Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) ''Bailando com o Senhor'': técnicas corporais de culto e louvor (o êxtase e o transe como técnicas corporais)(2003) MAUÉS, Raymundo HeraldoCharismatic Catholic's utilization of the body as instrument of cult and praise, with healing and other techniques, has called so much attention in Brazil. This is reinforced by mass media, especially through the role played by ministers as Father Marcelo Rossi. This fact permits a reflection and a comparative study with other kinds of cult, mainly those with shamanistic characteristics, as rural Amazon pajelança and Afro-Brazilian religions. This article begins with the notion of body techniques, as formulated by Marcel Mauss, and deals with Merleau-Ponty, Pierre Bourdieu and Thomas Csordas concepts. With these theoretical instruments, the article tries to analyze a part of the empirical data collected by the author in a field research among the Charismatic Catholics in the city of Belém and among rural inhabitants (peasants and craft fishermen) of Brazilian Eastern Amazon (coastal region of Pará State), whose mainly religious practice is pajelança and popular Catholicism.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Comunidades "no sentido social da evangelização": CEBs, camponeses e quilombolas na Amazônia Oriental Brasileira(2010) MAUÉS, Raymundo HeraldoThe study about new ecclesial movements in the Roman Catholic Church, in Oriental Brazilian Amazon, has allowed a reflection on the influence of that Church in two rural areas of the State of Pará: the Transamazônica Highway and the Tomé Açu micro-region. In both, the so-called Ecclesial Base Communities, very active, play important role between the populations of these areas. The article proposes to examine the social condition of those people who, according to their experiences and practices, incorporating critically the influence of pastoral agents, take on new identities, and new political and religious practices, not present before in their territory.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) A Mãe e o Filho como peregrinos: dois modelos de peregrinação católica no Brasil(2013-12) MAUÉS, Raymundo HeraldoTwo ways of pilgrimage, observed in two distinct regions of Brazil. In São Paulo, in southeastern Brazil, leading to the city-Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Pirapora, a "particular priest" imitates Christ to load huge cross that he claims to weigh more than 100 kg, on a path of about 60 km. This is done also, every year, by many others, men and women, during Holy Week, from several cities in the region, although they load much less heavy crosses. In Belém do Pará, in the Amazon, many images of our Lady of Nazareth journey through the streets of the city during the weeks immediately before the Círio de Nazaré Catholic Festival, which culminates with an enormous procession, annually, in the month of October. These two ways of pilgrimage are special, because in them whom symbolic walks are not the human pilgrims, but the son of God and his holy mother, which make this pilgrimage being "embodied" or having their images conducted by human pilgrims, of both sexes. This article aims to explore analytically symbolic aspects of these events in the light of anthropological theory, starting from field research (with direct observation) and the available bibliography on the topic. One of the goals is to show that, in the "ethics of the pilgrimage" (Victor Turner), the inventive forms of imagery allow an exchange of roles between the deity and the faithful human subjects that is perfectly suited to this possible grammar of the sacred.
