When talking about the dictatorship of 1964-1985, one goes back to a sensitive past, laden with memories and traumas that persist in power struggles, installed in the democratic process in Brazil since Law nº 314/1967 on National Security, passing through Law 6,683/1979 from Amnesty to the current historic buildings. Understanding and knowing the speeches and characters whose past lived is a study developed by researchers of the history of the present time, as well as problematizing the memory that permeates through subjective and also physical fields - the museums - places of memories brought by Nora (1988). Those spaces whose purpose is to remember, however, when they create a gap of forgetfulness, it becomes paradoxical, making it necessary to provoke historiographical constructions with regard to the dictatorial period. In this way, the methodology with bibliographical analysis was used in articles, books and productions, which cited the 5th Company of Guards as a place of prison, today Museum of Contemporary, Modern Art and photos, or House of Eleven Windows, located in the neighborhood of Cidade Old woman in Belém–PA. Museum that makes up one of the formative spaces of Happy Lusitânia, the set of heritage revitalized and resignified within the project that aims to publicize the first contacts of the European colonizer and the natives. House of Eleven Windows, in its chronological functions, served as the home of Domingos Bacelar, then as a Military Hospital and a space for the collection of testimonies and incarcerations of subversives in the 20th century, the 5th Company of Guards and finally the Museum. However, the point of discussion of this research is that in its current curatorial proposal, its repressive past is not disclosed, leaving the visitor out of tune with the real history contained in general, since not even all passivity passed on actually occurred in this space. Therefore, gathering in this research a historiographical base of names identified as subversive, in their actions within the resistance and that were sent to provide clarifications in the 5th Company of Guards, is the objective of this research, with the intention of provoking the sensitive memory in opposition to the speeches implanted by the silence and oblivion built in the building.

This research aims to analyze the process of filmic writing of part of the urban daily life of the 20th century (1940-1995) in the city of Castanhal (Pará) through two documentaries produced by the paraense filmmaker Edivaldo Moura, which are O Cinema de Seu Duca (2016), that addresses the multicultural trajectory of Cine Argus during its nearly six decades of operation in the city; and A Última Maria (2021), that focuses on some of the structural elements of the Bragança railway (EFB) in the daily life of the inhabitants of Castanhal, safeguarding the Castanhal locomotive and the railway station as protagonists. Both films are structured in similar ways by inviting residents of the city to share their past personal experiences with the main elements that the films envision – the Cine Argus and the Castanhal Locomotive. Film analysis (internal reading) was utilized in conjunction with documents sources to assert the films not as mirrors that represent a past already given by a passive social externality, but rather as producers of a historical movement proper to the Castanhal period addressed and, mainly, to its present producer. As a result, the films were understood as creators of a temporal intelligibility that anchors the present-past by formulating their own specific writings of part of the urban transformation of Castanhal, having the cinema and the locomotive, along with the social experiences developed in these spaces, as supplanted symbols – and at the same time resistant – of the policy of urban-commercial remodeling of Castanhal initiated vigorously from the second half of the 20th century in the city.

This dissertation discusses aspects of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) in Pará and its trajectory. Additionally, it analyzes the actions of different union segments through documentary research in periodicals such as Resistência, as well as institutional documentation from the CUT itself and accounts from unionists which were involved during its state-building process. The moment when the CUT was founded was characterized as one of the driving forces behind its formation, given the political “ardent” that emerged at the time, along with the formulation of new ideas, such as the advent of the new unionism, which was equally unique in this context. The period studied has been targeted from the late 1970s, through the 1980s until the 1990s. Thus, the dissertation has looked for analyzing the action, performance, and strategies from different political union which existed before and after the foundation of the CUT, giving emphasis on the clashes of it in the central.

In the Amazon, in the rural area of the Pará, territories are appropriated for the interests of big capital without identification with the surroundings in which they are established, configuring the growth of territorial insecurity due to large enterprises, culminating in enclosures, the core of the expropriation of traditional communities, making explicit challenges to the institutionalization of ethnic recognition contemplated in normative instruments and, contributing to the permanence of the historical process of invisibilization of populations that claim territorial rights. In this work, using oral memory as the main element of the methodology, the aim is to seek, present and endorse the daily struggles, fields of action, resistance and experiences as well as the political struggle that currently self-identified quilombola and indigenous families experience when narrate the usurpation of their territories and the conflict situations triggered by the oil palm farming activities of the company Agropalma S. A., in the Vale do Alto Rio Acará, in the municipality of Acará/PA. Historical evidence and narratives built around ethnic belonging indicate the constitution of specific territorialities, indicators of a collective existence. Oral records use memory to detail facts that imprint material and symbolic forms on the territory, tracing a close relationship between memory, territory and identity, since strong images of places are recorded in these. Even though they present themselves in the present, all these questions are deeply historical and aim to contribute to the studies of regional historiography, in particular, studies on original peoples in the state of Pará.

