This dissertation, entitled "Mathematical literacy in the river context: a look at the multigrade classes of reality Amazon", aimed to investigate theoretical and methodological approaches to teaching and learning of mathematics within the mathematics literacy, able to be established in classes multigrade schools riverside reality Amazon. In this research, the vision of mathematics literacy was constructed taking into account not only the first skills of reading and writing early language school mathematics by the child (DANYLUK, 1997), but as a path to learning of man and woman in the world of relationships mathematics, from theoretical conceptions of D'Ambrosio (2002), Domite and Mosque (2003), Sebastiani Ferreira (1997), I. Mendes (2009) and Freire (2002). The survey was conducted in São Domingos do Capim, Para State, Brazil, between October 2010 and August 2011. In research on literacy in math classes multigrade schools riverside, interactions were held with representatives of the Municipal Education riverside multigrade school visits, interviews with teachers of this county. As instruments of construction data were utilized field diary, interviews and observations. The analysis of field research was organized in the following items: a) the multigrade classes in mathematics and literacy riverside b) Teaching tools and mathematical literacy, and c) Culture and mathematics education in Amazonia: between scientific knowledge and knowledge of tradition . It can be argued that the mathematical literacy expressed within coastal still restricted to the strictly mathematical experiences related to school curriculum without considering the wealth of possibilities knowledge of students' experiences in their daily context as spatial displacement in the rivers, in Mathematical elements involved in marketing fruit and fish, for example.

Aspectos epidemiológicos da infecção pelo vírus da hepatite C em populações ribeirinhas do estado do Pará, na Amazônia brasileira
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-09-24) FECURY, Amanda Alves; MARTINS, Luisa Caricio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1799493244439769
The hepatitis C virus (HCV) has large number of infected and may cause hepatocellular carcinoma. Its genetic material RNA presents six different genotypes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) and subtypes, related by disease prognosis and response to treatment. The main route of transmission of HCV is the parenteral route, but the vertical and intrafamily transmission and is also reported. Drug use and needlestick share were characterized as risk factors for acquisition of infection and pathways are described and confirmed by literature. Less is known about viral transmission in remote or hard to reach communities such as riverside communities. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of viral infection, evaluate the serological profile and circulating genotype HCV, and trace the epidemiological characteristics, describing the main risk factors for acquisition of HCV infection that different riverside communities living in the State of Pará, in the Eastern Amazon, are exposed. The respondents answered a questionnaire to obtain epidemiologic information and blood samples were collected to carry out the serological, molecular, and genotyping tests. 1.277 samples were collected from Surrounding of the Tucuruí Hydroeletric, Pacuí, Hole of Maracujá and Nazário communities. Predominant age group 18-37 years old, female, married, low education, fishermen or açaí extractor, with up to 1 minimum wage. Respecting the particular characteristics of each local, consumption of alcohol and tobacco ranged between communities, as well as sharing the spiked material and cutting, the manicure kits, surgeries, hospitalization, presence of sexually transmitted diseases and if has any familiar with hepatitis. The Pacuí presented prevalence of HCV infection of 8,84 % having moderate prevalence of infection and Tucuruí was 2,25 %, close to the national average. The genotype 1 was found in 100% of Pacuí samples and 70% of Tucuruí samples, which possessed the remaining 30% of the samples belonging to genotype 3, following the pattern expected genotype distribution. In Maracujá Hole and Nazário Hole, there were no positive samples. The communities seem to have individuals who should be considered for the taking of public health measures, with increased risk of infection through drug use and the sharing of needlestick objects. The viral circulation have intermediate to moderate prevalence, with standard genotypic distribution similar to the Brazilian. The distribution of the infection and its features can vary within the country and even within their own regions, depending on the presence and viral circulation, in addition to the risk factors to which comunities are exposed.

Hunting is an extremely complex issue, due to the serious impact on the environment, but also because game meat is one of the main sources of animal protein for the traditional Amazonian people. This essay discusses subsistence hunting and the lack of access regarding river communities from the Reserva Extrativista do Rio Iriri to food security policies. It aims to discuss the socioeconomic contribution of subsistence hunting, and to bring evidences of the difficult situation in which these families live while trying to gain access to food products and public services in general. To achieve these goals, this paper embraces the theme from an economic and anthropological perspective, by using ethnographic resources to show evidences of the relations between man and environment, as well as the interaction between the economic sector and the other sectors in social life. For this discussion, the theoretical and methodological support from Maurice Godelier, Karl Polanyi, Pierre Bourdieu, Jorge Gasché Suess and Napoleón Vela Mendoza was used, as well as concepts of microeconomics.

