This study aims to identify the different uses and approaches of water, sometimes seen as a vehicle, or as substance, such as landscape and still as a resource, visions which for times intertwine. Five types of water uses were identified in Tucunduba River basin, namely: water supply; waste dilution, transport / shipping, recreation / leisure and even fishing. The research shows how the Tucunduba River basin has undergone changes throughout its history, evidencing the environmental degradation in its surroundings. With the assistance of documented research, bibliographic review, interviews with local people involved and systematic observation in loco, it was possible to analyze the uses and practices still present in the basin, and how public interventions can contribute or disregard the singular practices of the man with the water resources, notedly with the river.
