''Bailando com o Senhor'': técnicas corporais de culto e louvor (o êxtase e o transe como técnicas corporais)
    (2003) MAUÉS, Raymundo Heraldo
Charismatic Catholic's utilization of the body as instrument of cult and praise, with healing and other techniques, has called so much attention in Brazil. This is reinforced by mass media, especially through the role played by ministers as Father Marcelo Rossi. This fact permits a reflection and a comparative study with other kinds of cult, mainly those with shamanistic characteristics, as rural Amazon pajelança and Afro-Brazilian religions. This article begins with the notion of body techniques, as formulated by Marcel Mauss, and deals with Merleau-Ponty, Pierre Bourdieu and Thomas Csordas concepts. With these theoretical instruments, the article tries to analyze a part of the empirical data collected by the author in a field research among the Charismatic Catholics in the city of Belém and among rural inhabitants (peasants and craft fishermen) of Brazilian Eastern Amazon (coastal region of Pará State), whose mainly religious practice is pajelança and popular Catholicism.

The study about new ecclesial movements in the Roman Catholic Church, in Oriental Brazilian Amazon, has allowed a reflection on the influence of that Church in two rural areas of the State of Pará: the Transamazônica Highway and the Tomé Açu micro-region. In both, the so-called Ecclesial Base Communities, very active, play important role between the populations of these areas. The article proposes to examine the social condition of those people who, according to their experiences and practices, incorporating critically the influence of pastoral agents, take on new identities, and new political and religious practices, not present before in their territory.

This research investigated about the RCC and its relationship with the ICAR in the context of the Municipality of Castanhal, Pará. In the theoretical framework, we approach as a central axis that the ICAR, since its origins, has had the characteristic of having several movements or sacred territories that form a larger space and this is due to the organization of this institution. There are studies on RCC, however, these studies differ from our approach. It was found as a research question the question of how the arrival of the RCC in the municipality of Castanhal and how (happens) the relations between the ICAR and the RCC, as a general objective we have: to understand the relationship between the RCC and the ICAR in the municipality of Castanhal-PA, as well as in the specific objectives we seek to investigate: identify the view of the clergy in relation to RCC and describe in the view of RCC participants the view they have on the movement. The fact of the growth of the RCC and the space that this movement has occupied within the ICAR motivated us to investigate this theme. This study becomes relevant due to the Catholic and scientific community's need to know better the RCC and its importance for Catholicism, providing the overcoming of possible prejudices. In addition to the literature review, we used fieldwork with interviews with parish priests, diocesan bishop, leaders of the RCC and members of the movement in Castanhal to understand the phenomenon studied. In the results and discussions, we noticed by the clergy a rejection of the denomination of Pentecostal Catholics and a reaffirmation that the RCC is Catholic. Among the conclusions we realize that charismatics see themselves as more authentic Catholics after being part of the movement.

Two ways of pilgrimage, observed in two distinct regions of Brazil. In São Paulo, in southeastern Brazil, leading to the city-Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Pirapora, a "particular priest" imitates Christ to load huge cross that he claims to weigh more than 100 kg, on a path of about 60 km. This is done also, every year, by many others, men and women, during Holy Week, from several cities in the region, although they load much less heavy crosses. In Belém do Pará, in the Amazon, many images of our Lady of Nazareth journey through the streets of the city during the weeks immediately before the Círio de Nazaré Catholic Festival, which culminates with an enormous procession, annually, in the month of October. These two ways of pilgrimage are special, because in them whom symbolic walks are not the human pilgrims, but the son of God and his holy mother, which make this pilgrimage being "embodied" or having their images conducted by human pilgrims, of both sexes. This article aims to explore analytically symbolic aspects of these events in the light of anthropological theory, starting from field research (with direct observation) and the available bibliography on the topic. One of the goals is to show that, in the "ethics of the pilgrimage" (Victor Turner), the inventive forms of imagery allow an exchange of roles between the deity and the faithful human subjects that is perfectly suited to this possible grammar of the sacred.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011) PANTOJA, Vanda Maria Leite; MAUÉS, Raymundo Heraldo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0915136632611666
The presence of Christian evangelicals in the Marajó Region of Integration is not recent; it dates from the turn of the 20th century, but only in the last two decades has there been what may be called an expansion of their presence. This expansion is evident from a statistical analysis of censuses of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE, from 1991 and 2000 and from incursions in the field between 2005 and 2010. The increase in the number of evangelicals in a traditionally Catholic region has mobilized the Catholic Church into improving its performance in the local religious “marketplace”. To understand the fabric of the relationships between Catholics and evangelicals as well as between evangelicals and other evangelicals was the objective proposed in this research project. The field data indicates that the Catholic Church has used the advance of Pentecostalism in the region as an argument to effect some changes within its sphere, particularly in regards to the feasts of the saints, as much in the cities of Marajó as in the capital, Belém do Pará. On the other hand, the evangelicals have been working hard to affirm themselves as a strong religious group, and have concerned themselves, in market terms, much more with their “brothers” of other denominations than with the Catholic Church itself.
