Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Desempenho e características da carcaça e da carne de novilhos não-castrados alimentados com ou sem adição de monensina e/ou probiótico à dieta(2009-03-13) KUSS, Fernando; MOLETTA, José Luis; PAULA, Meiby Carneiro de; MOURA, Ivan César Furmann; ANDRADE, Stefano Juliano Tavares de; SILVA, André Guimarães Maciel eThe objective of this experiment was to evaluate the performance, carcass and meat characteristics of non-castrated cattle with or without monensin (M) and/or probiotic (P) (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) to the diet. The animals were divided into individual stalls, being left 145 days in feedlot. The roughage used was corn silage + 1.2% of the weight live of concentrate in natural matter basis. There was no effect of the addition of the addictives supplied isolated or associated over feed intake, weight gain and fed conversion. Feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion averages presented quadratic behavior with the increase of the period feedlot. Although the addition of M or P to the diet resulted in the numeric increase (P>.05) of the intake (4.2%) the average of weight gain reduced (5.8 and 5.3%, respectively), resulting in smaller fed conversion (P>.05). The association of M+P already increased (P>.05) the food intake to the order of 9.5% with concomitant increase (P>.05) of the weight gain (6,4%) when compared to diet control. The animals fed with M+P presented better carcass finish (5.5mm), followed by the control (4.7mm), and smaller values, it was verified in the carcasses of the animals that received M (3.7mm) and P (3.5mm). The addition of monensin and/or probiotic for feedlot steers did not improve the performance, carcass and meat quality.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Desempenho e características de carcaças de cordeiros suplementados com diferentes níveis de resíduo de biodiesel(2012-12) SOARES, Bruno Cabral; SOUZA, Karla Débora Santana de; LOURENÇO JÚNIOR, José de Brito; SILVA, André Guimarães Maciel e; ÁVILA, Sandra Cristina de; KUSS, Fernando; ANDRADE, Stefano Juliano Tavares de; RAIOL, Laura Cristina Barra; COLODO, Juliana Cristina NogueiraDiet supplementation with biodiesel residues of confined lambs, utilizing 25 sheep, without definite breed pattern (WDB), male, castrated, with average weight of 20kg was studied. The experimental design was random blocks, with 5 repetitions per treatment and a split plot scheme toward biometrics data. The experiment lasted 70 days. The diets were composed of 34% of roughage and 61% of concentrate, based on corn, soy, mineral and 5% of oil palm kernel or biodiesel residues, in increasing percentages – zero, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. The animals were slaughtered at the end of the experiment for carcass evaluation. Significant effects (P<0.05) of percentage inclusion of residues were observed for the performance and biometrics variables demonstrated in the crescent linear effect of the regression equations, as well as for the hot carcass weight (HCW) – with an average of 14; 15.92; 16.14; 16.42 and 18.02%; and the cold carcass weight (CCW) – with an average of 13.12; 14.78; 15.06; 15.70 and 17.25% for diets, respectively, containing 0, 25, 50, 75, 100% of palm kernel biodiesel residues. The palm kernel biodiesel residue utilization in feeding growing lambs is an alternative to increase the energetic density in their diets.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Nutrient intake and digestibility of the lipid residue of biodiesel from palm oil in sheep(2012-11) RAIOL, Laura Cristina Barra; KUSS, Fernando; SILVA, André Guimarães Maciel e; SOARES, Bruno Cabral; SOUZA, Karla Débora Santana de; COLODO, Juliana Cristina Nogueira; LOURENÇO JÚNIOR, José de Brito; ÁVILA, Sandra Cristina deThe objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of lipid residue of biodiesel originated in the processing of palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) in the diet on the digestibility of feedlot lambs. Twenty-five crossbred male castrated lambs, weighing 20±1.61 kg, were distributed in randomized blocks with five treatments and five replications. The experimental period lasted 22 days; 15 for diet adaptation, 2 for the adaptation to the indicator LIPE (lignin from Eucalyptus grandis isolated, purified and enriched, UFMG, Minas Gerais) and 5 for fecal sampling. Diets were formulated with 64% concentrate based on corn and soybean meal, 31% Massai grass (Panicum maximum cv. Massai) hay and 5% lipid supplementation from increasing levels of substitution of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of palm oil for biodiesel oil from palm residue. The lambs were offered two meals a day, at 7h00 and 16h00. There was linear effect of inclusion of the residue from palm oil biodiesel on dry matter intake. There was no change in digestibility of nutrients except for ether extract. The use of biodiesel from palm oil residue up to 100% replacement for the lipid supplementation of sheep positively influences the consumption without altering the digestibility of nutrients.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Vacas terminadas em campo nativo suplementadas com farelo de trigo ou farelo de arroz integral contendo ou não monensina sódica(2008-12) OSMARI, Milene Puntel; ARBOITTE, Miguelangelo Ziegler; BRONDANI, Ivan Luiz; KUSS, Fernando; ALVES FILHO, Dari Celstino; RESTLE, JoãoThe performance, physical composition, income of commercial cuts the quality of the meat of twenty eight cows Charolais, Nellore and its cross, were evaluated with initial average live weight of 409kg, finished in native grass with high participation of Eragrostis plana Nees., supplemented per 99 days with wheat bran or rice bran 0.5% of the alive weight in the DM with or without the inclusion of sódica monensina. The use of wheat bran provided a better conformation of the carcass (P<0.05), classifying it as "regulate +" (9.90 points). The others characteristic studied was not influenced (P>0.05) by the type of supplement. The inclusion of sodic monensin did not provide significant differences (P>0.05) in the variable studied.
