Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Amphibians and reptiles from Floresta Nacional de Pau-Rosa, Amazonas, Brazil: an important protected area at the heart of Amazonia(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2017-09) FERREIRA, Gisele Cassundé; STURARO, Marcelo José; PELOSO, Pedro Luiz Vieira DelAmazonia harbors the largest and most diverse tropical forest in the world, but knowledge about the species diversity of the region is still far from ideal. Given this low level of faunal and floral knowledge, we present an annotated list of the species of amphibians and reptiles found in Floresta Nacional do Pau-Rosa (FNPR), along the Rio Paraconi, municipality of Maués, state of Amazonas, Brazil. Herpetofauna of the FNPR was sampled with pitfall traps, active search and occasional encounters from February 18 to March 28, 2009. A total of 270 specimens were collected, representing 39 species of amphibians and 24 species of reptiles. At least seven of the species collected at FNPR represented, at the time, unnamed taxa (four of which have now been named). The number of taxa collected and the high number of unnamed taxa highlight the importance of this area in terms of biodiversity and as a priority for conservation. We also discuss about the amphibian diversity in Amazonia.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Biometria testicular, eletroejaculação e características seminais de caititus, Tayassu tajacu Linnaeus, 1758 (Mammalia, Artiodactyla, Tayassuidae) mantidos em cativeiro na Amazônia Oriental(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2010-12) KAHWAGE, Priscila Reis; GARCIA, Alexandre Rossetto; GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo; OHASHI, Otávio Mitio; RAMOS, Rosemar Silva Luz; DIAS, Hilma Lúcia Tavares; ALBUQUERQUE, Natália Inagaki de; BARTHA, Mário Mansour PinheiroResearch development in semen collection and sperm evaluation of Tayassu tajacu are necessary. The aims of this research were to evaluate testicular biometry of captive collared peccaries, test electroejaculation for semen collection and evaluate seminal characteristics during the year. Eight animals were submitted to electroejaculation and semen samples were evaluated according their physical and morphological characteristics. Left testicles measured 3.8 ± 0.4 cm X 2.6 ± 0.3 cm and presented 2.3 ± 0.2 of consistence, while right testicles were 3.8 ± 0.5 cm X 2.7 ± 0.3 cm and presented 2.3 ± 0.2 of consistence. Success rate on semen collections achieved 75.21%. Semen presented 0.81 ± 0.86 mL (volume), 137.44 ± 153 x 106 sptz mL-1 (sperm concentration), 7.92 ± 0.73 (pH), 52.66 ± 28.79% (sperm motility), 2.2 ± 0.8 (vigour), 55.84 ± 28.55% (plasmatic membrane integrity), 22.87 ± 12.93% (primary defects), 9.11 ± 5.88% (secondary defects) and 31.52 ± 13.81% (overall defects). Seminal characteristics showed no expressive variation along the year. Testicular symmetry was observed, electroejaculation was an efficient method to semen collection and slight mensal oscillations of seminal quality were not enough to characterize collared peccaries as seasonal reproductive animals.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Biometric relationships between body size and otolith size in 15 demersal marine fish species from the northern Brazilian coast(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2019-12) OLIVEIRA, Rory Romero de Sena; ANDRADE, Marcelo Costa; MACHADO, Fabiola Seabra; CUNHA, Élida Jesana Santana; FREITAS, Flaviane Souto de; KLAUTAU, Alex Garcia Cavalleiro de Macedo; GIARRIZZO, Tommaso; SAINT-PAUL, UlrichThe relationships between fish size and sagitta otolith measurements were calculated for the first time for 15 species belonging to six families from the northern Brazilian coast. A total of 220 fish were sampled from the bycatch landed by the bottom-trawl industrial shrimp-fishing fleet between August and September 2016. All species had strong relationships between otolith measurements and fish total length with the coefficient of determination (r 2) ranging between 0.71 and 0.99. The variable most strongly related to fish total length was found to be the sagittal otolith length (OL) with 98% of the variability. These relationships are a useful tool to estimate length and mass of preyed fish from otoliths found in stomach contents of marine predators.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Características reprodutivas da paca fêmea (Agouti paca) criada em cativeiro(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2008) GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo; BASTOS, Luciana Valois; FERREIRA, Ana Cássia Sarmento; RAMOS, Rosemar Silva Luz; OHASHI, Otávio Mitio; RIBEIRO, Haroldo Francisco LobatoThe objective of this paper was to study the reproductive biology of the Agouti paca raised in captivity. It was observed that the estrous cycle average was 32.5 + 3.7 days, gestation length 148.6 + 4.8 days, parturition interval 224.5 + 52.2 days, and the first post-partum 25.6 + 8.8 days. It was also observed that 55.5% of the females presented two parturitions per year with one young per parturition, of which 44.7% were females and 55.3% were males. The birth weight was 605.9 + 87.8 g for females and 736.7 + 108.4 g for males (P<0.05). Puberty in females occurred between 8 to 12 months; for this, however, more detailed investigations are necessary.