This work aims to understand the space-time perception and the dynamics of aggressions by blood-sucking bats in humans in an extractive reserve area in the Amazon. As a methodological procedure, documentary and article references were collected. Oral interviews were also conducted with the oldest social actors and with individuals who had already been attacked from the communities visited. Individuals who confirmed that they had been assaulted by bats were georeferenced. The most affected are artisanal fishermen who live with their families or stay for seasons on the islands and beaches to fish for crab, fish or shrimp. In general, the interviewees do not relate the alteration of the landscape to the increase in aggressions, but they highlight the reduction of some animal species in this environment. However, it was possible to identify locations where aggressions have not occurred for at least 10 years associated with the introduction of electrical energy. In locations where there is no electricity, individuals with recent attacks have been identified. In the fishermen's perception, alcoholism is an important factor for the exposure of these individuals. It identifies the need for educational work for the population that is attacked, and the recognition of public policies for those individuals who become more vulnerable to bats.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Efeito do ganhar ou perder nos niveis de raiva e ansiedade em lutadores de judô(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2017-02-17) ARDILA, Héctor Andrés Páez; GOUVEIA JUNIOR, Amauri; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1417327467050274Aggression is a behavior that involves a simultaneous activation of physiological, biochemical, neurological and behavioral components and emotions, such as anxiety and anger. In humans, sports can be considered as a form of display because they allow aggression to be expressed with a low probability of permanent damage to subjects. The competitions have been used as models to evaluate the activation produced by the different stages of competition, such as the outcome of the combat. Judo has been used as a model of competitive aggression to evaluate the different body responses in agonistic behaviors in humans, since it offers a context like those studied in animal fights. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of win / lose in the levels of anger and anxiety in regional judo fighters, male, linked to the Para Federation of Judo, Using the STAXI and IDATE psychometric scales, as well as comparing these results with the Brazilian general population and a correlation analysis to know the differences between the different components with the number of strokes, using a pre/post fight evaluation and the filming of the fights. Differences were found between winners and losers, as well as between fighters and the Brazilian population; The losers presented higher levels of anger, while the anxiety was greater for the winners.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Estudo epidemiológico da raiva, caracterização antigênica de cepas do vírus da raiva isoladas na Amazônia brasileira(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2009-10-27) CASSEB, Livia Medeiros Neves; ROSA, Elizabeth Salbé Travasos da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2209576799096027; VASCONCELOS, Pedro Fernando da Costa; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0973550817356564Aiming to evaluate the epidemiology of rabies, new diagnostic procedures – antigenic and genetic characterization - were included in this study to investigate the epidemiologic profile of animal rabies in the Brazilian Amazon region, between January 2000 and July 2009. A careful revision of information of Central Nervous System (CNS) samples received and examined at Rabies Laboratory of Instituto Evandro Chagas was performed. A total of 265 rabies virus strains isolated from CNS samples of humans (33) and domestic/sylvatic animals (232) were antigenically characterized by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) using a panel of eight monoclonal antibodies against the rabies virus nucleoprotein produces by the CDC; moreover, from 21 of them the nucleoprotein (gene N) was partially characterized by nucleotide sequencing followed by phylogenetic analyzes. Obtained sequences were compared internally and with other rabies virus sequences from Brazil and other American countries, using the Bayesian and maximum likelihood methods. It was observed a lower transmission of rabies virus in urban areas; the detection of the rural cycle of rabies in almost all Amazonian states; the occurrence of aerial rabies cycle in Pará and Amapá states; identification of rabies virus variant 2 (AgV2) among domestic dogs and cats as the main viral transmission mechanism; detection of circulating antigenic variants AgV3, AgV4 and “Eptesicus” variant in sylvan animals; and finally, reduction of dog-to-man transmission of rabies virus which was replaced by an increasing of bat-to-man transmission cycle, especially in Pará state. In conclusion, the association of antigenic and molecular techniques resulted in a better understanding of rabies molecular epidemiology in the Amazon region.