Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Inclusão, exclusão e cidadania como desafio para a política em regiões de modernidade periférica(2007-06) MATHIS, ArminSocial exclusion is more and more emphasized in the political discourse in Brazil. Political action, in this field, is strongly aimed at creating legitimacy for the social system itself. Within this process of legitimacy creation, the political system claims more responsibility for itself, despite its failure in achieving an effective implementation. This fact is observed through the comparison between a semantic amplification of the concept of citizenship and the empiric reality of human rights violations in the State of Pará, mainly focusing on the actions towards citizenship and impaired people. The governmental intervention, however, has not been able to halt the multiple exclusion process that resulted from the `blind' action of functional systems in modern society.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Os limites da ação coletiva nos Conselhos Municipais de Saúde(2014-06) FARIAS FILHO, Milton Cordeiro; SILVA, Andréia Neves da; MATHIS, ArminThis article addresses the collective actions of participation in the municipal health councils. The underlying research sought to establish the performance of the councilors in the municipal health councils in the Metropolitan Region of Belém in the State of Pará. A survey of documents for the 2005-2010 period, structured interviews and observations with counselors in sessions of meetings of the boards of three counties were analyzed. An indicator of three levels of participation centered on the legal functions of the health councils and based on the theory of social groups as its analytical principle was constructed. The results indicate that the activities of the councils are marked by the co-option of councilors and the definition of deliberative agendas on the part of representatives of management, in which individual interests predominate over the collective interests of the councilors in the deliberations. The conclusion is that such behavior is contrary to the principles of the Unified Health System - SUS and weakens the social image of the councils, in addition to opening up a new analytical perspective.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Responsabilidade social corporativa e direitos humanos: discursos e realidades(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-06) MATHIS, Adriana de Azevedo; MATHIS, ArminThis article conducts a critical analysis of the creation and consolidation of global parameters for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in relation to human rights in Europe and Brazil, in the current stage of globalized capitalism. As a methodological-theoretical resource, it is based, on the international level, on a set of legal norms about corporate social responsibility and human rights at transnational companies. On a national level, the study uses as a theoretical-methodological reference a bibliographic survey of the concept of CSR in new standards of peripheral capitalism, inserted in the context of globalization.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) O sistema político e a Amazônia brasileira: considerações político-institucionais(2004-12) MATHIS, Armin; FARIAS FILHO, Milton CordeiroThis paper examines the context surrounding sub-national states which form the Brazilian Amazon area. Peculiarities of the political system of the region are discussed, as well as their relation with recent constitutional provisions (Federal Constitution of 1988), and their consequences in the setting up of representative political institutions. Our goal is to demonstrate regional particularities and influences derived from the construction of the Brazilian federation. However, it presents the same problems of the federation, regarding political and party structures, and the institutional developments. We conclude by stating that the absence of regional solidarity hinders the participation of Amazon states in the national system.
