Thispaper discusses the ways of transmissionof local knowledgeandjob insecurityofwoodenboat buildersof the LowerTocantins(PA). The occupationof shipbuildingcraftisacultural practicethat has establishedasecular cultural practice ofworkers in theshipbuildingcraft, which according to thefunctional structureof the sectorhas threesegments: marinecarpenters, caulkers and painters. Themasters areholders ofan intellectualtacitcollection for the construction ofwatercraft, which cansupplya significant parcel ofshipbuildingdemand, destined forthe fishing production, fruits andpassengertransportation. Therefore,the present essayaims to reflect onthe social reproductionof the builders ofwooden boatsin the Amazon, occupation 50that by the social collectivememory of reproductionof local knowledgeis passedfrom generation togeneration.