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Variabilidade morfométrica e molecular em Desmodus rotundus (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) de diferentes áreas de risco para raiva rural no estado do Pará, Brasil(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011) ANDRADE, Fernanda Atanaena Gonçalves de; FERNANDES, Marcus Emanuel Barroncas; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8943067124521530At the present study the hypothesis of population morphological and molecular heterogeneity was tested in several groups of the common vampire bat Desmodus rotundus from oriental Amazonia as well the relationship among the environmental heterogeneity and the process and patterns of rabies outbreaks in human and bovine population was described. For this 776 individuals of common vampire bats from 72 different places of state of Pará were disposed by Instituto Evandro Chagas (IEC - Ministério da Saúde/Belém), Laboratório Nacional Agropecuário (Lanagro/Belém) and Fundação de Vigilância em Saúde do Amazonas (FVG/Manaus). Data from 1999 to 2008 of rabies upon humans and bovines in Pará were disposed by the Secretaria Executiva de Saúde Pública do Pará (SESPA). For morphometric analysis, 39 phenotypic measures (16 bodies and 23 cranials) all adult individuals (329 males and 315 females) were obtained. For genetic analysis, 258 bats (47% males and 53% females) were characterized by 10 microsatelite markers. To describe the areas of rabies risk we used the ecological, biological and socioeconomic shapes of environment as well the soil using, all these geographically georeferenced. One of our results of phenotypic inferences suggest that vampires from Pará showed the tendency to group formation with individuals of the north region of state (Amazonas basin, Marajóand Northeastern regions), only as well they were less similar to bats from southern and southwestern regions. In general, D. rotundus did not show high phenotypically structure among the groups in Pará. The highest variability occurrence in D. rotundus, was not observed among geographic groups. According to molecular analysis of variance (AMOVA), 96% of them were found within each studied group. Our data showed that several of the groups studied in Pará are still under Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, suggesting the existence of one single panmitic population of the common vampire bat in this North state, but with tendencies to the formation of three great groups (Amazon basin, Marajóand Northeast). To this panmitic population, the reproduction and adaptation patterns garanteed the high equity of allelic richness and good rates of genetic diversity in D. rotundus from oriental Amazon, even under the fragmentation effects in many areas of Pará state, mainly in the east side.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Virological and serological diagnosis of rabies in bats from an urban area in the brazilian Amazon(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-12) OLIVEIRA, Rubens Souza de; COSTA, Lanna Jamile Corrêa da; ANDRADE, Fernanda Atanaena Gonçalves de; UIEDA, Wilson; MARTORELLI, Luzia Fatima Alves; KATAOKA, Ana Paula de Arruda Geraldes; ROSA, Elizabeth Salbé Travassos da; VASCONCELOS, Pedro Fernando da Costa; PEREIRA, Armando de Souza; FERNANDES, Marcus Emanuel Barroncas; CARMO, Antônio Ismael Barros doThe outbreaks of rabies in humans transmitted by Desmodus rotundus in 2004 and 2005, in the northeast of the Brazilian State of Para, eastern Amazon basin, made this a priority area for studies on this zoonosis. Given this, the present study provides data on this phenomenon in an urban context, in order to assess the possible circulation of the classic rabies virus (RABV) among bat species in Capanema, a town in the Amazon basin. Bats were collected, in 2011, with mist nets during the wet and dry seasons. Samples of brain tissue and blood were collected for virological and serological survey, respectively. None of the 153 brain tissue samples analyzed tested positive for RABV infection, but 50.34% (95% CI: 45.67-55.01%) of the serum samples analyzed were seropositive. Artibeus planirostris was the most common species, with a high percentage of seropositive individuals (52.46%, 95% CI: 52.31 52.60%). Statistically, equal proportions of seropositive results were obtained in the rainy and dry seasons (c2 = 0.057, d.f. = 1, p = 0.88). Significantly higher proportions of males (55.96%, 95% CI: 48.96-62.96%) and adults (52.37%, 95% CI: 47.35-57.39%) were seropositive. While none of the brain tissue samples tested positive for infection, the high proportion of seropositive specimens indicates that RABV may be widespread in this urban area.
