Adaptação do comportamento animal e mundos emergentes
(2001) DUBOIS, Michel Jean; LE PENDU, Yvonnick; GERARD, Jean François; SAMPAIO, Elineuza
We discuss the implications of the concept of adaptation, which is a key notion for the classical theory of evolution. Instead of persisting to consider the organisms as a collection of adapted traits, we propose to study evolution by means of a theoretical frame based on another ontology considering the organisms and the circumstances as totally integrated. The necessary preliminary stage for this reconsideration consists in passing from a prescriptive logic to a proscriptive logic, i.e., from the idea that everything that is not allowed is forbidden, to the idea that what is not forbidden is allowed. The consideration that the living systems specify the world in which they live can modify our way to face adaptive processes.

Determinação do ciclo estral em catetos Pecari tajacu: aspectos colpocitológicos e clínicos
(2011) GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo; GARCIA, Sylvia Cristina Garcia de; LE PENDU, Yvonnick; ALBUQUERQUE, Natália Inagaki de
The main objective of this work was to study the estrous cycle of collared peccary by vaginal cytology. Samples were collected in 10 adult females, three times a week, for six months. The estrous cycle period for this specie was 28.45 ± 5.45 days. We observed a significant difference (p<0.01) between the cell types in the same phase of the oestrous cycle. During the proestrus phase, the exfoliative cytology arrangement showed high frequency of intermediate and superficial cells. The estrus phase had elevated rates of superficial cells, when compared to the other types, and an absence of leukocytes. During this phase, the external genitalia were reddish, tumescent; and the cervical mucus was evident. In the metaestrus phase, we observed a decrease of superficial cells, as well as the highest indices of intermediate cells, an increase of leukocytes and the presence of metestrus and foam cells. In the diestrus phase, the intermediate cells increased and leukocytes decreased. In conclusion, the present study suggests that it is possible to differentiate the phase of estrous cycle by vaginal cytology.

Growth curve of female collared peccaries (Pecari tajacu) raised in captivity in the Brazilian Amazon Region
(2013-08) GARNERO, Analía del Valle; MARCONDES, Cíntia Righetti; ALBUQUERQUE, Natália Inagaki de; ARAÚJO, Ronyere Olegário de; LE PENDU, Yvonnick; GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo
This work aims to determine the most suitable nonlinear model to describe the growth of female collared peccaries (Pecari tajacu). The monthly records of the weight of 10 captive female collared peccaries over a period of two years in the Brazilian Amazon Region were used. The growth models used were the Von Bertalanffy, Brody, Gompertz and Logistic. The parameters were estimated by using the NLIN procedure from the SAS application. The criteria used to verify the adjustment of the models were: asymptotic standard deviation (ASD); coefficient of determination (R2); average absolute residual deviation (ARD) and the asymptotic rate (AR). The Brody model and the Logistic model estimated the highest (19.44kg) and the lowest (19.18kg) asymptotic weight (A), indicating the lowest (0.0070kg/day) and the highest (0.0121kg/day) maturation rate (K). These results and the coefficients of phenotypic correlation that varied from -0.75 and -0.47 confirmed the antagonistic nature between these parameters. The Brody model estimated the lower value for ARD, a limiting factor for describing the lowest value for AR through this model. The Brody model showed the best adjustment for AR, although the other models also showed a suitable adjustment to the weight data of said species/gender. Based on the AR obtained in this work, the Brody model is recommended for adjusting the growth curve of the female collared peccaries. Depending on the estimated values, especially for K, this trait can be included in a selection index.

    Sensibilidade materna durante o banho
(2002-12) SILVA, Simone Souza da Costa; LE PENDU, Yvonnick; PONTES, Fernando Augusto Ramos; DUBOIS, Michel Jean
The theory of the attachment has been considering the mother-child relation as a determinant of the development. Its quality has been being related with the sensibility of the caretaker, and consequently with the quality of the relations with its own caretakers. Recently, maternal sensibility has been related with several factors such as social class and education. The goal of the present work is to investigate some variables that influence the maternal sensibility in the bath situation. Sixty baths given by mothers belonging to low or average classes were filmed. The dyads were constituted by mothers that had between 18 to 40 years and children of 0 to 1 year old. Sensitive behaviors were less frequent among mothers of low class than among mothers of middle class, which were more educated, older and which have the possibility to share the care of their infant with someone. These results suggest that the maternal sensibility is a phenomenon related to sociocultural variables.
