This study aimed to identify the skills needed for effective performance of community health workers in the municipalities of Bragança (PA) and Capanema (PA). This is a research with qualitative approach and descriptive study. Data were collected in two Family Health Units, through a questionnaire to eight ACS in each municipality. The results show that the skills most mobilized by ACS are: to achieve the integration of local health staff with the population, health promotion, prevention and monitoring specific morbidities and groups. The study made it possible to characterize the profile of competence of these professionals for the planning of actions for training and courses, or hiring new servers.
