In the Amazon there are several different wild animals species, becoming this way a good environment to investigated about compared physiology. Among this species, the caititu, Tayassu tajacu, stood out. This animals is located in central America and Latin America. There are many publications around morphology of sexual organs, meat and blood of the catitu. Although, regarding studies about visual’s morphology are scarce. Facing this reality, the present study investigated a morphology and topography of ganglion cells of Tayassu tajacu’s retina. Were used six retina, from eight animals, Both sexes of the species Tayassu tajacu. The caititu born and raised in captivity in the Brazilian company of research known as Embrapa/Pará. Were slaughtered according to the rules of animals ‘s management to subsequent removal and attachment of eyes. The retinas were dissected and stained using Nissl technique to ganglion cells of view, displaced amacrine, red blood cells, microglia cells and components of vascularization. A count of ganglion cells was made a long the horizontal and vertical axis. Being the number of ganglion cells by field converted into density values. The different regions of the retina were analyzed as the cellular density, obtaining the medium value of the density 351,822 ± 31,434 CG/mm². Verified different of the density between the studies regions : The dorsal region had a medium density and standard deviation 894 ± 44 CG/mm², the ventral region 894 ± 1 CG/mm²; the nasal region 1.403 ± 43; the temporal region with 1596 ± 251. The average peak density located approximately 3.13 mm from the dorsal direction and 6.77 mm in the temporal direction of the optic nerve, was 6767 GC / mm². Check there are two specialized regions, the visual streak region and the area temporalis. The visual streak located in the horizontal direction of the nasal region to temporal, presenting higher cellular density, possibly providing better panoramic vision from the environment and detecting the objects in the horizontal direction. Already the temporalis area, located within the visual range, provides increased visual acuity and spatial resolution, the environment that they live. These results allow to start comparisons between morphophysiological the retina of peccaries with other animal species.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-06-30) FERREIRA, Hellen Rosalva da Silva; CONDURÚ, Marise Teles; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6085807397296909; FLORES, Maria do Socorro Almeida; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8875436559577793
This work provides information on the presence of wild animals at the AbaetetubaPará Fair, proposes an analysis of environmental legal regulations, related to the meaning of the presence and exposure of these live and slaughtered animals at the fair, given their current understanding as environmental goods, as national heritage, as elements of biodiversity and as goods outside trade and environmental governance actions that involve public, municipal, state and federal agencies. The objective of this work is to offer a contribution to the effective protection of biodiversity, through a booklet with information on the preservation and sustainability of wild animals, in order to produce an instrument of "awareness". The methodology has a qualitative approach, with an analytical and exploratory character. The techniques of bibliographic and documentary research are used to survey theoreticalconceptual and normative materials. The collection of information was carried out through empirical observation and with the application of questionnaires which made it possible to map the attributions and competencies of the agencies in accordance with the environmental legislation in the protection of biodiversity and the locations of capture of the animals. As a preliminary result, the population was unaware of the illegality of the activity involving wild animals. There was a lack of public power management in the protection of wild animals, even with the existence of legislation, such practices continue to occur. As a product, a booklet was created, a work that presents mechanisms of environmental education, in order to raise awareness about the need for the preservation and sustainability of these animals and about the actions of public agencies, schools and society in general in the application of protection policies environmental.

(Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, 2010-12) KAHWAGE, Priscila Reis; GARCIA, Alexandre Rossetto; GUIMARÃES, Diva Anelie de Araújo; OHASHI, Otávio Mitio; RAMOS, Rosemar Silva Luz; DIAS, Hilma Lúcia Tavares; ALBUQUERQUE, Natália Inagaki de; BARTHA, Mário Mansour Pinheiro
Research development in semen collection and sperm evaluation of Tayassu tajacu are necessary. The aims of this research were to evaluate testicular biometry of captive collared peccaries, test electroejaculation for semen collection and evaluate seminal characteristics during the year. Eight animals were submitted to electroejaculation and semen samples were evaluated according their physical and morphological characteristics. Left testicles measured 3.8 ± 0.4 cm X 2.6 ± 0.3 cm and presented 2.3 ± 0.2 of consistence, while right testicles were 3.8 ± 0.5 cm X 2.7 ± 0.3 cm and presented 2.3 ± 0.2 of consistence. Success rate on semen collections achieved 75.21%. Semen presented 0.81 ± 0.86 mL (volume), 137.44 ± 153 x 106 sptz mL-1 (sperm concentration), 7.92 ± 0.73 (pH), 52.66 ± 28.79% (sperm motility), 2.2 ± 0.8 (vigour), 55.84 ± 28.55% (plasmatic membrane integrity), 22.87 ± 12.93% (primary defects), 9.11 ± 5.88% (secondary defects) and 31.52 ± 13.81% (overall defects). Seminal characteristics showed no expressive variation along the year. Testicular symmetry was observed, electroejaculation was an efficient method to semen collection and slight mensal oscillations of seminal quality were not enough to characterize collared peccaries as seasonal reproductive animals.

