(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-12-19) SANTOS, Carlos Eduardo dos Santos e; PETIT PEÑARROCHA, Pedro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1981202733448583; COSTA, Antonio Maurício Dias da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2563255308649361
This work discusses the perceptions of the population of Belém on the period of the military regime of 1964, focusing on the military segment: Graduates of Military Aeronautics. We seek to understand the experience of everyday life in the state capital in the period 1964-1985. It manifests itself beyond politics and economics, depicting aspects of the company relating to work, leisure and private life, in which the different situations and instances are experienced and acquire different meanings and senses in the day-to-day. We aim to understand the meanings attributed by the military to their daily activities, whether at the institutional level or in the middle calendar. We use this insight to the documentation (photographic records, newsletters, posters) of the First Regional Air Command headquartered in Belém (I COMAR), and systematic interviews of military personnel and their families. These two spheres - Civil-Military - are focused on crossing their experiences in the civil, may have a direct or indirect relation with the political, economic and social aspects of the military regime.

A formação da ARENA e do MDB paraenses: cultura política e Ditadura Militar na Amazônia (1964 – 1970)
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2023-12-14) MATOS, Flávio William Brito; FONTES, Edilza Joana Oliveira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9447513031256372
The objective of this master’s thesis is to understand – based on party political trajectories – how the political frameworks of the National Renewal Alliance (ARENA) and the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) were formed and constituted in Pará. Two axes guide the analysis of this trajectory: the concept of political culture used by historian Rodrigo Motta and the discourse on the locus where this political action takes place, the Amazon. The time frame of the research begins with the collapse of the democratic government in 1964, still in a multi-party environment, and ceases with the effects of Institutional Act Number 5 (AI-5), the moment in which the closure of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pará (ALEPA) was decreed. A wide range of written and oral documentary sources were used, particularly the Annals of the Legislative Assembly, the Arthur Viana Public Library newspapers, and information from the National Information Service now retained in the National Archives. As conclusions of this work, the continuity in political arrangements before and after the military coup is highlighted, even on the part of militaries who were theoretically newcomers to politics. The role of the political class in building social consensus around Military Governments stands out. And, finally, the hypothesis of the discourse on the Amazon as a mechanism of understanding negotiations and political accommodations within the state is presented.

This doctoral thesis explores the remarkable political trajectory of Iza Cunha, a pivotal figure in the resistance against the Military Dictatorship in Brazil and a staunch advocate for human rights, particularly focusing on women and gender issues in the Amazon region. The Military Dictatorship, spanning from 1964 to 1985, marked a dark period in Brazilian history characterized by political repression, censorship, and human rights violations. Iza Cunha emerged as a courageous voice opposing this authoritarian regime, mobilizing for democracy, social justice, and gender equality. This thesis examines key moments in Iza Cunha's political journey, from her involvement in student movements during the dictatorship's oppressive years to her leadership role in post-dictatorship popular movements in the Amazon. Through an in-depth analysis of her speeches, writings, and political actions, it seeks to understand how Iza Cunha articulated her resistance against the dictatorship with her advocacy for women's rights and gender equality in the Amazon. Furthermore, the thesis investigates specific challenges faced by women in the Amazon region, including gender-based violence, economic exploitation, and political marginalization. Emphasizing Iza Cunha's role in promoting women's political participation, combating gender discrimination, and ensuring rights, emancipation, and access to basic services such as health and education, this work also evaluates her legacy and relevance to contemporary debates on democracy, human rights, women, and gender in the Amazon. By acknowledging her historical contributions and ongoing struggle, it aims to inspire new generations to emulate her example of resilience and commitment to social justice and gender equality within and beyond the Amazon region.