The aim of this master's thesis was to analyze the ongoing struggle for the agrarian reform in southeastern Pará, using the newspaper O Grito da PA 150: Terra e Liberdade as its main source. The alternative newspaper was published by the Diocese of Marabá (PA) between 1980 and 1987, and was one of the main voices in this period of information, mobilization and political training for rural workers. Because of its content in favor of agrarian reform during the transition process from the military dictatorship (1964-1985) to the country's New Republic, O Grito da PA 150 ended up arousing the hatred and persecution of farmers, jagunços, civil and military authorities who were active in the region. However, this didn't stop the alternative newspaper from continuing to publicize the conflicts and mobilize the peasants in campaigns for agrarian reform, in the Assembly of the People of God, Neighbourhood Associations, Basic Ecclesial Communities (CEBs), Trade Union Oppositions and in the parties opposing the dictatorship. In addition to analyzing the O Grito da PA 150 and the specialized bibliography on the subject, other sources of interest for the development of the research were inserted, such as hemerographic sources (newspapers and magazines), documentation produced by the National Information Service (SNI), judicial documents, bulletins, booklets, minutes of meetings, letters and oral reports.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-02-08) RIBEIRO, Marcos Alexandre Araújo; PETIT, Pere; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8376409779394321; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8970-3073
This work presents a debate on the History and Memory of the Movement for the Liberation of Araguaia-MLPA prisoners, when in 1981, two French priests and thirteen squatters were arrested in the town of São Geraldo do Araguaia, which was part of the municipality of Xinguara in the State of Pará. With this arrest and subsequent transfer to the capital Belém; religious, lay people, student movement, activists of left-wing political parties such as PT and PC do B, as well as youth pastoral groups, members of various social movement groups. At this juncture, a vigorous solidarity network is established with national and international connections, which carry out various activities in Belém and the Araguaia Pará region, with the aim of demanding that the Brazilian military government release the so-called Prisoners of Araguaia. I also affirm that during the development of the movement, what I call a Collective Identity of the MLPA was created among some of its militants, a condition clearly noticeable in the reports collected through the Oral History method, and made available in fragments of the thesis writing, as in the Video-Memory: MLPA - 40 years of History, which I present here as an important source of research, as well as teaching about the History of the Present Time in the Amazon.

Paulo Maranhão x Magalhães Barata: censuras, intervenções e políticas no Pará durante a Era Vargas (1930-1945)
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2024-02-28) LIMA, Marcos Bezerra; PETIT, Pere; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8376409779394321; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8970-3073
This dissertation aims to analyze the political clash between journalist Paulo Maranhão (1872-1966) and military officer Magalhães Barata (1888-1959) between 1930 and 1945, the period known as the Vargas Era. The main objective was to analyze the various mechanisms used by the two individuals to obtain, recover and maintain power in various areas of Pará society. Paulo Maranhão used the tools of journalism to attack Magalhães Barata, who had twice served as Pará’s federal interventor. In turn, Magalhães Barata relied on the state apparatus to defend himself and attack one of his main opponents, contributing to a dynamic of political disputes between the two that lasted almost 30 years. The research was divided into three phases: the initial phase referring to Magalhães Barata’s first stint in power (1930-1935); the second phase referring to the period in which the military politician was away from Pará (1936-1942); and finally, the third phase directed at Magalhães Barata’s return for his second term (1943-1945). Using contributions linked to the New Political History and its reformulations of various objects of analysis, including the media, I found that Paulo Maranhão used the newspaper Northern Leaf for his political agendas and disagreements, including the one against Magalhães Barata. In this way, the political nature of printed media and their power to intervene in the social dynamics of the period became a reality. As a result of the means used by both, it was possible to see episodes of violence, censorship, journalistic articles aimed at political attacks, among many other events, presented and analyzed during the three chapters of this dissertation. Based on a qualitative analysis of the sources, it was possible to work with some documentary poles for the construction of the research. I checked the documents in the Public Archives of the State of Pará (APEP), which refer to the relationships played out by members of the public authorities, be it Magalhães Barata himself or state departments. Another important collection of documents is in the Arthur Vianna Public Library, referring to the periodicals in the proposed section, such as of State of Pará and the Official State Diary, but mainly copies of the periodical Nothern Leaf, a newspaper run by Paulo Maranhão. Other sets of documents were used to a lesser extent, such as books published at the time which are in the rare works sector of the Arthur Vianna Public Library, newspapers available in the National Library’s Digital Hemeroteca, among other documents used during the work.
