This study aimed to discuss and analyze the impact of the activities of the medium phenomenal Anna Prado during the years 1918-1923, its importance in the popularization of Spiritualism and the fierce debates motivated by the phenomena. To ground the discussion and analysis, we evaluate the bibliography on spiritualism and psychic Anna Prado, newspaper articles which are occupied in disseminating and discussing the phenomena and the role of the literate elite to expose their beliefs about the phenomena contributing to the production of more a specific interpretation on the psychic events.

O corpo da alma: cosmos, casa e corpo espírita kardecista

The object of this study is to understand and highlight the role of the body in religious field by investing in an analysis of brazilian kardecist spiritual embodiment, which is constructed by social representations and imaginary. The analytical effort and the distribution of the chapters are based on the schema macro/microscopic – “Cosmos-house-body”. The first part deals with the construction of kardecism by its encoder, the French intellectual Hippolyte Rivail, known as Alan Kardec (Paris, 1804-1869), and its pretensions to unify “science, philosophy and religion”, producing a Cosmos. The second part presents the Spiritist Centre as a sacred space of its ritual universe. The third and last part is focused on the “body”, as semantic referential, which appears too as heuristic tool for analysis. Analyzing the conceptions and imaginary over the body in Kardecism, this work proposes that relations between the spiritual world, the Spiritist Centre and the body are crucial for understanding the spiritist person.

O fantástico caso da médium Anna Prado nas páginas dos jornais paraenses no alvorecer do século XX

In this dissertation, we seek to explore the narratives of newspapers from Pará in the years 1918-1920 which had as main character a medium named Anna Rebello Prado. News that were a cause of astonishment for readers and annoyance for the Catholic Church because the medium gained allies and critics by allowing press coverage of her deeds, especially the materialization of spirits, and showing how journalism easily surrendered to the fantastic and unusual, at the dawn of the 20th century in the city of Belém do Pará. The objective of the research is to see the journalistic coverage of fantastic elements, such as the medium and her powers, and its acceptance by journalism as important components of reality the social and history of a community. To understand these aspects, we will also conduct a study on Belém in the 1920s, and who were the main characters of the intriguing medium that aroused the curiosity and attention of daily newspaper readers in Belém.