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Caracterização farmacognóstica de Piper arboreum var. Arboreum e P. tuberculatum (Piperaceae)(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2016-06) SILVA, Rolf Junior Ferreira; DIAS, Ana Cristina Andrade de Aguiar; FAIAL, Kelson do Carmo Freitas; MENDONÇA, Maria Sílvia dePiper arboreum Aubl. var. arboreum and P. tuberculatum Jacq. (Piperaceae), both known as “pimenta-longa”, are frequently misidentified. Despite the fact that both species are sold as traditional phytotherapeutic products, there are no reports on their quality control. The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize leaf and stem herbal drugs of both species using standard methods aiming to establish parameters for botanical authentication and purity degree for their quality control. Size, shape, color, taste, texture, fracture surface and transection characteristics, and leaf venation patterns are macroscopic diagnostic characters useful to distinguish the herbal drugs when they are not powdered. The following characters are useful for diagnostic purposes of the powdered herbal drugs: cuticular and epicuticular wax patterns, types of trichomes, and wall thickening of the tracheary elements, and shape of the hilum of the starch grains. Emergences are key morphological markers for P. tuberculatum herbal drugs. Physicochemical parameter values were similar in herbal drugs of both species, except acid-insoluble ash value which was higher in the P. arboreum var. arboreum stem herbal drugs. Piper arboreum var. arboreum herbal drugs had the highest metal concentrations. Al, Cu, Mn and V concentrations were the highest, whereas Cd, Co and Hg concentrations were the lowest in the herbal drugs of both species. The results obtained can be used as quality control parameters for the herbal drugs of both species.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Chemical composition of phytoplankton from the estuaries of Eastern Amazonia(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2014-12) VILHENA, Maria do Perpétuo Socorro Progene; COSTA, Marcondes Lima da; BERRÊDO, José Francisco; PAIVA, Rosildo Santos; ALMEIDA, Pryscila DenisePhytoplankton is important bioindicator of chemical and biological modifications of natural ecosystems. The objective of this study was to determine the total chemical composition of the phytoplankton of the Pará and Mocajuba estuaries on the eastern coast of the Amazon region in the Brazilian state of Pará. The chemical composition of the surface water, bottom sediments (total sample and bioavailable fraction), and the phytoplankton were determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Phytoplankton contained high concentrations of Ca, P, Mn, Fe, Zn, Al, Ba, and Pb. The phytoplankton of the Mocajuba estuary is rich in Fe (2,967-84,750 µg g-1), while those from the Pará is rich in Al (1,216-15,389 µgg-1), probably reflecting divergent anthropogenic inputs. Both samples indicated a high bioconcentration factor derived from both the water and the bioavailable fraction, reflecting the efficiency of these organisms in the concentration of metals.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Composição e riqueza de Odonata (Insecta) em riachos com diferentes níveis de conservação em um ecótone Cerrado-Floresta Amazônica(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2014-06) JUEN, Leandro; OLIVEIRA JUNIOR, José Max Barbosa de; SHIMANO, Yulie; MENDES, Thiago Pereira; CABETTE, Helena Soares RamosThe removal or substitution of riparian vegetation causes disturbance in physical environment, seasonal water flow and water chemical quality. These modifications can cause decrease in species richness by local extinctions. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of disturbance in the physical environmental on the richness and species composition of Odonata adults in streams with different levels of conservation in the river Suiá-Missu basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Modifications in the aquatic systems affected the Odonata community, probably because their ecophysiological and behavioral requirements of adults and larvae. Anisoptera species, which require sunny environments because of their body size, had higher species richness in environments with low plant cover. On the other hand, Zygoptera species, which generally inhabit streams with dense vegetation, presented a decrease in richness in disturbed environments, as a result high sunlight radiation and/or variations in temperature. Hence, in both suborders, environmental perturbations do not need to be severe to change species composition, indicating that ecosystem services could be lost, even with only partial alterations in physical environment.