Ação coletiva sob influência da dendeicultura: um estudo de caso sobre a Central das Organizações Sociais entre os rios Guamá e Capim (CONSERGC)
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2019) BALIEIRO, Marciclei Lopes; SCHMITZ, Heribert
I analyze the experience of formal organization of family farmers integrated with oil palm in the Central of Social Organizations between the Guamá and Capim Rivers (CONSERGC). The central category of research is collective action in rural areas. I use Mancur Olson's theory of economics and the contributions of the French school of sociology of organizations to understand how cooperation is being built from the actions of the actors involved. The participation and management categories also stand out during the project, which is why I highlight the process of building self-management. Data were collected between June 2017 and February 2019, using a script, the methodology was based mainly on open interviews with the application of a semi-structured questionnaire and direct observation. I also conducted a literature review on the theme addressed in this work and did a documentary research with relevant data on the object of study. I present the context in which CONSERGC was proposed and created. I identify and characterize how the mobilization of farmers and leaders took place based on the performance of organizations such as the local STTRs, FETAGRI and, above all, the ADM company for integration in the oil palm project and for the organization as an association. Despite the difficulties that accompany the trajectory of the formal organization in the Northeast of Pará (credit, technical assistance, income, management, among others), the initiative is seen by most farmers as an opportunity. The possibility of organizing production, accessing some financing or project and improving family income were pointed out by the interviewees as important factors for engaging in associations. The organization presents difficulties that were identified in the research, among them: the lack of resources to develop its economic, social and logistical activities to gather members. However, the data showed that for the short time that CONSERGC has existed, the organization's associative proposal is in promising development. This finding makes reference: the performance of its board and its leaders, who have found solutions to the recurring difficulties; the trust of associates in their managers and the good level of participation of associates in meetings and meetings that, even by representation, assume an important role in the organization's operating strategies. The participation and construction of the action based on game of interests, they were negotiated within the organization and have been important for the continuity of the collective action analyzed here. Among the results of the research clipping, it is concluded that the interest of Integrated Associations in affiliating with a Central of Associations is related, in principle, to the mobilization and incentive given by ADM company for the creation of organizations. Subsequently, CONSERGC was seen by the associates as a facilitator of the dialogue with the company and, among the advantages, a means to obtain improvements in the integration contract. Empirical data revealed that few farmers read the contract in its entirety and, through CONSERGC's performance, they are being able to review some contractual clauses of paramount importance to their interests within the palm project such as in relation to price and price. weight of the product, these being the items most cited by the integrated. Despite being a specific case study, this work can c

The research was done with the objective of identifying and analysing the needs, demands and uses of information from partner farmers of the research project, “Adaptation and participative validity of an area preparation without burning in northern Pará”, developed in the cities of Igarapé-Açu and Marapanim, by Embrapa, in the communication process and information for action. Based on interviews and observations, it was outlined the prolife of partner farmers and opinion makers and identified their demands of information, being the most significative ones related to agriculture (cultivation, deseases, pests, financing/agricultural credit), followed by information on Education, Social Security, Law etc. The concept of information was constructed from the interviewd perceptions and were studied, still, participative actions developed by the project, means of mass communication of wider audience; besides support and information barriers. Among the social and institutional actors acting in the process, there is strong participation of relatives neighboring farmers, as a source of information for the communities and, among the several institutions, and Embrapa. Through the application of the technique of the critical incident the search of more recent information was analyzed, when agriculturist partners had needed information to develop their activities, if they had gotten it or not, and what this caused in their activities in familiar agriculture and their lives.

In Santa Luzia community, in the municipality of Tomé-Açu, as in the Northeast Pará, there is nowadays a process of change among crops, involving slash and burn systems in the pasture establishment or subsistence crops, for the implementation of agroforestry systems, as a way to diversify production and get better income and new ways to market their organic products. As the marketing and processing of production are considered obstacles in family farming, this research identifies and analyzes the importance of the organization in these processes in Santa Luzia community through the characterization of the association, describing and evaluating the processing and the marketing of the household production, determining the economic, social and environmental changes in the community to add value to the products of agroforestry systems. Visits were conducted with questionnaires to all members of the association, forming a sample of 21 production units, allowing a socio-economic study on the family units, in addition to using descriptive statistical methods and multivariate statistics through factorial analysis and Cluster Analysis, which allowed us to evaluate the size of the data in relation to the variables that determine the agroforestry systems and the marketing process. The results indicate that 95% of the families interviewed have agroforestry systems with a large crops diversification and 95% perform some kind of processing in their products (71% of the production),which provided new market opportunities and better prices, obtaining an average annual revenue of R$ 22.241,35, ensuring them, better economic and social conditions, which allows us to conclude that the organization and production agroindustrialization promoted better marketing and higher production income in the community of Santa Luzia.

