Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Agentes da ordem e da desordem: polícia, política e sociedade no Pará de 1879 a 1904(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-01-05) VILHENA, Anderson Alexandre Cruz; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388During the early years of the republican regime the military went through a process of institutional restructuring and consolidation of a building movement for an alleged "military class". In this movement is possible to see the making of Pará law enforcers since the Empire as a tacitly defined project in line with the ideas of civility and modernity at the time. These work seeks to understand the police beyond the result of a high officialdom national effort to impose this agenda to a local force subordinate to the Army, but as a result of a historical process in which the Pará military themselves were actors and agents. It is precisely in order to understand the process of making of the republican police force that this research analyzes the security organization in Pará, as well the subjects who embodied this project, and how they are interacting with Pará society in the late XIX century to the XX. Understanding the early decades of the Republic and the uprisings, disciplinary problems and reforms of Pará military during this period as doings of resistance that demonstrate awareness of his own agency; I consider that yet included in a military build process and monopolization of force, the Pará police must be seen as active participant in the creation of an organized, well-structured and effective military force.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Castanheiros, agricultores e índios: conflitos pelos usos da terra em castanhais do médio Tocantins (1948-1980)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009) CARNEIRO, Aldair José Dias; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388This paper pays attention for the symbolisms that the grows of chestnut trees from the Medium Tocantins acquired during more than a half century of occupation since, at least, 1892, mainly on the limits from the towns of Marabá and Itupiranga/Pará. For someones, the groves of chestnut trees lands were only sources of income, important way to profit. Those were the motives because the land and the forest products were succesfully appropriated, mainly by ranchers, sellers of chest nuts and municipal representatives. Fore others they constituted inerent spaces for life and which natural environment revelated an essence of a cultural production as the case of the familiar farmers tradicionally installed on little villages and isolated localities. Those adequated traditions on the occupied spaces and developed small agricultures taking as a base forest products as a complement for their subsistences. Embased by written resources and analyzing the memory about the grows of chestnut trees from the medium Tocantins detached the period between 1948 and 1980, with the purpose to visualize the causes and consequences from this antagonism of ideas and points of view relating them with the ways of dealing with the soil and the resources got available by them.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Futebol, ditadura e trabalho: uma análise das relações políticas e sociais no campo desportivo paraense (1964 – 1978)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009) MONTEIRO, Sinei Soares; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388This dissertation will discuss the relevance of soccer in Brazilian society, especially in the state of Pará in the 20th century, more precisely in the context of a military dictatorship that reigned in Brazil back then (1964-1978). The chronological cut is delimited by the publication, in 1890, of the book The influence of sea power upon history 1660-1783, by the american admiral Alfred Mahan, having notorious impact on the ways of thinking the navies around the world, since proposed the thesis that the control of the sea was the essential element to the development of the nations, and by the end of the First World War, in 1918, which I consider a mark because the real test of all modernization projects in course in Brazil and countries such as United States, England, France, Germany, Russia and Japan and, then, the posterior period to that probably represented a technical change in the ways of modernization of the sea forces. Whereas the hypothesis that the modernization project thought by Mahan to the naval programs of 1904 to 1906 represented the built of an art of war at the seas different from all past times, and rating it‘s consequences at Amazon, I concluded that, in parallel, it was built an art of war at the rivers, of which followed the logic itself of the hydrographic meanders. To defend such argument, the dissertation is structured in three chapters: the first analyses the process and the practices of naval modernization in international and national levels, and in the second case, mainly represented by the fleet in Rio de Janeiro; the second analyses the security in Amazon and the consequent building of an art of war in the rivers and the third, the military daily consequences at the region through the work abilities, the social relations inside the armed force and the body and its nexus with the health.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A política faroleira na costa Norte-Atlântica do Brasil: sinalização, segurança e vigilância a partir dos faróis de Salinas e Bragança - Pará (1852-1890)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-02-29) LIMA, Matheus Gomes de; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388This project aims to understand lighthouse policy on the Brazilian North-Atlantic Coast, based on the creation of the old lighthouse in Salinas, PA, and the Bragança lighthouse, analyzing the performance of lighthouses and, in a broader sense, the Navy during the decades from 1850 to 1880. The period is demarcated by issues that directly affected Brazilian navigation and society, such as the Eusébio de Queirós Law of 1850 and the opening of the Amazon River to foreign vessels in 1866. The research will seek to answer questions raised regarding surveillance on the North Atlantic Coast, in Grão-Pará, where the naval force played a fundamental role against the trafficking of Africans and unauthorized foreign entry, in addition to guaranteeing the safety of navigation. Therefore, the role of lighthouses in the Empire was extremely important, as it represented the Navy's vigilant eyes on the Atlantic coast and compliance with the measures taken by the Empire in relation to England's international anti-slavery pressure. In addition to the issue of trafficking, I will work on opening rivers in the Amazon to vessels from friendly nations, sizing up the lighthouse policy and the individuals who depended on signaling and the waters to survive. To understand how this mechanism worked, I will identify who were the subjects involved with lighthouses, signaling, and surveillance of the coast of Pará until the end of the 1880s, when slavery had been abolished and the impacts of steam navigation had already reached great expression in the movement of merchant and military ships in the region. The research in question will be based on two historiographical lines, respectively: trafficking and slavery in Brazil in the 19th century and military history.