His name, amongst various cultural associations in Pará, which he used to belong to, is linked to the management of the former Public Library and Archive of the State of Pará (BAP) and the Historical and Geographical Institute of Pará (IHGP), maintaining the preservationist aspect, not evidenced throughout his life story, exposed in books, newspaper notes, tributes, as well as in speeches of his colleagues. However, in the process of the listing of heritage assets of the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Pará (IPHAN/PA), throughout the 40’s and 60’s, his name is constantly present, a fact which motivated the incursion of the history of the preservation of heritage in Pará through his presence. The aim of his study is to understand the practices and set of actions taken by Ernesto Cruz towards heritagization, during the initial decades of IPHAN’s operation in Brazil, devising a historical study of heritage preservation policy in the State of Pará. Consequently, the uniqueness of this study is to present the preservationist dimension of Ernesto Cruz, an aspect not yet explored in the field of Amazonian historiography or in architecture. From his role as delegate of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Service, Ernesto Cruz became a key figure in the process of institutionalizing historical heritage in the state of Pará. The investigation is based on 20th century sources, such as the historian’s intellectual output, which includes books, newspapers articles and documents found in the IPHAN’s listings process, as well as sources that are linked to themes that emerged from his material such as the transformation of the city of Belém, its architecture and history.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A estrada para o “progresso”: política, cultura e natureza em Bragança, Pará (1970-1996)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-06-12) OLIVEIRA, Marcus Vinicius Cunha; HENRIQUE, Márcio Couto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1963995260174868This paper studies the construction of Bragança-Ajuruteua road, PA-458, Para, Brazil, in the period of 1970-1996. The highway, which covered 26 km of mangrove, caused changes to the environment and consequently the lives of several individuals who live from the natural resources of this ecosystem. The study aims to understand the permanence and the changes caused by the highway in the relationship man / nature, and the many interpretations of the men on this space, through the analysis of political speeches, news reports, photographs, local literature, ethnography, and oral reports of the people who works with crabs, these people are deeply involved with the mangrove. From this, it was found that the development thought by the political authorities and the local elite, with the tourist operation of Ajuruteua Beach, was designed with a nature vision separated from culture, a utilitarian and contemplative nature that neglected local communities and the preservation conditions of the ecosystem. However, even before that, people whose lives were impacted by the project, "created" strategies to adapt to new realities, and they used the road in favor of their daily life.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) “País selvagem”: os Mebêngôkre-Irã Amrayré e a fronteira Araguaia na segunda metade do século XIX(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-10-14) SENA, Laécio Rocha de; HENRIQUE, Márcio Couto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9096024504515280This thesis analyzes the relationship of the Irã amrayré (Mebêngôkre-Kayapó group) with the different agents of the indigenist policy of the second half of the 19th century, in the province of Goiás, which had as its objective the occupation and colonization of the valleys of the Araguaia and Tocantins rivers, with a view to occupying its banks and building a trade route connecting the north of the province to Belém, in Pará, above all through the Araguaia River. Based on the analysis of official documentation, travellers' reports, myths and Irã amrayré narratives, and in dialogue with the contemporary ethnography of the Mebêngôkre, I defend the thesis that the Irã amrayré were important historical agents in the construction of the Araguaia frontier, in the second half of the XIX century. This process, in turn, was experienced by them according to their culture, their historical experiences and their own interests. On the other hand, I also emphasize that the contact with the other (the kubẽ) brought about transformations among the Irã amrayré.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O poder simbólico das “bugigangas”: índios e regatões na província do Pará (Século XIX)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-06-28) MORAIS, Laura Trindade de; HENRIQUE, Márcio Couto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9096024504515280This research seeks to understand how was established the exchange activity between regatões (Amazon river traders) and the Indians of the province of Pará, during the second half of the nineteenth century. I analyze these relationships at a time when the imperial government sought many ways to get control over the indigenous, so the relationship between them and the traders settled amid disputes of interests, which largely contributed to put regatões as the ones who deceive the Indians and these Indians, therefore, the deceived ones. Through it all, this study seeks to understand the dynamics of exchanges between indigenous and regatões, their interests, conflicts and alliances.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) “Vergonhosas Saturnais”: a experiência prostibular em Belém do Pará (1900-1945)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-12-14) AMADOR, Luiza Helena Miranda; HENRIQUE, Márcio Couto; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9096024504515280In this thesis I analyze the medical, hygienist, legal and police discourses on prostitution in Belém from 1900 to 1945, and how the prostitutes were protagonists and active in the face of these control mechanisms. The prostitutes who circulated in the republican and modern Belém lived in a socio-economic and culturally diverse space, a city of codes, rules and symbols influenced by the Belle Époque, a period in which prostitution gained greater visibility, previously reclusive to private care, the prostitute began to expose herself in the streets, boulevards and cafes. From the discourses on prostitution, I present the cultural changes and the implementation of new codes and rules of behavior. The arrival of foreign and national women in the Amazon. Discussions and narratives about the "white traffic" and the crusade against caftism. Through the crimes of pimping that the owners of pensions and brothels responded, I expose how the brothel world was profitable and contributed to the city's economy. How they acted doctors, hygienists and public authorities in an attempt to implement hygienic and disciplinary measures in the homes of prostitutes. I present the cases of infanticide and abortions committed by prostitutes and how they were judged and their acts displayed to society. an unwanted pregnancy. I discuss the institutionalization of medicine in Belém and what are the medical thoughts about the female body. I describe the arrival of the services of Prophylaxis of Venereal Diseases within the context of sanitarianism. The concern of doctors with the prostitutes defined as the main responsible for the “venereal disease.” Measures to regulate prostitution and initiatives to control to oar and to fix the women in a determined place to only exercise the prostitution there. I approach the moral discourses and how the prostitutes were not intimidated by this resource that tried to stop the sale of sex and their freedom to come and go in the city. I point out that the presence of alcohol and drunkenness was used by the judicial apparatus to incarcerate and control prostitutes. Finally, I tell a little about the affective life of the prostitutes, their loves, passions and the violence they suffered, for not fulfilling the desired model/standard of a woman.