(Brazilian Journals Publicações de Periódicos e Editora Ltda, 2020-09) GARCIA, Waldilene do Carmo; FENZL, Norbert
The production of fertilizer through composting is an effective way to reduce the expense that the small producer has to grow agricultural products, however, the quality of this compost is an essential advantage for the production to have good quality, the environmental issue is also an issue. Strong reason to reuse organic waste and thus help in the ecosystem balance of nature. From that, one of the reasons for developing this research is the need that family farmers have to buy fertilizer monthly, which ends up compromising the economic profitability of some producers, however, the main objective of this work was to produce fertilizer and raise awareness. To properly dispose of organic waste. The research was based on the community of Camurituba-Beira in the municipality of Abaetetuba-Pá, where eight farmers participated, through official theory and practice in the production of fertilizer, with the socioeconomic survey as an instrument of data collection. The results obtained were 90 kg of fertilizer being tested in some crops to check the quality, in addition, the survey showed that the production of fertilizer by farmers can reduce the expenses with the purchase of this compost. Therefore, the research had socio-environmental relevance, since it worked to raise awareness of the correct disposal of waste, as well as pointing out a possible solution for reducing the purchase of fertilizer.

The indiscriminate use of fire has become a global problem due to the increase of the incidence and severity of fires, mainly related to climate change. The Brazilian Amazon was a fire-free biome, but it has experienced more frequent and intense fires. The use and management of fire is historical and quite variable, especially in the practice of agriculture. Therefore, it is proposed in this dissertation to evaluate the use and management of fire by different farmers (smallholders and large farmers) in two different regions in the Eastern Amazon. Data collection was carried out in 2010 by the Sustainable Amazon Network (RAS) and in 500 rural properties in the region, distributed in 18 watersheds in each region. To compare the diversity of fire use and management practices among producers and regions, the PERMANOVA analysis was used. In both regions, the use of fire predominated, and family farmers were those who had greater use. However, the use of fire was also carried out by larger farmers. The two main purposes were to prepare the land before implementing agriculture and to manage degraded pastures. Secondary forests or Capoeiras (<20 years) were the most commonly used vegetation type, although primary forests and older capoeiras were also used. Most farmers built firebreaks and burnt against the wind, but also used fire in the hottest period of the day (between 12h-15h) and before the first rains in the region. At the time of the burning, farmers in both regions received human assistance, which occurs predominantly by people from the property itself. This dominant use of fire in the Amazon reflects the pattern observed in different tropical regions, mainly related to shifting agriculture. There was also an incompatibility between the management carried out by the farmers and that recommended by specialists or by the law. The need to adapt Brazilian law regarding local burning practices is emerging, as it can make this practice unfeasible. This study is expected to contribute to the development of norms for the use and management of fire that are better adapted to the specific realities of each region and each producer.

The article discusses the valorization of the knowledge of farmers and family farmers in the conception of differentiated approaches in science teaching in schools in the countryside. For this, we studied the equipment used by farmers in the production of cassava flour as the levers and identified the mechanisms of the presses. Participant observation and semi-structured and open interviews were conducted with three families in the municipality of Senador José Porfírio, Pará. From the ethnophysics approach, it was found that they construct the presses manually, adapt and improve the operation of the levers, according to the progress of their activities. This traditional knowledge is passed down from generation to generation, via orality, observations and lived experiences. Farmers explain the mechanisms in such a way that they relate the objective to be achieved and the effort to be spared by choosing the dimensions, shape and types of materials for the construction of the press, without having theoretical knowledge of physics. This knowledge can be used in science classes, from observation and interviews to parents or community, made by the students themselves, making the detection of the lever mechanism in various equipment, tools or movements of daily life, identifying the forces involved and how it could improve them.