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Conidial fungi associated with leaf litter of red cedar (Cedrela odorata) in Belém, Pará (eastern Brazilian Amazon)(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2018-09) SANTOS, Renato Ferreira dos; SOTÃO, Helen Maria Pontes; MONTEIRO, Josiane Santana; GUSMÃO, Luís Fernando Pascholati; GUTIÉRREZ, Antonio HernándezThe aim of this study was to investigate the species of conidial fungi associated with leaf litter of Cedrela odorata (Meliaceae), an endangered red cedar species typical of Amazonian terra-firme forests. Conidial fungi were sampled around C. odorata individuals in three forest areas in the municipality of Belém (Pará State, Brazil). A total of 104 species were identified, with 53 new records for the state of Pará, 46 first records for the Brazilian Amazon, including new records for Brazil (Cordana abramovii), for South America (Acarocybiopsis cubitaensis, Xylocladium claviforme) and for the Americas (Dactylaria biguttulata). A review of species of conidial fungi reported on C. odorata is provided, indicating its distribution in Brazil. For each new record in Brazil, South America and the Americas we present a description, illustrations, geographical distribution and taxonomic comments.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Determinação do ciclo estral em catetos Pecari tajacu: aspectos colpocitológicos e clínicos(2011) GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo; GARCIA, Sylvia Cristina Garcia de; LE PENDU, Yvonnick; ALBUQUERQUE, Natália Inagaki deThe main objective of this work was to study the estrous cycle of collared peccary by vaginal cytology. Samples were collected in 10 adult females, three times a week, for six months. The estrous cycle period for this specie was 28.45 ± 5.45 days. We observed a significant difference (p<0.01) between the cell types in the same phase of the oestrous cycle. During the proestrus phase, the exfoliative cytology arrangement showed high frequency of intermediate and superficial cells. The estrus phase had elevated rates of superficial cells, when compared to the other types, and an absence of leukocytes. During this phase, the external genitalia were reddish, tumescent; and the cervical mucus was evident. In the metaestrus phase, we observed a decrease of superficial cells, as well as the highest indices of intermediate cells, an increase of leukocytes and the presence of metestrus and foam cells. In the diestrus phase, the intermediate cells increased and leukocytes decreased. In conclusion, the present study suggests that it is possible to differentiate the phase of estrous cycle by vaginal cytology.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Do local environmental factors structure the trophic niche of the splash tetra, Copella arnoldi? a test in an Amazonian stream system(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2020-03) SOARES, Bruno Eleres; BENONE, Naraiana Loureiro; ROSA, Daniela Cristina Oliveira; MONTAG, Luciano Fogaça de AssisEnvironmental variation affects the availability of spatial and trophic resources in Amazonian streams and may be important factors structuring the diet of fishes. We analyzed the diet composition and trophic niche breadth of the lebiasinid splash tetra, Copella arnoldi, aiming to evaluate how environmental variation in Amazonian streams affects the species’ trophic niche. Fish were captured and environmental factors were recorded in 20 streams in the Caxiuanã National Forest, in the eastern Amazon, in November 2010. We made a semi-quantitative analysis of stomach contents of 200 individuals. Copella arnoldi exhibited an omnivorous diet composed mainly of detritus and allochthonous invertebrates. Environmental variation (stream width, stream depth, canopy cover and flow) did not affect the diet composition or trophic niche breadth of the species, possibly due to the regional integrity of the forest within the boundaries of the protected area. Riparian cover probably minimizes the effect of the small-scale variations in food resources, thus leading to a locally homogeneous diet composition in the splash tetra C. arnoldi.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Ecological studies of mayflies (Insecta, Ephemeroptera): can sampling effort be reduced without losing essential taxonomic and ecological information?