The newspaper supplement called “Suplemento Arte Literatura”, was part of the “A Folha do Norte”, issued in Belém, the capital of the state Pará in Brazil, from 1946 to 1951. It was a literature and literature critic exponent and it scooped the called “new generation” of poets, fictionists and local literature critics, besides Brazilian and foreign authors that represented the after-war literature spirit in Brazil. This supplement brought a literature life in the town when it broke up with the cultural isolation in which Belém had always been, compared with the other big cultural urban centers in the country. This is a detailed description and analysis of this supplement, including a description of the cultural environment during the urban expansion in Belém and the arise of a generation of young writers that preceded this period, from 1932 to 1929 and from 1938 to 1942 and, after the “Arte Literária”, the signs of depauperation of this experience.