Fatores de adoção de sistemas agroflorestais por agricultores familiares de Cametá-PA
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2020-08-31) NUNES, Diene do Espírito Santo; SABLAYROLLES, Maria das Graças Pires; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0250972497887101; KATO, Osvaldo Ryohei; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4241891652832872; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2422-9227
Agroforestry systems present themselves as powerful traditional land-use systems, which their adoption can contribute to the reduction of socioeconomic and environmental vulnerability in family farming. Thus, the presente work aimed to analyze the factors that lead to the adoption of Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) by family farmers in the floodplain, and firm ground areas in forest Menino Jesus community, in the municipality of Cametá-Pa. For this purpose, we used the case study method with a participatory approach, divided into two stages. In the first, it was used the participant observation and snowball technique, and in the second, a landscape analysis and the application of semi-structured questionnaires with 21 farmers. For the analysis of the collected data, graphs and tables, and the content analysis technique were used, which identified in the results the main factors that lead to the adoption of SAFs in the floodplain, and firm ground areas in the socioeconomic, socio-organizational, environmental, and cultural subcategories. In socioeconomic terms, the main factors were income generation and variety of production throughout the year. In sociorganizationals, land relations gender and exchanges and sharing of experiences external and internal to the community. In the environmental and cultural terms, it stood out as factores, the ecological benefits of the system, recovery of degraded áreas and the experiences derived from traditional background, and knowledge. The results also showed that the floodplain SAFs are managed from açaí groves, with native forest species, whereas the firm ground species arise from the extensions of the diversity, and logic of the agroforestry yards to the monoculture areas, in the recovery of degraded areas. The farming families that adopt SAFs have their origins in the municipality of Cametá, which demonstrates traditional agriculture. It was concluded that the main factor of adoption is the diversity of production throughout the year in the floodplain and firm ground areas, which provide food security and socioeconomic benefits to farmers. And these SAFs are adopted based on traditional knowledge and daily experiences of use and management of these environments, according to the needs of the productive and family establishment.

This dissertation had as general objective to analyze the process of consolidation of the Feira da Agricultura Familiar of UFPA-Belém and impacts on the logics of production of the families that participate in it. In addition to this focus, reflections are presented on the process of building new markets adapted to the reality of family farming, inserted in the dynamics of the Short Circuits of Commercialization (CCC). The research focuses on a qualitative approach, with procedures focused on case studies. Data collection took place through interviews, with the help of scripts, carried out with ten families in the fair environment and in family establishments in different territories of the state. In general, the results show that the fair was instituted based on the demand of family farmers who do not participate in public calls for institutional purchases and the process of inclusion in the project occurs in a disorderly way. The families come from fourteen municipalities in the Northeast of Pará and the metropolitan region of Belém, and are mostly represented by women who play an important role in the fair. Inserted in different social organizations, families create bonds, establish partnerships with the university and capture benefits for the development of activities in the field. The UFPA fair is interpreted by some families as a commercial opportunity, creation of institutional links, exchange of knowledge and knowledge between participants, as well as an environment to give visibility to food and agroecological products. From the characterization of agroecosystems, it was found that the UFPA fair has had an impact on family production logics in different ways, em alguns casos ocorre o processo de ampliação e diversificação dos arranjos produtivos impulsionados pela intensificação das vendas e a demanda por novos produtos, em outros a feira causou um efeito de baixo impacto na lógica socioprodutiva das famílias.

This thesis on marketing in the family farming fair circuit of Marabá, in the southeast of Pará. The objective was to analyze the contribution of the role of fairs to establishing material living conditions for rural families of farmers and strengthening peasant activity in this part of the Amazon territory. The research sought to identify and learn about the two fairs studied and how the development of the lower food marketing circuit works, seeking to understand the social and economic characteristics developed by family farmers. In this aspect, the settlement responsible for the majority of food production that is sold at the city's main fairs was studied, as well as its importance in the flow of food. As a methodological aspect, the starting point is part of a broad bibliographical and documentary research on the struggles of rural workers for land in the 1970s, the year in which the city's main fairs were created. The field research offered necessary tools that made it possible to collect information through semi-structured interviews, where families of farmers, market traders and consumers at the fairs were interviewed. As a result, it is possible to point out that the forms of commercialization at fairs contribute to maintaining the material living conditions of family farmers, strengthening the struggles of rural workers and protecting the environment with family agricultural production, and with commercialization, the gains Monetary funds return to city commerce when purchasing building materials, household appliances, accessories, among others, in stores. It is observed that production in the Alegria Settlement contributes beneficially to the maintenance of ecosystems and biodiversity, and that there, much of the food produced is used to sell the main fairs in the city of Marabá.