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O que revelar? o que esconder? imprensa & maçonaria no findar do dezenove (Pará, 1872-1892)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011) SANTOS, Alan Christian de Souza; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388The performance masonic in the press of Para in the nineteenth century is seen in this dissertation from the counterpoint between the reveal and hide. Stand out, above all, two distinct moments of the same transaction. At first, the masonry abandons his reserved attitude and decides to create an official newspaper (O Pelicano) for to do a front in the dictates ultramontanos (A Boa Nova). And, in the second, it returns to your initial condition to suspend the circulation of publication, but without necessarily go out from the journalistic media. So that secret and publicity were intermingled in the "voices" of the institution representatives. The research allowed the nominal identification of a extensive group of masons and brought off to demonstrate a few tensions and conflicts that sometimes closed up them like a "brothers" and sometimes definitely put them on opposite sides of the press, in stores, on life. Taking into account the social changes (Abolition) and political (Republic) that occurred along the temporality accosted, this study also discusses the way in which the discourses, practices and representations of Pará masons were articulated with the transformations that simultaneously to get at the province of Para and imperial society.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A república paraense em festa (1890-1911)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2008) MOURA, Daniella de Almeida; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388This paper is intended to discuss the establishment of a symbolic power by the Republic in the state of Pará in its early years (1890-1911), focusing events such as change of some street names to honor new administration members and the creation of a new calendar to mark Republican special dates like November 15th, when the Republic was nationally proclaimed and November 16th, when it was acclaimed in Pará. The main purpose here is to study the meaning of those changes, the organization and, above all, to understand how they were used to strengthen the new regime at the heart of local society. The present study examines not only those commemorative dates, but also the frequent political gatherings, called banquets, held by elite citizens. This research was judged worth taking, because it allows a new approach to discuss the ideas, characters, speeches, plots, and alliances performed in this decisive political period of local and national history.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A sociedade propagadora do ensino: o Lyceu de Artes e Ofícios Benjamin Constant e o Orphelinato Paraense (1891-1900)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-06-24) CARDOSO, Lucas Ayres; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388The objective of this research was to understand the role of the Sociedade Propagadora de Ensino, in the performance of schools; Lyceu de Artes e Ofícios Benjamin Constant and Orphelinato Paraense in the period from 1891 to 1900, where I investigated this activity of the Sociedade Propagadora de Ensino, created to develop a curriculum to improve public education and its training, where the same one that created the Lyceu of Arts and Crafts Benjamin Constant, an institution dedicated to training young workers in the Province of Pará. This association called Sociedade Propagadora de Ensino was founded by Lauro Nina Sodré, governor of the Province of Pará, an officer in the Brazilian Army, graduated in Military Engineering and Bachelor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences from the Military School of Praia Vermelha in Rio de Janeiro, in the final years of the Monarchy. Therefore, the Sociedade Propagadora de Ensino (SPE) implemented a training system through a curriculum, whose focus was the creation of a qualified workforce to eradicate illiteracy that persisted even with the advent of the Republic, and therefore, the objective of the SPE, was to implement a program that would supply and minimize the most humble and poor, and that would train these workers to be inserted in factories in the province of Pará. In this sense, the thesis seeks to understand the relevance of the types of training directed to these schools, analyzing the curricula, profiles and performance of teachers and students among other important issues for understanding the actions and proposals directed by the SPE. In order to answer these questions, the prosopographic method was used, based on the analysis and cross-referencing of information obtained from the researched documentation, such as, for example, rare works and periodicals from the collections of the Tancredo Neves Foundation, and of legislation, curricula and other documents from the collection of the Public Archive of the State of Pará, and rare works from the Central Library of the Federal University of Pará.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Testemunhos escritos da amazônia: a gestão de acervos do poder judiciário no pará (1991-2021)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-09-22) CATUNDA, Eronice Visgueira Sampaio; FARIAS, William Gaia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2553754490715388The research of this thesis aimed at analyzing the process of management, organization and processing of the Court of Justice of Pará (TJPA) taking in account the covenants between public institutions and the literary society as strategy to assure preservation of the collection and democratization of access to the society in general, using the year 1991-2021 as a time cutout where it begins with the ordeal of the Archives Act. The central point of this research was to demonstrate the importance of the TJPA historical documents under custody of the Federal University of Pará considering three pillars: teaching, research and extension. In this way, some actions and their lines of action, extents and concerns are emphasized. The implications of an adequate document management may enhance a democratic construction out of preservation of judiciary collection that, more than inform, bring in their registers ways of life, cultures, economics, politics and society, and create necessary discussions that reveal themselves in the present and are updated as historical resources to the teaching, research and extension. Therefore, it is possible to notice that this range of possibilities is being developed by students, technical staff and teachers of different teaching institutions, demonstrating the strengthening link between the document collections, teaching, research and extension.
