Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Cidade de Belém e natureza: uma relação problemática?(Núcleo de Altos Estudos Amazônicos, 2010-07) LOUREIRO, Violeta Refkalefsky; BARBOSA, Estêvão José da SilvaIn an unstoppable and rapid manner, Belém is losing it’s urban green. This loss presents itself with unique characteristics when compared to other Brazilian cities, that equally suffer from the urban speculation and the chaotic occupancy of the land. The mango trees – witch are listed as part of the State’s patrimony as common goods and must be permanently preserved – are actually the most endangered species, no longer characterizing Belém as the mango tree’s city. Besides, differently from the other capitals, where the private sector has been the most res ponsible for the environment damage, in Belém, actions and omissions of the government to the city are more important to the deterioration of the urban landscape, it’s green areas and waters than the private sector.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) As formas de morar na Belém da Belle-époque (1870-1910)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2008) SOARES, Karol Gillet; COELHO, Geraldo Mártires; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5007416707293009By the mid-19th Century the capital of the State of Pará started being affected by the first urban transformations resulting from the richness brought in by the extraction of rubber. Beginning with the expansion of the rubber economy in 1870, this conjuncture allowed for interventions and improvements based on the ideals of modernity, progress and civilization introduced by the public authority in the construction of a modern Belém: this period extends up to the end of the rubber cycle, around 1910. When evoking the architecture of the period under study, as seen by common sense, one should stress the great legacy of the rubber cycle, reflected in a process set in riches and opportunities in which houses were built according to imported, European standards of modernity and became the very symbol of that modernity. Then again, there were also houses that threatened the project of urban modernization created for a New Belém, which prompted the creation of some guidelines and measures in order to prevent or remove those non-conforming abodes, forcing their dwellers to live in the outskirts of the city. Thus, we realize this context allowed for the building of new and different kinds of dwelling, in which the dwellers’ resources would be evidenced by the architectural division of their houses, both bourgeois and popular – two extremes between which the forms of habitation in the Belle Époque in Belém could be defined. Thus the house becomes an important document for the understanding of the influence of external effects – economical, social, technical, cultural, related to public policies, artistic, spatial and others – on its construction. The greatest challenge of this paper is to reveal the habitational diversity found in the different forms of dwelling in the period in question.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Paisagens urbanas: fotografia e modernidade na cidade de Belém (1846-1908)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-10-27) PEREIRA, Rosa Claudia Cerqueira; SARGES, Maria de Nazaré dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2076421409418420Paisagens Urbanas: fotografia e modernidade na cidade de Belém (1846-1908) considers a quarrel on the photographic documents that served of instruments of propaganda of the governing in the last decade of century XIX and in the beginning of century XX. The documentary of this study show the form as the individuals if they had made to represent in the urban scenes, giving visibility to the social types that had been photographed subtle by the cameras the service of the propaganda of the government. Objective to divulge a city modern, disclosing the intensity and the rapidity with that it desired to reach modernity, at the same time where a modern city brings the light in accordance with the models proceeding from the Europe, the register of a other city is perceived that in it sends the spaces of connivance of different realities. The photographic image, as well as other visual sources and objects, consists in important instruments of historical inquiry to identify to new objects and new problems. The contribution of this study if anchors in the use of the photograph as main document of analysis for historiography production, understanding that the photograph represents a certification that "speaks" of the past in the intensity that the historian questions it. This study it search to analyze the relation between photograph and city from the visual narrative of the albums and reports of Belém that had been produced in the period of 1898 the 1908. The interpretation of the albums, while narrative that visualizes a city modern, I consisted in one of the methodological strategies for boarding of the use of the photograph as document for the historian, considering that in this type of documentation it can show given dispersed or exactly silenced for other sources of research.