The rural settlements have become one of the main elements of rural areas in the Legal Ama zon, representing almost a third of used land and almost 74% of rural establishments. The State of Pará concentrates the largest number of settled families in the country, with more than 30% of its area covered by settlements. On the other hand, from a historical point of view, it has been one of the states that most deforests in the region. In the search for effective rural development, it is essential to think about feasi ble and viable productive alternatives that avoid the exodus of small farmers from rural areas, making it necessary to develop and make viable family farming in Pará. One of the practical manifestations of the association of agrarian reform to the environmental issue began with the creation of the settlement model called the Sustainable Development Project (PDS). Thus, the main objective of this article is to analyze the importance of the Sustainable Development Project (PDS) in the municipality of Altamira, Pará, with emphasis on the development of the Brasília PDS, verifying its effectiveness in reconciling productive activity and respect for the environment. The main conclusion is that in relation to PDS Brasília, there is a need for articulation between the actors involved – settlers, public authorities, non-governmental organizations –, which can make it possible to raise awareness of the new necessary production practices, as well as technical support. - financial compatible with the reality of this type of project, thus aiming at sustainable local development.

This research presents the analysis and understanding of the different strategies of Food and Nutritional Security - SAN developed by the families of the Quilombola Community of Baixo Acaraqui, city of Abaetetuba, Pará. The community is facing changes in their eating habits due of the reduction of natural resources (hunting animals, fishes and shrimps), decreasing of the area for agricultural production, increase of the commercial value of production and increase on spending at manufactured goods. From a qualitative approach and using the following procedures: participant observation, semi-structured interviews and photographic record, free list and workshops on eating habits. We sought, through the integration between the researcher and the social group in question, to appropriate of some information to enable an understanding about the community and their production and food practices. Among the practices developed by families, we observed: a) increase of the production for the marketing, reducing the diversity of local production, reducing the self-sufficiency of families and making production unstable in the face of fluctuations of the local market; b) increasing in the importance of extraction of açaí as an economic factor of income generator; c) increasing the hardship in acquiring locally produced foods (fishes, shrimps, hunting animals); d) Substitution of natural products (natural juices, teas) for industrial products (coffee, soda) by raising spending on food and the need to generate income; e) the increase in purchasing power, stimulated both by the increase of the marketing and the social benefits received (bolsa família, aposentadoria and seguro defeso), encouraged the replacement of local production of some products (rice and beans) for your purchase on local businesses. This reality has significantly influenced the production practices and eating habits of the families of the Quilombola Community of Baixo Acaraqui, influencing in production decisions and in the acquisition of food, making families increasingly dependent on trade and income generation to ensuring the food and nutritional security of the quilombola families.

The management of the açaí stem is done with the objective of increase fruit production and is given by the elimination of the little productive stems or surpluses stems, as well as others of their surroundings, for the purpose of reduce ecological competition for water, light and nutrients. The objective of the research was to contribute with the sustainable management of acai from the study of the relation between the different forms of management and the production of fruits. The study was carried out in three management parcels adopted in an area of one producer selected from among the 6 producers visited in the community of Manoel Raimundo, district of Janua Coeli in the municipality of Cametá, the case, therefore, of an establishment in peasant environment. From a qualitative and quantitative approach, as well as methodological procedures such as: observation and analysis of the landscape, interviews, forms and semi-random sampling it was possible to identify and select the management parcels through different management modes in relation to plant density control practices due to the thinning of stems in the acai plant, the elimination or thinning of the accompanying vegetation. Considering the management history of the parcels they were taken as treatment and called: Parcel 1 (Farmer management), Parcel 2 (Management of technical guidance) and Parcel 3 (Extractivism). Inside of each of them were demarcated with pickets three subparcels with dimensions of 6 m x 12 m each that corresponded the repetitions of the experiment. They were incurred samples to characterize the plant population morphologically through the indicators: number of açai palm per area, number of stems per plant of açai palm, number of bunches per stem, number of rachis per bunch, number of fruit per rachis and fruit weight. The data collected at the sites refer to the accompanying plants, the acai plants, pH and soil moisture. The results showed high variability of the indicators studied in the parcels and in the repetitions. Besides that, three forms of thinning of stems were identified, being classified as light, strong and without thinning. The research concludes that there is a thinning intensity in açaí plants in floodplain areas which results in a rhythm of production proportional to the control of thinning of stems and points to management as the main factor of fruit yield.

