Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Brazilian migration to Guyana as livelihood strategy: a case study approach(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2007-07-13) CORBIN, Hisakhana Pahoona; ARAGÓN VACA, Luis Eduardo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2713210031909963This mixed method case study was conducted with focus on Brazilian migration to Guyana as a livelihood strategy. The study examined, described and analyzed the migration and adaptation process, and the socioeconomic and physical environmental impacts and concerns of the livelihood activities adopted by these migrants in Guyana. Questionnaires, interviews, documentaries, archival records, and observations (direct and participant) were utilized to gain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon under study. The study confirms that throught a strong networking system, Brazilians from lower socioeconomic and cultural classes are able to adopt migration as a livelihood strategy, as they migrate in a step-wise manner along a well-defined route to Guyana. Maintaining this networking system, migrants have been able to respond swiftly to new livelihood activities both internally and internationally. In Guyana, mining and prostitution are the major livelihood activities that have given rise to both positive and negative socioeconomic consequences and concerns and, negative environmental impacts.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Compreendendo a imigração espanhola no Pará (1896-1899): um estudo a partir das passagens grátis como fontes de informação(2011-04) FERREIRA, Rubens da Silva; COSTA, Érica ElaineIt discusses the free tickets granted to Spanish immigrants to settle in Pará State (1896-1899), Brazil, as a source of information. It uses quantitative documentary research to understand the factors that motivated Vigo-Spain/Belém-Brazil migration, as well as to build a profile of the Spanish settlers. Based on a documentary sample from the Spanish immigration archives in the custody of the Arquivo Público do Estado do Pará, the research brings together information on the 792 Spaniards who obtained free tickets. The information recorded on these tickets indicates the origin, boarding ships, gender, age, civil status and occupation of the people in focus. The arrival of the Spanish is associated to changes in the Spanish economy, the 'whitening' of the Brazilian population policy and the need to populate the Brazilian Amazon. The migrants are mostly male, working age and peasants. With the existence of few sources of information on the Spanish presence in Pará, it is important to preserve and diffuse this documentary heritage. In this direction, the search for national and intenational tecnique cooperation is a necessary strategy to archival institutions that guard documents of Spanish immigration in Brazil.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) Em busca das “patacas”: patrimônio de portugueses na economia da borracha (Belém, 1840-1930)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2016-02-26) TAVARES, Anndrea Caroliny da Costa; CANCELA, Cristina Donza; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8393402118322730This essay discusses the composition of the Portugueses immigrants’ fortunes, in the city of Belém, between the years of 1840 to 1930. With the strong migration propaganda in Europe, the State of Pará was the stage entrance for many European immigrants, among them, the Spanish. Attracted by agriculture which was in a high position in the state, due to the creation of colonial settlements, several Spanish families, coming many times from poor settlements, crossed the Atlantic and reconstructed their lives in various colonial centers of the State of Pará. Thus, this study is to investigate which socio-economic contributions of Spanish immigrants to the development of northeastern. From now on, it is possible to understand all the process of introduction of these settlers in Pará territory and their daily lives in the settlement, with the use of official documents and interview to demonstrate this experience of Spanish in Amazon. With this, pretend to give a contribute to research the field of historiographical studies on international migration in the Amazon, considering that there is still shortage of work in the migration studies in the region, except for some works recognized by researchers who dedicated themselves to the theme of migration in the paraense territory.Dissertação Acesso aberto (Open Access) O Japão na Amazônia: condicionantes para a fixação e mobilidade dos imigrantes japoneses (1929-2009)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2010-04-09) MUTO, Reiko; ARAGÓN VACA, Luis Eduardo; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2713210031909963; EMMI, Marília Ferreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4619867698790381This paper investigates the immigration of Japanese people in to the Northern Region of Brazil and the variables that lead to the establishment of agricultural colonies in the State of Pará. It analyses the mobility of agriculture colonies from other regions, with particular attention given to the Tome-Açu (Pará) and the Amapá colonies, where the former colony is considered a successful case and the latter, the opposite. To achieve this, the thesis addresses current immigration theory, the international migration context between Brazil and Japan and national context of Japanese immigration. On the local approach, it discusses questions related to negotiations between the Brazilian Government and Japanese immigration promoting companies that occurred in the Amazon, Pará and Amapá states; In addition the paper covers the public policies aimed at establishing immigrants before and after the Second World War and the difficulties of different Japanese colonies that established in the Northern Region. The research is based on the bibliographical information and interviews with Japanese immigrants. From the data analysis, it was concluded, the planned migration model established in previously selected places by the Japanese representatives on the present Tome-Açu city in the beginning of immigration (1920‘s) and the following investments of private Japanese companies, and of the Japanese Government after Second World War were determining to the establishment of the immigrants in Tome-Açu. On the directioned immigration model (post WWII) on the colonies of Amapá land proceeded without proper planning of agricultural planting and research, hindered the planting and transport of goods. In addition, the health of many immigrants was compromised by endemic diseases in the region. These factors contributed to exodus of the majority of immigrants who searched other alternatives for their survival.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Leis, mortes e fugas: o processo de abolição da escravidão e a entrada dos imigrantes no Piauí (1872 – 1887)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-08-19) SILVA, Rodrigo Caetano; BEZERRA NETO, José Maia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7000143949499821the objective of this dissertation is to defend the idea the there were several contributing factors in the process of decrease of the slave population in Piaui' province. I addition, I propose that the entry in Piaui' of immigrants trying to evade the drought contributed to the process of transition of the slave labor into the labor provided by free persons. Among the factors that contributed to the decrease of the slave population, I point out: the Law of the Free Womb and the Law of the Sexagenarians. When analyzing these two laws I focused mainly on the creation of the Fundo Emancipador (Freedom Fund), on the criteria used to free slaves using that fund, and how this mechanism functioned. The process of decrease of the slave population also included: deaths and escapes. The spatial framework for the research is the province of Piaui', where until today there is a lack of scientific verification about the process of decrease of slaves and freedom of slaves. The chronological framework encompasses the period between 1872 to 1887. Such framework is justified because it was in this period of the nineteenth century that the struggle against slavery intensified in Piaui'. With the selection of this period of time, some questions became pertinent and gave impetus to the research: Was the decrease of slaves in Piaui' inserted in the same process on a national context? In this process of decrease, were the slaves aware of what was happening? Was there a sui generis characteristic in the process of aboliton of slavery in Piaui'? The theoretical basis for the text was established in the arguments by the British historian E. P. Thompson, who proposes a dialogue among the different agents reacting to actions existing in the environment.