(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2018-06) SHIMANO, Yulie; MATOS, Mylena Neves Cardoso; JUEN, LeandroThe present study evaluated the potential for the reduction of sampling effort in studies of ephemeropteran nymphs in Brazilian Amazon streams, Pará State, Brazil, without the loss of ecological information (species composition, abundance, and richness), and the congruence of different levels of taxonomic resolution (morphospecies, genus, family and functional group). Test groups of 15, 10 and five subsamples were selected from the 20 subsamples collected per stream (40 streams sampled), and were compared in terms of their species richness and abundance (ANOVA), and composition (Procrustes). Taxonomic resolution was also analyzed in Procrustes. Species abundance (F(3, 156) = 25.426; p < 0.001) and richness (F(3, 156) = 13.866, p < 0.001) varied significantly among sample groups, while the results of the 15-S group were statistically similar, in both cases, to those of the 20-S group. A similar pattern was found for species composition. The genus-level taxonomic resolution produced results 99% similar to those found for the species-level data. The results indicate that the reduction in sampling effort from 20 to 15 subsamples per site and a genus-level taxonomic resolution would not affect the reliability of analyses significantly. A reduction of five samples per site would result in a decrease of effort in the field and the amount of material to be processed, reducing laboratory time. In addition to a reduction in the time and resources needed to identify specimens, the adoption of a genus-level taxonomic resolution could help minimize errors of under- or over-estimation in the processing of the results.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Environmental structure affects taxonomic diversity but not functional structure of understory birds in the southwestern Brazilian Amazon(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2019-09) OLIVEIRA, Jocieli de; ALMEIDA, Sara Miranda; FLORÊNCIO, Fernando do Prado; PINHO, João Batista de; OLIVEIRA, Dalci Mauricio Miranda de; SANTOS, Raphael Ligeiro Barroso; RODRIGUES, Domingos de JesusChanges in environmental characteristics can affect habitat use by birds, impacting the number of individuals, number of species, and changing species composition and functional structure of assemblages. Metrics that evaluate the functional structure of biological assemblages constitute a complementary tool to the traditional taxonomic approach, because they quantify the differences between species by means of functional traits. We assessed the effect of environmental characteristics on the taxonomic diversity (species richness, species composition and number of individuals) and functional structure (functional richness, functional evenness, Rao’s functional diversity, and community-weighted mean traits) of bird assemblages in northern Mato Grosso state, in the southwestern Brazilian Amazon. We sampled birds in 32 plots. At each plot birds were captured using mist nets, and eight environmental variables were measured: canopy openness, leaf litter, elevation, number of trees in three classes of DBH, soil clay content, and distance to nearest stream. To evaluate functional structure, we measured seven morphological traits from individuals of each bird species. Habitat variables had a significant effect on taxonomic diversity. However, the general functional structure was not affected. Elevation and distance to nearest stream were the main variables driving changes in taxonomic diversity and had a minor effect on functional richness. The other metrics of functional structure were not significantly affected by the set of environmental variables. Our results suggest that the sampled bird assemblages exhibit some functional tolerance (redundancy) to small-scale environmental variation, implying certain resilience to ecosystem modification.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Estruturas secretoras da lâmina foliar de amapá amargo (Parahancornia fasciculata, Apocynaceae): histoquímica e doseamento de flavonoides(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2013-12) SANTOS, Ana Carla Feio dos; DIAS, Ana Cristina Andrade de Aguiar; AMARANTE, Cristine Bastos do; FERREIRA, Márlia Regina CoelhoBitter amapa (Parahancornia fasciculata (Poir.) Benoist) produces a latex, which is presumed to have medicinal properties, as it is used in the treatment of malaria, lung problems, gastritis, and as healing agent. This study aimed to analyze structural and histochemically the sites of production and/or accumulation of biologically active compounds, as well as to determine the kind of flavonoids present in the leaf blade of bitter amapa. For structural and histochemical analysis we used standard protocols in plant anatomy. Whereas to assay flavonoids we used absorption spectrometry in the ultraviolet-visible region. The secretory system of bitter amapa leaves is constituted of both secretory idioblasts and branched laticifers. Histochemical tests revealed different types of chemical substances in the cell protoplast of idioblasts and laticifers. Pharmacological properties of bitter amapa latex can be attributed to two chemical compounds (flavonoids and alkaloids) found in this study, both of them are present in idioblasts and laticifers.