(Revistas Brasileiras Publicações de Periódicos e Editora Ltda., 2022-05) COSTA, Karolinny Carneiro Guerra; MANESCHY, Rosana Quaresma; QUEIROZ, Jaqueline Fontel de; MELLO, Andréa Hentz de
The objective was to systematize the agroecological practices designed and tested to mitigate environmental impacts in Southeast Pará, as well as the contribution of the Federal University of Pará in the construction of agroecological knowledge in the region. The research had a qualitative approach, based on the analysis of bibliographic and documentary material. It was found the existence of teaching, research and development activities using a participatory approach and/or action research methodology in rural settlements. Projects carried out in partnership with family farmers have designed local technical references, enabling the mitigation of environmental impacts and supporting the development of public policies suited to the reality of production systems in this social category.

This article is about the new patterns of migration among farmer families in the eastern Amazon. These patterns were commonly framed as a strategy of social mobility, where moving was a way to acquire land. However, recent studies have shown that migration drivers are evolving because of social modernization and the rise of educational standards. While farmer families’ new strategies are well known, such as investing in education and moving to cities, little attention has been given to their quantification. By examining three “projetos de assentamento” (settlement projects) in the eastern Amazon, we wish to highlight the diversity of strategies that are used, and examine the way they relate to existing geographical and social settings.

Women play a crucial role in family farming but face profound challenges such as lack of recognition for their work, gender discrimination, and limited access to resources. Moreover, they suffer disproportionately from the depletion of natural resources, further aggravating political oppression and exclusion. This work investigates how women family farmers in Northeast Pará contribute to nature preservation and local development, and how social movements strengthen this connection, combating gender inequality and promoting women's empowerment through organizations like the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) and the Northeast Pará Women's Movement (MMNEPA). The study is divided into three chapters and aims to understand the connections between the work of family farmers and nature preservation, analyzing the actions of women's social movements and their contributions to local development, sustainable resource management, and the fight against gender inequality. The specific objectives include understanding the relationship between family farmers and nature in Northeast Pará by identifying issues, productive activities, and gender dynamics; identifying mobilization strategies to access publics politicals related to the productive activities developed by MST and MMNEPA women farmers; and developing a socio-political environmental diagnosis to assist farmer movements in systematically understanding their activities. To achieve these objectives, qualitative research with literature, bibliographic, and documentary review was used as the methodology. Field research was also conducted at meetings, mobilizations, marches, and fairs organized by the farmers. Additionally, interviews with 25 women farmers were conducted, and a participatory mapping workshop was held at the Abril Vermelho settlement project. From this, a systematization of the main issues claimed by the groups was obtained, along with a survey of the social profile and production of the farmers, and the development of two participatory maps.

“ Roçado vira capoeira! ”: dinâmica das práticas agrícolas de tiradores de açaí no município de Afuá – Pará

This dissertation describes and analyzes, through a case study, agricultural and extractive practices performed by riverine communities in the Queimada Island, in the municipality of Afuá, State of Pará, Brazil. The objective is to understand and highlight the articulation of riverine family farming and management of natural resources, through which they seek their physical and social reproduction as Amazonian autonomous peasant communities. We studied three family units of production, whose practices on their small agricultural fields and extractive activities on açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.), express local economic rules, which co- exist within hegemonic market economy. Participant and direct observation and open-ended interviews during their daily activities allowed us to record the history of the areas and gave us details about their productive decision-making processes. We also examined the historical and geographical contexts and the social relationships within and among the studied households. The intensification of market demands for açaí promoted not only interference on families’ relations to land, but also on the natural resource management. Despite these interferences, the articulation of farming and extractive activities promoted the diversification of their agricultural slash-and-burn fields, with varied combination of species throughout the seasons. Above all, the results show that, although extraction of açaí became more visible due to regional, national and international market demands, many less visible agricultural practices also ensure the autonomy of this Amazonian peasants community.
