In addition to the film, elements such as infrastructure and advertising plays a major role in order to create an atmosphere of seduction and involvement with the images displayed. The track of the cinema, among other ways, is linked to the viewer, the physical space of projection rooms and the sociability it worked out. This essay discusses the cinema in the city of Belém (Pará) in the 1920s. To investigate how much the cinema interacted with the urban scene that period. Likewise, we discuss elements of the infrastructure of the rooms such as accommodation, ventilation, and music. We sought to demonstrate that the act of watching a movie in the state capital of those years was just a part of the "ritual" of frequenting the cinema, hence the concern to understand the forms of sociability processed within those rooms. Besides, it is an analysis of the cinema acting as a mediator of social representations of gender and childhood.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Civilizar a nação pela instrução pública: formação de professores e ensino primário no Pará (1891-1909)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-08-07) COSTA, Edivando da Silva; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957This paper discusses teacher training for primary education in Pará, during the early years of the republican regime. In 1877, a drought began in Ceará that lasted until 1879. At the end of the 1880s, the phenomenon once again visited Ceará, leaving its visible marks, mainly in 1888 and 1889. great was the displacement of men and women from Ceará to other Brazilian provinces, including the neighboring one, Piauí, which to a certain extent was already affected by drought in the form of a climatic phenomenon, starting to experience it as a social product. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the migration of people from Ceará to Piauí, between the years 1877 and 1891, considering these displacements an act of protagonism by men and women, poor and rich, who undertook the migratory journeys as a possibility of overcoming the difficulties imposed by the dry in its place of origin, choosing Piauí as route and also destination. As a basis for the time frame, the year in which the flow of people from Ceará became more intense towards the neighboring province, until the beginning of the 1890s, when welfare practices were still carried out through public assistance, and it was already possible to find people from Ceará constituting new families in Piauí. Among the sources defined for carrying out the research, there are the different newspapers published in Piauí and Ceará, as well as reports, messages, speeches, minutes, as well as letters and other documents from the Public Aid Commission. Thus, this thesis investigates the fact that, in addition to the migratory flows that occurred in the 19th century, already known in historiography, there were other migrant destinations undertaken by people from Ceará, including Piauí, which was also affected by droughts, seen as a receiving pole, either for those who were destined for that region, as it offered better conditions for survival than Ceará, or for those who were trying to cross to Maranhão and Pará. Because it was intense at many times, migration brought to Piauí the worsening of the consequences of the drought, requiring measures to combat its effects by the local government, which established the Public Aid Commissions, promoting welfare and moving part of the migrants to the fronts of work, either in public works or in Colonial Nuclei. Upon arriving in Piauí, migrants almost always found it difficult to survive, however, many managed to settle in that region and did not return to Ceará after the end of the drought. In this way, the thesis of the importance of Piauí in the migratory contexts of the 19th century is defended, as a receiving space for migrants from Ceará and a generator of multiple social experiences.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A imprensa ilustrada: uma análise das representações fotográficas em Belém (1910-1920)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-04-25) GOMES, Rodrigo Neves; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957The research aims to analyze photographs published in newspapers and other printed matter such as albums and magazines that circulated through the city of Belém-PA, in the first decades of the twentieth century. The main newspapers of the period, such as Estado do Pará, Província do Pará and Folha do Norte, started to bring portraits of people and the urban space that accompanied the articles, helping in the understanding and in the idea of credibility of the news transmitted. Many of these photos showed aspects of the city that were different from the way the capital of Pará was represented in the heyday of latex exports. Thus, the images published in the periodicals highlight other angles of the city. Therefore, the dissertation discusses how the representations of some urban aspects of Belém and its residents recorded through photographs, help us to understand the economic, political and social context in which these productions were published, during the so-called rubber crisis.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Por uma história do livro e da leitura no Pará: o caso da Guajarina, editora de folhetos de cordel (1922-1949)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-03-14) MENEZES NETO, Geraldo Magella de; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7645105260749396; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957This dissertation analyzes the role played by the publishing house Guajarina in the dissemination of a kind of popular literature known as “cordel”, in the state of Pará, Brazil, between 1922 and 1949, from the viewpoint of a history of books and reading. By exploring the representations constructed about women within the context of the feminist movement's development in Europe and the United States, I establish a relationship between these representations and the daily lives of working women in Belém, who, in various ways, participated or sought to participate in the labor market. Considering the periodical press as a significant instrument for reproducing and disseminating these representations, I selected newspapers as my primary sources. These publications provided the most prevalent representations of women, albeit through fragmentary and scattered traces of the lives of women in the capital of Pará during this period. While newspapers were my main source, I also utilized other materials, such as Government Reports, as valuable tools for mapping different areas of the city. This approach allowed me to identify a female population engaged in various sectors of urban labor who, despite being subjected to rigid norms dictating female submission to male authority, devised ways to transcend these constraints. Through protests or gradual, silent actions, these women sought solutions and demanded rights that were socially and politically denied to them.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A semente da colonização: um estudo sobre a Colônia Agrícola Benevides (Pará, 1870-1889)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2008) NUNES, Francivaldo Alves; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957This dissertation focuses on the agricultural colonization in the State of Pará (Brazil) in the last decades of the nineteenth-century, taking as reference the locality of Benevides. It examines not only the interests concerned in the ways of occupation, the principles which presided over the selection of the colonial areas, the types of planting, size and distribution of the land, but also the way the settlers understood these processes. Thus, we assume that the occupation of these colonies reflected the relationship between the laws and official measures designed to manage them, and the way of life adopted by the settlers themselves.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Terras, rios e igarapés: estrutura agrária e conflitos no Baixo Tocantins (1860-1880)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2014-02-28) SOUZA, Bruno Mariano Santos da Ponte; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957This thesis pretends a study of the landscape of the Lower Tocantins, or Tocantina region. Natural aspects, the image of the region and its population are current issues in the beginning of this work. Land uses, productivity and the meanings of the earth are elements that allow us to think Tocantina region within a dynamic local and international trade. The way of life of the region Tocantina society is expressed through his actions and extractive activities in rural areas. In this sense we perceive different discourses on the most appropriate form of development in the province of Pará and the clashes between modernization policy and way of living location. The use of legal action in defense of property to mediate land conflicts reveals the numerous intentions and the game forces to ensure mastery of the earth.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Visto, logo existo: moda, sociabilidade feminina e consumo em Belém no limiar do Século XX(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2010-07-12) MARTINS JÚNIOR, Rui Jorge Moraes; LACERDA, Franciane Gama; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1007392320101957The dissertation discusses the women's clothing in Belém in the first two decades of the twentieth century, trying to understand the multiple meanings given to women's clothing by women themselves and by the chroniclers of magazines and newspapers that circulated in the major city of Pará as A Semana, Belém Nova, A Tarde, A Palavra, Folha do Norte among others. In this regard, the discussions turn to the relationship between the consumption of fashion elements and the advance of modernity in Belém, with the backdrop of the profound transformations undergone by the urban city in the early decades of the twentieth century, marked by the crisis in the later business of rubber. They reveal themselves so the quest for change in some of these women constructed from cutting the hair, the length of skirts, the construction of a new look, and concerns play spaces beyond the ambience of the private. Thus, sociality built by many elite women, suggests a questioning of its social role in that fashion, sometimes functioned as non-verbal speech.