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Estruturas secretoras em cipó-d'alho (Mansoa standleyi (Steyerm.) Gentry, Bignoniaceae): ocorrência e morfologia(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2012-09) POTIGUARA, Raimunda Conceição de Vilhena; DIAS, Ana Cristina Andrade de Aguiar; KIKUCHI, Tatiani Yuriko Souza; SANTOS, Ana Carla Feio dos; SILVA, Rolf Junior FerreiraSpecies of Mansoa are called "cipó-d'alho" because of the smell of garlic that wafts from their vegetative and reproductive parts. Since data on the morphology and occurrence of their secretory structures are scarce and even absent for M. standleyi, the present work characterizes the distribution and morphology of such structures in the vegetative aerial axis of the latter. To do so, samples of the leaf blade and of nodal regions were fixed and examined using histological and scanning electron microscope techniques. Histochemical tests with appropriate controls were carried out on the secretory structures during the secretory phase. Fly and ant individuals that visit the species were sampled, preserved and identified by an entomologist. The secretory structures of the vegetative aerial axis of M. standleyi are peltate and patelliform glandular trichomes. All develop asynchronously and are present in the nodal regions and leaf blade, mainly in their youngest parts. Trichomes form a secretory complex in the nodal regions while they are scattered in the leaf blade. Histochemical analyses revealed that the cupulate and patelliform trichomes are extrafloral nectaries and that the peltate ones present an alkaloid fraction. The visitors of the nodal glands are ants Crematogaster (Formicidae) and Ectatomma brunea (Vespoidea, Formicidae) and flies Oxysarcodexia (Sarcophagidae, subfamily Utitidae [Ulidiidae]). The secretory structures of the vegetative aerial axis of Mansoa standleyi are similar to those reported for Bignoniaceae. An extrafloral nectary is described for M. standleyi for the first time.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Extração e análise eletroforética em gel de poliacrilamida (SDS-PAGE) de proteínas totais de folhas e raízes de Piper tuberculatum(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2009) SILVA, Redinaldo dos Santos; SOUZA, Claudia Regina Batista deThe Pará State is the principal Brazilian producer of black pepper (Piper nigrum Link), however, the spice’s production has been damaged by the Fusarium disease. The Fusarium solani f. sp. piperis, causal agent of this disease which attacks the plant root system promoting the root rot, leaves fall and plant death. Piperaceae plants endemic of Amazon region and resistant to F. solani f. sp. piperis infection, such as Piper tuberculatum Jacq., which has been studied in order to understand this host-pathogen interaction. In this work were evaluated five conditions for total protein extraction aiming to select suitable buffers for extraction of total proteins from P. tuberculatum leaves and roots. The conditions used to roots and leaves protein extractions were salt buffer, sucrose buffer, glycerol buffer, urea buffer and sodium phosphate buffer. Quantitative analysis showed that sucrose, glycerol and urea buffers were more efficient for leaves and roots protein extractions. SDS-PAGE analysis showed distinct band patterns in leaves and roots protein extracts obtained with different buffers. Our results could support the selection of extraction buffers for proteomics analysis in P. tuberculatum - F. solani f sp. piperis interaction studies.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Feeding ecology of Serrasalmus gouldingi (Characiformes: Serrasalmidae) in the lower Anapu River region, Eastern Amazon, Brazil(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2016-09) PRUDENTE, Bruno da Silveira; MARINHO, Pedro Carneiro; VALENTE, Roberta de MeloStudies on feeding ecology of fishes are important to understand the relationship between species and environmental seasonal variations. In tropical rivers, these relationships are mainly modeled by hydrological patterns. Thereby, this study aimed to assess the influence of fluviometric variation and life stage (juveniles and adults) in the feeding ecology of Serrasalmus gouldingi in the lower Anapu River region, located in Eastern Amazon, Pará, Brazil. Specimens were collected bimonthly, considering four different hydrological periods. We assessed the diet composition, feeding intensity and niche breadth of the species. Thirty-two dietary items were identified and grouped into ten categories. A total of 279 stomachs were analyzed, showing a predominance of fish fragments, followed by fruits and seeds. The diet composition of S. gouldingi differed only between drought and flood season, although it did not differ between juveniles and adults. An increase in feeding intensity was recorded during the rise in the water level, with a lower feeding intensity observed during transitional season. Serrasalmus gouldingi showed lower niche breadth during flood season, attributed to the high consumption of fruits and seeds, presenting an omnivorous diet with high tendency towards piscivory. Although less evident than in other Amazon watersheds, the flood pulse in the lower Anapu River region is an important factor influencing the feeding ecology of the species.