This dissertation analyses the identities of social workers at Vale S.A in the Carajas region, as ideological manifestations in context of a capitalist productive restructuring. The analysis‟ central categories were work, as in Marx‟s conception and ideology, as in Gramsci‟s conception. The logic of the capitalism, that leads to the alienation and manipulation of the worker‟s subjectivity, induces professionals to absorb uncritically of the common sense, the representation of the hegemony, which manifest implicity in the language and behaviors of professional. The research‟s subjects were social workers at Vale, working in units located in the Carajas region, southeastern Para, since it is a transnacional firm with strong influence in the Amazon region. Currently, municipalities in the Carajas region have their social, economic and political development linked to the firm‟s activities. The research‟s hypothesis was that the Vale‟s social worker‟s identities, in a productive restructuring context, are topsy-turvy identities that contribute to mystifying and reductionist practices, that reproduce capitalistic interests. The empirical research used a time-frame from 2007 to the present days. The results showed that in their professional exercise, Vale‟s social workers experience the inevitable contradictions, both of Vale‟s implementations in the region and those related with the development of Social Work, which contributes more to strengthen a capitalistic hegemony than to strengthen the ethical-political-professional project of the Social Work. The analysis of the correlation of forces present in this professional workspace, constitutes, not only, a objective of discussion and reflection on the challenges involved but also of the objective possibilities that can be identified imbedded in the discourses of the social workers.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2012-05-11) SOUSA, Raimundo Valdomiro de; CASTRO, Edna Maria Ramos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4702941668727146
This work has as its theme “the influence of the State in the economic growth of the mining sector: the case of the CVRD from 1942 to 2010”. In order to guide this research and the construction of its thesis, the following problems were established: which changes occurred in the legal and institutional plan, in Brazil and in Pará, since 1990, that could be interpreted as part of the constitution process of a new regime of accumulation and how those changes are related to the privatization process and to the mining growth under the CVRD or Vale management? As March theoretical, worked with the categories of analysis regime of accumulation and mode of regulation, considering the contributions of Lipetz (1988) and Harvey (1998) called the regulation school. The objective was to understand the changes in the economy and in the legislation, in Pará and in Brazil, as a transition from the scheme of accumulation and mode of regulation Fordist-Keynesiano to a new scheme called flexible accumulation. Was selected a set of events to be analyzed as part of the transition mode of regulation: -Economic stabilization plan; -Constitutional Reform (1995); -Complementary Law nº 87/96 (Law Kandir); -Provisional Measure nº 2166/67 which created the concept of works of public utility; -Conama Resolution nº 369 on Mining Permanent Preservation Area; -Fiscal Responsibility Law; -Port Modernization Law. Other events were selected and analyzed as part of a new regime of accumulation: Public investment in construction of the infrastructure of transport and energy;-privatization in Brazil, including CVRD and its subsequent expansion, along with economic growth of the mining sector. It was concluded that, with influence of the state for the stabilization of a new regime of accumulation, which deepens the profile primary export economy in the Pará. In 2010, when the mining sector contributed 86% of total exports, this the total mining industry participated with 77% and the transformation industry with 23%. In the period 2002 to 2007, the mining industry participated with 60% and the transformation industry with 40% of exports. The CVRD or Vale, in Para, since 2010, has prioritized the export of primary products, particularly iron ore, reducing its participation in the transformation industry through the transfer to Norsk Hidro of its actions in the Albras, Alunorte and Companhia de Alumína do Pará.

Políticas empresariais “sociais” implementadas em comunidades atingidas por projetos minerometalúrgicos no estado do Pará
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-09-18) RODRIGUES, Giselle Viegas Dantas; MATHIS, Adriana de Azevedo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4097998262711403
This research aims to analyze the “social” corporate policies implemented in communities affected by mining-metallurgical projects. Its main objective is to identify how policies are structured, what communication strategies are used, and what are the socio-environmental impacts caused in affected communities. Critical social theory was used to analyze the data and information obtained, which involved mining companies from the three mesoregions that make up the state of Pará. In the empirical research, representatives of communities, government, corporate companies and private organizations were interviewed using the following methodological tools: on-site observation/interviews, field diary, writing and transcription of interviews, analysis and systematization of interviews, and essay writing. The main results of the research indicate that the "socially responsible" stance affirmed by the corporate companies is based on the need to create consensuses in the communities, to reduce local poverty and to establish the legitimacy of the company over the territory; and also that strategic communication methodologies have influenced the way of thinking and acting of those affected by the mining and the professionals involved, due to the existence of life conditions materialized in everyday life and create illusory concepts to explain the reality of those who suffer the socio-environmental impacts of mining-metallurgical projects. In addittion, it is concluded that despite the economic growth generated by mining and the investment in “social” corporate policies to mitigate socio-environmental impacts in the cities surveyed the communities affected by mining-metallurgical projects continue to suffer from violations of rights and intensification of social, political, economic, cultural, territorial and labor inequalities.
