The sale of açaí in Belém is carried out by several units that operate in the retail market. The objective of this study was to identify market segments: greengrocers, micro entrepreneurs and supermarkets, from the analysis of a set of variables that define the decisions of açaí consumers. The stepwise multiple discriminant analysis was used to estimate the discriminant functions. Results show that the segment identified with greater precision was the greengrocery, with 100%, followed by supermarkets, with 96.5% of the cases accurately classified, and the segment of micro entrepreneurs, with 90.9%, had the lowest accuracy in the consumer classification. The estimated model showed a high significance in the estimation process, since the functions with the variables amount of açaí, consumer income, price of açaí, quality of açaí, price of fish and price of flour, correctly classified 95.6% of the original elements.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Trabalho e trabalhadores da pesca industrial no Pará face à metamorfose do capital(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2003) SENA, Ana Laura dos Santos; CASTRO, Edna Maria Ramos de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4702941668727146Labor is going through a phase of transformation due to new types of technology and organization of the production process that in turn shape the production of goods worldwide. New organization models have taken place and have been connected with fordist practices, which have caused a major impact on the work force utilization in the production process. This study analyzed the fishery industry taking into account development features of this activity, the structure possessed by companies of this sector to be on the market and earn new markets, and the way workers are placed in activities such as fish catching and processing. Companies comprising the fishery industry from the Icoaraci District (the Iargest one in Pará State) were analyzed through the study of how the strategy adopted by processing companies and small fishery companies, in Iight of changes in customer market and decreasing of the main resources exploited, have an effect on the workers involved in such activities.