Historically, chelonians have played an important role as a natural resource as human food in the region, notably Kinosternon scorpioides specie or scorpion mud turtle, locally known as muçuã which has been suffering a gradual imbalance caused by inordinate catch. We aimed to evaluate the indexes of productive characteristics, at different stages of breeding, and the reproductive characteristics of copulation, ovarian activity and hatching of muçuãs in captivity, aiming better activity through an adequate zootechnical handling. The study was done between 2007 and 2015, when we analyzed 84 copulations, 742 ovarian activity and 1,979 births for reproductive evaluations, 1,835 animals in captivity, 921 animals for reproduction, and 3,614, among males and females for reproductive evaluations grown in captivity at Criatório Científico of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, Marajó Island -PA. In the reproductive characteristic analyses the results showed that the reproductive period is seasonal, concentrating couplings during the rainy season, when the average coupling activity consisted of 00:23:00 h, with proportion male: female of 2,38 + 1,67. The egg formation process took 122,98 + 45,38 days. The egg laying distribution presented a climax tendency between the end of June and early August. Nidification average duration was 02:57:00 h. The egg viability found was 20%. The correlation results between the biometric, weight, and number of eggs characteristics were positive. The egg biometrical results were 34,5 mm long, and 18 mm wide, with average weight of 7,90 g. The average duration of incubation, in days, was 129.31 + 19.57. Births concentrated between September and December. The correlations of biometric characteristics with the hatchlings weight were positive between the variables (P≤0,0001). For the productive characteristics the weights were obtained for all zootechnical categories where the hatchlings in the nesting area, with approximately 12 months of age, weighed 199.20 + 45,36 g and the adult above 36 months, had an average weight of 503.63 + 73.21 g. The correlations between weight and body measurements were significant As (P≤00001) for all categories. The results of influence of morphometric measurements over weight for all categories were significant (P≤0.0005). For weight and body measurement analyses under the influence of the season of the year we observed that the variables were significant (P≤00005), except for reproduction. For reproduction, weight and body measurements were evaluated considering the influence of sex, when it was observed that females had more than males, but males were longer than females. The characteristics of coupling, incubation period, and hatching permit to delineate a reproductive handling for raisin the specie in captivity under the conditions of Marajó Island. Research directed toward biology, nutrition, and handling of muçuãs must be encouraged to increase production ex situ, providing greater subsidies for the establishment of systems of production that meet commercial demand by promoting conservation and increase of variability of the specie.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2010-09-15) MENDES, Fabrício Lemos de Siqueira; SIMONIAN, Ligia Terezinha Lopes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6620574987436911
This Thesis has as its main theme the biodiversity of the Amazon, but specifically wild animals. Such animals are suffering a decline in their populations, the problems that began with the colonization of Brazil, where the portugueses acquired the of creating wildlife by the Indians lived here. Using data from IBAMA states of and Amazonas was possible to see the wild animals which are more seized institute, to know which animals are most requested by field data collection, individuals in the region, to profile the socio-educational same and which animals being exported to Europe for Portugal. With results tabulated, it was noted seizures by IBAMA in Para state converge to birds and reptiles for Amazonas there is a preference for consumption of mammals in the two states, there schooling in the two state and the birds are animals most sought illegally to export. was concluded that the situation in the two states is of concern as regards the of wild animals and should be given attention and trigger for Public Policy for Amazon region as a whole.

The aim o the present thesis was to develop an efficient vitrification protocol of the ovarian tissue from domestic cat (Felis catus). This study was divided: Phase I: Effect of different basis media during the vitrification of cat ovarian tissue; Phase II: Effect of different sugars (extracellular cryoprotectants) and the vitrification technique for the vitrification of feline ovarian tissue. In phase I, the morphology of preantral follicles was similar (p > 0.05) to fresh control when RPMI-1640 was used as basis medium for vitrification. RPMI-1640 does not contain phenol red, which was found to enhance ethylene glycol (EG) toxicity during vitrification. In phase 2, the percentage of morphologically normal preantral follicles was similar (p > 0.05) to fresh control only when the vitrification medium contained 0.1 or 0.5 M trehalose, instead of sucrose or raffinose at same concentrations. Furthermore, based on parameters such as morphology, cell proliferation and thickness of collagen fibers, it is possibe to assume that efficient vitrification of feline ovarian tissue can be performed by combining trehalose with EG, with or without dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), applying the solid-surface vitrification (SSV) or ovarian tissue cryosystem (OTC) method. Although vitrification with OTC in the presence of EG did not differ from the other treatments, this protocol presented the highest percentages of preserved preantral follicles (56%), being similar to control (64%). Additionally, no effect on gene regulation was observed after vitrification when apoptosis markers (BAX – protein X associated to Bcl-2), endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress (ER protein 29 – ERP29), water channels proteins like aquaporins 3 and 9 (AQP3 and AQP9), the membrane ABC transporters ABCB1 and ABCG2, except when the SSV method was applied using only EG as cryoprotectant followed by seven days in vitro culture, where ERP29 up-regulation (ER stress) and AQP9 down-regulation (impaired water transport) were observed. Based on this, it can be concluded that to efficiently preserve feline ovarian tissue, is is necessary the use of a vitrification protocol free of phenol red, supplemented with trehalose, as extracellular cryoprotectant, and EG alone or in combination with DMSO, as intracellular cryoprotectants. Both open (SSV) and closed (OTC) systems are equaly efficient to maintain follicular survival during the vitrification procedure.
