Dinâmica socioeconômica e desmatamento na Amazônia

This text shows the importance to understanding the rationality of actors and the motivation, both of individuals and groups, which show the main causes of the advance of the economic activities and of deforestation. This is revealed in the analysis of socio-spatial strategies and the main social actors and economic agents present in new frontier areas. It reveals the present mechanisms in the relation between the interests of the economic agents and the political processes. It examines how networks are built to integrate the local and the globe, defining the tendencies to the globalized market action in the region.

Fishery it is a very important economic activity to North Region and the main activity of Vigia de Nazaré municipal. This research analyses the contribution of this sector to local development throughout increases in the employment and income. Therefore, the paper analyses the performance of fishing industry that in Vigias case is led by a firm who conducts innovation in the fish processing and final products. Moreover, analyses the way public policies, private sector and organizations together are converging to build up a favorable environment to develop new fishing structures and its extensions to local development. The presence of innovative agents and the institutional arrangement that we see in the municipal are original in the State. Thus, deepen the subject as it was study in this dissertation became important.

Parceiros no crime: o regatão e a resistência cabocla na Amazônia tradicional

O texto resgata a história do "regatão" que é um comerciante ambulante que viaja entre centros regionais e comunidades amazônicas, comercializando mercadorias para pequenos produtores caboclos e comerciantes do interior em troca de "produtos regionais" agrícolas e extrativistas. É examinado neste trabalho o papel do regatão no desenvolvimento da economia regional amazônica, concentrando-se na relação entre o regatão e o caboclo, especialmente na ação do regatão na resistência cabocla. O trabalho é dividido em quatro partes. A primeira parte examina o sistema de aviamento, a segunda descreve o papel do regatão dentro dele, a terceira analisa a relação entre o regatão e a resistência cabocla no contexto do sistema de aviamento e a quarta, a evolução do papel do regatão até o presente.

As políticas federais e reconfigurações espaciais na Amazônia

This paper analyzes the social and spatial repercussions of federal policies designed for the Brazilian Eastern Amazon region, in the 20th century. Initially, the paper examines the attempts to re-establish, at a regional level, the dynamics of the rubber production. The new policies developed implemented after the military coup of 1964 and the new policies for the region, adopted after the military regime, as well as the new institutional approach are also analyzed. We conclude with distribution of federal policies in two large groups, according to their efficiency of state intervention in the development processes, and another based in the efficiency of the market forces.
