Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) “Que rufem os tambores”: relato de uma experiência etnográfica em uma banda escolar em Santarém/PA(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-09) SILVA, Renata Souza daThis article was developed from a course taken at the Graduate Program in Society Sciences at the Federal University of Western Pará - UFOPA, where aspects of the ethnographic study and its use in field research, mainly anthropological, were discussed. . It was then that in an attempt to answer the questions: how is the preparation of a school band, both in its technical-musical and social aspect, perceived by the eyes of a third party? What kind of environment does a school band offer its students? What relationships are developed in this environment? This work intends to collaborate with the understanding of this musical segment and with future researchers who are interested in the theme. Therefore, this research proposed to investigate the socio-musical environment of a school band through an ethnographic experience, in which the preparation and rehearsals were accompanied, as well as the performance in the III Concert of the Music Band of Escola Deputado Ubaldo Corrêa in city of Santarém / PA. With this research it became clear the involvement and social meaning that this practice makes possible, and yet, there are aspects that can only be felt if witnessed; aspects that are also difficult to describe, perhaps due to the fact that the “being there” by Geertz (1998), in this case, does not refer to a place, but to a feeling of the atmosphere provided by the moment and the sound.
