Industrial and domestic waste cause serious problems for the environment. Industries treatment of kaolin have been deposited reject in large lakes of sedimentation and this has caused accidents as occurred in august/2007 and February/2008. The large volume of kaolin in the lakes sedimentation invaded lakes and rivers from Rio Capim, Para region. This fact resulted in the pollution of waters and death of fish. This problem can be minimized with the use of kaolin reject (KR) in the synthesis of new materials. In this work was used KR treated with organic acid (glycine at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% , being obtained the adsorbents: KR-gly-5, KRgly-10 and KL-gly-15, respectively) and mixture NaClO4:HClO4 (proportions 1:50 and 1:75, being obtained the adsorbents KR-NaClO4:HClO4-1:50 and KR- NaClO4:HClO4- 1:75, respectively) and KR as source of Si and Al in the synthesis of zeolites. The materials were characterized by chemical composition and XRD, FTIR, DTA-TG and SEM data. These materials were studied in adsorption process for CrO4 2- from aqueous solutions. The results obtained indicate that the CrO4 2- is adsorbed by kaolin reject and other materials from KR followed this order: KR-gly-10> KR-gly-5>KR-gly-15>KG> KR- NaClO4:HClO4- 1:75> zeolites.

Characterization and distribution of pyrogenic carbon in a fraction of archaeological black earth from Caxiuanã
(2015-08) MORAES, Milena Carvalho de; LEMOS, Vanda Porpino; MORAES, Dorsan dos Santos; MORAES, Cláudio Nery Lamarão
This study aims to determine the atomic ratio of O/C in an archaeological black earth (ABE) profile of the Ilha de Terra site, a region of Caxiuanã in the Pará State, Brazil, to determine the types of pyrogenic carbon (PyC) particles and to infer the source of biomass and burning temperature necessary to produce the PyC. The O/C ratios were monitored using scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). The results indicated atomic ratios for clay, silt and fine sand fractions that were between those registered for the PyC particles types: condensed combustion (CC) (0.09, 0.1, 0.13), charcoal (0.32, 0.31, 0.34) and char (0.43, 0.45, 0.52). CC is the predominant type of particle found because of the high firing temperature (> 350 °C), which is consistent with the probable biomass sources of wood, cellulose and lignin.

Nutrients in Amazonian Black Earth from Caxiuanã Region
(2011) LEMOS, Vanda Porpino; MEIRELES, Antônio Roberto de Oliveira; DANTAS, Kelly das Graças Fernandes; MORAES, Milena Carvalho de; COSTA, Marcondes Lima da; SILVA, Any Kelly Terra da; KERN, Dirse Clara
Dispersion of nutrients in Amazonian black earth (ABE) can provide information on human activities of the inhabitants of the Amazon region. Studies on the pH, available phosphorus (P), organic matter (OM) and the exchangeable cations Ca2+ e Mg2+ were performed on soil samples from horizons A1 and A2 over an area with TPA (north-south and east-west) at a site called Ilha de Terra, located in the Conservation Unit Caxiuanã National Forest, Melgaço County, Brazil. The results indicated that the OM and Ca2+ are the ones with greater dispersion. Higher correlations were found between OM-Ca-Mg to near the central area. This leads to the inference that the dispersion geochemistry of MO, Ca, Mg and P in archaeological sites with TPA is related to past human activities.
