Based on specialized literature, it states that the communication of knowledge brought by less traditional countries in the scientific field faces a great difficulty when it comes to publishing material in specialized periodicals of international prestige. Through analyses on the Institute for Scientific Information – ISI database, as well as interviews with researches from the main post-graduation programs in the Amazon region, this work identifies and analyzes conditions that are related to the success of researchers that published their articles in international periodicals. It concludes that collaboration among researchers from the Amazon region and other specialists from other countries, as through the co-authorship of works, can facilitate the publication in specialized literature, and, also, that scientific leadership is a distinctive factor when it comes to academic production and communication of the researches in international periodicals.
