    Conseqüências do externalismo behaviorista radical
    (1999-08) TOURINHO, Emmanuel Zagury
Skinner's approach to a science of behavior is discussed with reference to the concept of "externalism" (the search for relations between the organism and external events). Skinner's works, respectively, from 1938, 1953 and 1990, whose discourses deal with different explanations of behavior, are examined in order to emphasize his persistent concern with drawing a clear distinction between behavior analysis and (neuro)physiology. Certain aspects of Skinner's writings, that seem to provide insufficient support for any definitive statement regarding the autonomy of a science of behavior, are highlighted along with resultant difficulties that have arisen in the literature of the field.

Métodos de seleção de pessoal: discussões preliminares sob o enfoque do behaviorismo radical
    (2008) TADAIESKY, Liany Tavares
The goal of personnel selection is to introduce in the organization the applicant that best suits its needs. There is a lack of radical behaviorism literature concerning this subject, resulting in need of research intended to guide attitudes compliant with this theory. This paper discusses the selection methods according to the conceptual prepositions of radical behaviorism. Existing selection methods are analyzed and discussed in terms of increased control of variables present in the selection, in order to proceed to the applicant’s behavioral repertory identification. A job analysis based on behaviorist concepts is proposed. The paper also discusses the possibility of conducting selection interview focused on behavior, as well as the use of simulation techniques that allow behavioral repertory identification. It concludes that theoretical discussions and operational instruments are necessary to the development of a psychological practice in accordance with a behaviorism model of personnel selection.

    A noção de significado em B. F. Skinner e em M. Sidman
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2001) NELSON, Tony; TOURINHO, Emmanuel Zagury; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5960137946576592
Some aspects of the debate about the relationship between Skinner’s approach to verbal behavior and the research in the field of stimulus equivalence are adressed. A description of the conceptions of meaning presented by Skinner and Sidman, in their attempts to generate a behavior-analytic interpretation about language, is provided. Skinner’s and Sidman’s analyses of verbal behavior are examined in terms of their scope; the notions of meaning as controlling variables, and as stimuli equivalence relations are compared; and finally, the role of substitutability in language, its function and limits, is examined. Skinner’s analysis is broader than Sidman’s, in the sense that it tries to embody the totality of verbal behavior. Skinner is different from Sidman, in that the first tries to compare his proposal to the existing theories of language and the second, not. Skinner’s analyses point to meaning as the variables that explain behavior, while Sidman’s analyses, to the meaning as equivalent stimuli. The notion of meaning proposed by Sidman is based in stimuli relations (four-term contingencies, or more than four) and its substitutability (stimulus equivalence). In his conceptualization of verbal behavior, Skinner considers the distinction between functions of speakers and listeners as an important one, while this distinction doesn’t appear in Sidman’s work. Sidman’s analyses of meaning present some aspects that distinguish them from the traditional theories criticized by Skinner; however, the notion of meaning proposed by Sidman remains problematic. The substitutability, as a good basis to interpret meaning, is criticized. Equivalence can be a useful tool to understand language, specially with respect to the production of verbal behavior that is not directly trained, helping to improve verbal behavior analyses.

A produção de conhecimento em Psicologia: a análise do comportamento
    (2003-06) TOURINHO, Emmanuel Zagury
This paper discusses radical behaviorist approach to Psychology as a science of behavior, highlighting three sets of issues: a) the notion of knowledge adopted, particularly in its rejection of logical positivist principles, and its accordance to an instrumental and relational view; b) an interpretation of Psychology as a field of knowledge in which philosophical, scientific and applied contents are articulated; and c) a research program of psychological phenomena based on an externalist view of the subject matter and a selectionist conception of causality. The analysis contrasts radical behaviorism to modern conceptions of men, emphasizing its scope and its critical and innovatory character in Psychology and in culture in general.
