This dissertation addresses the degradation of living conditions for residents of the industrial district of Low Pequiá in the municipality of Açailândia / Ma from Steel Pole deployment of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce in the region. The objectives of the study sought to characterize the health conditions and environment, employment and income and also the community organization of the population from impacts caused by development projects in the area. From a critical perspective, it was carried out in addition to the Bibliographic and document research, a survey of secondary data obtained by consulting the research already carried out in the Low Pequiá district by public and / or non-governmental organizations entities. Also were conducted interviews with residents. The results obtained indicated that, even with the social organization emerged in coping with the social impacts caused by Steel Pole, the living conditions of the residents of that area proves the extreme violation of social rights.
