    In this research it is done the analysis of the discourse of the media faced to the politics and actions oriented by the development ideology and also the private documents in the process of implantation of ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A. This research aimed on describing the routes and discourses about the process of industrializing and development of Brazil from the year of 1950, examining the impacts toward the Amazon region context; relate the economy scenario of Maranhão State in1980 with implantation of the ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A Project; examine the discourses of the press media from Maranhão when informing the population of São Luís about the environmental impacts of the implantation of the ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A Project.; identify the actions and reactions of ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A Project about the discourses of the press media during the implantation of the alumini and aluminium plant. To guarantee this aim, it is presented a set of theories about the development ideology, via the process of industrialization of the government of Getulio Vargas and Juscelino Kubitscheck and the strategy of occupation of the Amazon Rain Forest during the military government. The government of Getulio Vargas defended a project of autonomous national development. The governmental rhetoric was the construction of a developed nation. The government of Juscelino Kubitschek aimed on the development through the attraction and stimulus of foreign investments in productive sectors. The Military Government though, intensified the occupation of Amazon Rain Forest, through the implantation of regional development plans. It is shown the impacts of the implantation of the ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A Project on the economy, on the social and on the environmental aspects in the State of Maranhão. The model of the research used is quality and interpretation based, also going through the exploring, descriptive, bibliographic and documental research. The documental background is based on the local press media in the period of implantation of the ALCOA MINERAÇÃO S.A Project, from the years of 1980 to 1984. The techniques used to analyze and interpret the results were the analysis of the discourse underlined by the French School. Along the analysis of the discourse of the press media, it was possible to verify its action on an ideological basis and that its discourses, originally come from several enunciations: govern, politics and other civil actors.

    This work aims to study the relationships that have to build from the installation of Bauxite Mine Extraction Company by Alcoa in the municipality of Juruti. The objective is to study the social and environmental impact that the installation of mining is causing and from a critical and emancipatory understand how the state, society and business are related and what interests are served. The theoretical construction of this work takes as a foundation for discussion of environmental complexity, environmental education in environmental management, development processes in Amazonia, democracy and modes of production, together with these elements that the discussion of the logic of capital. The mining company has to change production methods and habits of a significant part of local people to understand that the methodology was the lifting of quantitative and qualitative data, which were constructed from interviews with local actors, information collected through institutions working with statistical data and literature surveys for the construction of the theoretical discussion together with the reports that were presented in the media. The analysis of the indicators presented by the company and its program of environmental education were two important instruments for the analysis of work, because it is possible to see how weak the process of building a real alternative to improving the lives of people where the lack of governance and straightforward way to ensure governance dictate orders. The completion of the work shows that the social and environmental impact caused by the company significantly changed the lives of local people, their habits, their customs, their mode of production. Promoted the increase of diseases and injuries caused by poisonous animals, caused the swelling of the headquarters of the city and that so far the measures the company took in March of mitigation are small impacts, such as improving the selective collection of solid waste.

    Natureza capitalista versus natureza orgânica: o advento da ALCOA e a mobilização e organização das comunidades de Juruti no baixo-amazonas paraense

    The thesis aims to show the reading and analysis of the processes that led to unprecedented achievements involving communities in Juruti, low Amazon region located in the state of Pará Juruti was the scene of conflict, negotiations, agreements and achievements with the large enterprise mineral extraction developed by ALCOA. These achievements are the result of external and internal factors. External marked by a favorable set related to the leftist government in federal, state and municipal level, a legal institutional framework that recognizes the collective and territorial rights, emergence of environmental issues and the presence of the Catholic Church, through the pastoral work of the Franciscan Sisters Maristella, guided by liberation theology and pedagogy of the oppressed. Internally prevailed traditional character, community life and collective practices as puxirum, enabled the establishment of an organized and capable of triggering processes of mobilization and resistance with minimal fragmentation and cooptation territory. With support from various theoretical contributions of sociology, anthropology and others who facilitated our reading of the living process in the territory of Juruti, as well as the approaches of post - development. The methodology of the research is exploratory, descriptive and explanatory nature combined with field techniques such as collecting information and interviews with key personnel, company documents, communities, the Catholic Church and others. This procedure aimed to understand the speeches made by the present authors in Juruti. We identified the close relationship of the Church with movements and groups that have embraced the fight in the Juruti region along ALCOA, through the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Maristella, by virtue of its history insertion site, and your choice in defense of traditionalism communities. Also realize an open government favorable to dialogue, there is a favorable political situation; the concern of global society with the environment; the existence of a legal framework to the recognition of institutionalized rights; such as territorial rights. This approach led to the conclusion that given the multiple actions of large projects is necessary to articulate opportunities and potentials in order to seek the ways of overcoming the invisibility given to communities by the state and big business enterprises. Organizational aspects in Juruti well as its articulation led to overcoming the mechanisms of domination, invisibility and standardization of traditional communities in the Amazon.