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Identification of duplicates of cassava accessions sampled on the North Region of Brazil using microsatellite markers(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2013-12) MOURA, Elisa Ferreira; FARIAS NETO, João Tomé de; SAMPAIO, José Edson; SILVA, Diehgo Tuloza da; RAMALHO, Girena FernandesDuplicates are common in germplasm banks and their identification is needed to facilitate germplasm bank management and to reduce maintenance costs. The aim of this work was to identify duplicates of cassava from a germplasm bank in Eastern Amazon, which had been previously characterized both morphological and agronomically. In order to be genotyped with 15 microsatellite loci, 36 accessions were selected. These accessions were classified into 13 groups of similar morpho-agronomical characteristics. All loci were polymorphic, and 75 alleles were identified, with an average of five alleles per loci and HE = 0.66. There were determined 34 pairs of genotypes with identical multiloci profiles and the probability of genetic identity was 1.1x10-12 with probability of exclusion of 99.9999%. Among these duplicates, there are accessions sampled on different years and places, but with different names and accessions with the same name sampled in different places and years. The study identified genotypes that are grown in different places and that have been maintained over the years by local farmers.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Insights into the development of a juvenile harpy eagle’s hunting skills(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2019-06) FERREIRA, Thiago Cavalcante; TUYAMA, Carlos Augusto; MOURTHÉ, Ítalo Martins da CostaThe post-fledging period is of paramount importance for raptors, since this is when a juvenile develops its hunting skills and gains the abilities required in adulthood and independence through dispersal. Little is known however, about this stage in the lives of raptors such as harpy eagles, Harpia harpyja. Between March 2016 and July 2017, we recorded three predation attempts on groups of primates by a wild juvenile harpy eagle in southwestern Brazilian Amazonia, including the first predation of an adult squirrel monkey, Saimiri ustus. These sequential records give insights into the gradual development of hunting skills during the post-fledging period, similar to what has been reported for other birds of prey. However, the anatomy of their vegetative structures remains poorly studied. The goal of this study was to describe the anatomical features of Theobroma grandiflorum, T. speciosum and T. subincanum to contribute to the biological knowledge of these species, as well as provide support to the biotechnological studies of native fruit plants of the Amazon. Leaves at different developmental stages were collected and analyzed under light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Sessile and stalked stellate trichomes and digitiform glandular trichomes were observed in the expanded leaves of T. grandiflorum and T. subincanum. These species were also similar in the morphology of the midrib, the organization of the mesophyll and the presence of starch grains in the midrib pith cells. Claviform glandular trichomes and mucilage cells in the epidermis occurred only in the expanded leaves of T. speciosum. The presence of mucilage secretory trichomes in shoot apices (colleters) of all species is a new finding for the genus Theobroma.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Length-weight relationship in ten fish species from the Nhamundá River, the Amazon Basin, Brazil(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2017-03) FREITAS, Tiago Magalhães da Silva; SOUZA, João Batista de Souza e; PRUDENTE, Bruno da Silveira; MONTAG, Luciano Fogaça de AssisStudies on the length-weight relationship (LWR) of fishes are an important tool to describe several biological aspects of the species. Consequently, these studies are relevant due the necessity of comprehension about fish life cycle. Thus, this study aimed to establish the length-weight relationship of the ten most common fish in the Lower Nhamundá River, left tributary of the Amazon River. The capture of fish was conducted in January 2008 using gill nets. A total of 807 individuals, ten species and three Orders (Characiformes, Siluriformes and Clupeiformes) were analyzed. The parameter b varied from 2.680 to 3.698. The LWR were shown for the first time for two species: Anostomoides laticeps and Ageneiosus polystictus. Finally, this research emphasizes the importance of LWR studies in the Amazon and the use of primary data for fisheries management plans.
