This article presents the results of an ethnographic study (based on the perspective of observant participation) performed by the religion known as Uniao do Vegetal (UDV), with the locus of the Metropolitan Region of Belém (PA). A religion native to the Amazon, the UDV is ranked as one of the three main lines of Religions of Ayahuasca, which, among other similarities, have in common the use of entheogenic tea decoction derived from two species: the Banisteriopsis caapi (mariri) and leaf Psychotria viridis (chacrona). Introducing methodological approach to issues relating to use of oral language as the only way of transmission of teachings, as well as aspects and memory settings for this group, the study investigated how these categories and their interrelationship contributes to shaping the worldview this group – as a way of contributing to the framework of research on religions and religious practices in the Amazon.

Entre o "Zaca” e o "Madre”: ofensas raciais, processos identitários e discursos de mestiçagem em duas escolas de Belém
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011) RIBEIRO, Alan Augusto Moraes; CAMPELO, Marilu Marcia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8338592541775616
This dissertation is an ethnography of everyday school life, conceptually driven from the markers of differentiation color/race, gender, social class and sexual orientation. The motivation of the research which started production of this thesis was the following question: offensive verbal processes are identity processes that are built from referrals and educational discourses teachers in each school? Based on a research trajectory that began in 2006, initially performed in school Alexander Zacharias de Assumpção College and later extended to Madre Zarife Sales in the neighborhood of Guamá, outskirts of Belém do Pará, I try to discuss the scope of these educational institutions in the daily living out of them by their students, to identify practical dynamics of the urban life of the city from the walking to and from school. Both schools are defined as reference schools in the district as symbolized, to clients of the students they met, the possibility of post-school career success among many families in the neighborhood. Moreover, I show the internal contradictions in the two schools, to suggest the occurrence of differential access to educational services and cultural capital to own teaching as the turn is studied. Discuss clearly the occurrence of exchanges of verbal insults and non-racial race among students as markers of differentiation indicated, to try to answer the questioning of the research. Then try to identify the various modalities symbolic of discourse of mestizaje as a comprehensive discourse that is designed by me as the reverse side of the racial and verbal offenses of non-recognition of racism in them by existing institutional body, this is, by faculty, staff and managers.

Ananse, the metamorphosis in spider of Goddess Aranã, coming from fanthi-ashanti culture, of Benin Region, in East Africa, is shown, in this paper, as the symbol metaphor of the resistance actions carried out by the Africans and their descendents in the American continent, particularly in Brazil. This way, it presents an ethnographic report of the saga of Goddess Aranã’s heirs in their fight against racism. The structure of that narrative is alike to a Theater Auto in which the antagonist character is the Racism, and the protagonist is Ananse’s heirs. The composition of that narrative starts with the assumption that the several cultures brought by the protagonist had a crucial importance in encouraging the African and their heirs’ fight, face to the wit of an antagonist capable of wearing, in time and space, many persons (masks) to confuse and weaken the protagonist speeches. However, the protagonist is also very smart in weaving his webs. Upon elaborating that narrative, the webs created by that character are recovered in order to insert, in the official Brazilian agenda the recognition of the existence of racism and racial discrimination in the society, and the state affirmative action policies, mainly, the use of the quota system to Negroes at the University. The fight is a narrative with epic characteristics which favors the role of string/action Negro movement.

Memória emblemática: o que os tradicionais nos contam sobre seu passado?
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-08-09) ÁLVARO, Maria Ângela Gemaque; CAMPELO, Marilu Marcia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8338592541775616
This work discusses the importance of family tradition on constructing social representations that are incorporated into a classification system used in a given context. Memory of two family groups considered to be traditional in the city of Belém are analyzed, these groups being so considered in virtue of an exceptional historic trajectory. The central conducting element in such a discussion is social memory, with emphasis on the way it is considered in the studies by Maurice Halbwachs. Upon the exam of oral and written narratives, the study goes on incorporating the themes of tradition, family and history, and developing two main points: 1) How the adjective traditional is constructed and attributed to some families? This question is approached by using the concept of “invented tradition”, and by relating the mnemonic construction of such groups to processes of consecration of family names, and to status authentication. 2) How the involving society has been convinced to accept that image? Emphasis is given on the ideological aspects of kinship and history.
