This dissertation investigates how the government wanted to discipline the residents of the state capital in the use of animals and results of this, focusing the analysis on three types of bans: mistreating pack animals, letting livestock animals of any kind loose on the streets and squares, and owning dogs without the municipal license. To this end, we investigated sources as “Códigos de Posturas”, “Relatórios dos Intendentes Municipais”, newspapers, literature and images. I analyzed this documentation using concepts such as nature and civilization, in the perspective of the environmental history.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Farinha de "pau" e de "guerra": os usos da farinha de mandioca no extremo Norte (1722-1759)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011) CRUZ, Roberto Borges da; MOURÃO, Leila; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5665064793338456This dissertation analyzes the uses of cassava flour in the State of Maranhão and Grão-Pará in period 1722-1759, highlighting the flour as the staple food of indigenous peoples, full of cultural and symbolic aspects. Historical processes and their implementation were delineated, emphasizing their social and environmental dimensions. The research document base was formed by the development plans, reports, government acts and statements, magazines and newspapers, legislations, cartographic images, besides the literature related to the theme. The analyses were based on the theoretical and methodological principles of Environmental History. The evidences produced revealed that water, soil, forests and subsoil acquired new meanings in statements and actions envisaged in state planning. This process reflected a conception of Amazon nature as a source of natural resources for maintenance and expansion of the adopted development model that did not take into consideration the region historical dimension. It was observed during the interpretation of a theoretical and methodological matrix in the wording of the plans that indicate continuity among them. The measures of environmental content, incorporated in the elaboration of the plans in the 1970s, resulted from pressures from multilateral financial institutions, to guarantee financial resources to ongoing projects. At the same time, some initiatives formed in defense of the Amazon by: intellectuals, social movements, religious institutions, peasants, rubber tappers and Indigenous people with distinctive interests, relocated the discussion on nature. The understanding of the historical dimension that guided the conceptions of nature in the various analyzed processes enable the emergence of a more diverse and richer social history of the Amazon.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Terra e natureza: assentamentos rurais de Rio Maria (1974-2004)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-12-19) PEREIRA, Luzia Canuto de Oliveira; MOURÃO, Leila; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5665064793338456The subject of this dissertation are the Assentment Projects Expedito Ribeiro and Vale da Serra, localized in the city of Rio Maria, southest of Pará, establisheds by Instituto Nacional de Colonização e Reforma Agrária (INCRA) some decades after the begin of migratory proccess to this region, proccess marked by unequal occupation of lands that brought in itself the fight and the challenge by the land between invasors and farmers and/or businessmen. So, made a time recort (1974-2004), because of this way there is the possibility of to walk by the occupation history, the fight by the land and by the life, and the way of familiar production established in these Assentment Projects before and after the insertion of public investiments in this area, and the relation that the familiar productors established with the nature during these decades.