The present study focuses the process of construction of meanings in the make-believe play for children of a riverine class in Amazon, from the formularizations of the historical and cultural psychology. In this theoretical methodological perspective, the human being constitutes itself while subject intermediated by the internalization/externalization of the meanings of its cultural group, that are constructed during the dialogical interactions. The main activity by which the preschool child affects this process is the make-believe play, for give the child opportunity to operate directly with the meanings shared in the cultural context where she lives is. In this manner, the objective of this research was to examine the dialogical interactions that happen during the make-believe play of children of a classroom of a riverine class of the Amazon to identify the meanings constructed in the interactions and to verify how, through them, the children co-construct themselves while citizens and participants of the culture. For this, I made a field-work in the classes of kindergarten of a pedagogical unit, located in the Island of the Combu, in the city of Belém of Pará, throughout the years of 2003 and 2006, that was divided in two distinct stages. At the first moment of the research, I effected the characterization of the cultural context of life of the children who frequented the classes of kindergarten. The participants of this stage were thirteen children who had frequented the classroom of kindergarten in the year of 2003, with eleven boys and two girls, between four and five years old, the teacher of the kindergarten class and the responsible ones for the children. The children and its familiar ones had been interviewed. The children had been observed playing in its houses. I analyzed the subjects, the partners, the places, objects and the meanings constructed in the kids play. At the second moment, I made the microgenetic analysis of the dialogical interactions that had occurred in the make-believe play. The participants had been sixteen children who had frequented the classroom of kindergarten in the year of 2005 and the teacher. The analyzed data showed: 1) The ways of construction of the meanings for the children and between them and the teacher; 2) The types of constructed meanings: about the world, about themselves and the others, and about the relation of themselves with the others; 3) The origin of the constructed meanings; 4) The relation culture-subjectivity. The characterization of the cultural context revealed that although they were in contact with the urban context, the children had revealed linked, mainly, to the riverine context. The microgenetic analysis of the dialogical interactions during the tricks showed that the meanings about the world, about themselves and the others, and the relation of themselves with the others, shared in the cultural context of the Island of the Combu, had been internalized, starting to constitute the subjectivities of the investigated children. It indicated in despite of make-believe play, by itself, independent of the participation of other children and the adult, contributes for the process of cultural constitution of the child, but it can be enriched with the participation of other children and the teacher, that respects the initiative, the culture, the level of development of the child and has clarity of its paper to plan and to lead the pedagogical act in one determined direction. Other children contribute increasing the motivation for the trick, including new elements of their cultural universe, renewing the subjects, offering models to be represented and creating complementation opportunities that imply in challenges to be adjusted during the interactions to the levels of developments of the partners. The teacher contributes planning interactive environment - child - child and child-teacher, respecting the activity and the level of development of the children, detaching the constructed meanings in the active and interactive way and, in some cases redirecting the play, with the purpose of the constitution of a determined type of subjectivity and not of a different one. In short, the study reveals how by means of the meanings constructed in the dialogical interactions, the children participate of their collective culture and constitute themselves as riverine people of Amazon.

Based on photographic records, this paper reflects on the ebb and flow of the Maracujá Island dwellers, between the island and Belém, making use of the ways they use their bodies or 'know how to use' them, that Mauss called corporal techniques. Bodies disclosed, since they are always exposed and therefore capable of being visually and ethnographically categorized. Inspired on Certeau, the article seeks to think of the corporal tactics devised by island residents to practice the landscapes of belonging revealing peculiar body expressions in constructing their everyday experiences. Such observations do not refer to a body-object, but to a body that is the subject of culture, as Csordas says, a body that is "the existential basis of culture".

The Amazon represents over half of the tropical forests in the world and has the highest biodiversity in the world, but continues to suffer serious environmental problems due to the illegal exploitation of its resources. Human populations living in these areas are indigenous and non-indigenous, largely rural, with intense miscegenation between white settlers, the indigenous native population and Africans who came as slaves. They are small producers who depend on and deeply know the nature and its cycles and use relatively simple technology, little impact on the environment. These populations living in rural areas are considered made vulnerable, especially children. This study aimed to assess the health situation of children from three population groups of the Amazon residents National Forest Caxiuanã (PA), the Sustainable Development Reserve Mamirauá (AM) and seven Quilombo communities (Africa / Laranjituba, St. Anthony , hoses, Spring, Oriximiná, Trumpets and Abacatal - PA). 990 children were analyzed 0 to 9 years of age compared to WHO criteria from 2008 to 2015. It was found that children Caxiuanã are in deficit height / age (26.15%) and children Mamirauá (17.9%), while among the Maroons the most serious situation was in the Spring community (35.72%). The difference between them was significant (p = 0.018) and the Tukey test indicates that children Caxiuanã are worse off with regard to weight / age. In general, all communities lack environmental sanitation, running water, have substandard housing, including without bathroom or internal health, which influences the high levels of intestinal parasites, skin infections and other diseases. Access to health services is often difficult due to the distances between homes and health centers, as in most cases the transport is poor. The Amazon region is vast and difficult to manage, but if there is no serious improvements in public policies in all sectors, children in rural areas still remain distant from international growth parameters in the 21st century Therefore, it is necessary that best public health programs are developed to the Amazon region, which are reflected in better quality growth and health.

A cultura ribeirinha entre o saber local e o saber global numa visão etnomatemática
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2010-05-20) SOUSA, Magali Rocha de; LUCENA, Isabel Cristina Rodrigues de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3255121871351967
This paper is the outcome of the research that had as aim the analysis of a group of dwellers living by the river in the island of João Pilatos (Ananindeua – PA) showing how they relate the knowledge taught during the clinic on how to form rural entrepreneurs with the know-how they already bring from the traditions of their ancestors, and, especially the math knowledge. The empirical part of this research took place in two different spots and in different moments: the first one was held in the island of João Pilatos where the data about the history of the communities living there were collected, as well as the daily chores and also the fishing activities, the plantation, the exploitation of the forest and the preparing of the charcoal, and the trade of these goods. In this moment, the only resources used were a notebook and a pen to scribble and the hearing technique as well as the dialogue. The second moment happened during the clinic on the formation of rural entrepreneurs promoted by SENAR (National Service of Rural Learning). In this place, my participation in the group was limited to listening and watching the gestures and facial expressions of the participants who were there. Due to this, the observation followed by the notes, were the techniques used during this stage. After the clinic, some semi-structured interviews were held with the subjects of this research with the aim of complementing the notes made during the clinic. The Sociology and the Ethnomathematics were the theoretical basis used in the organization and analysis of the field information. In the field of sociology, I searched Antony Giddens, Renato Ortiz and Georges Balandier to analyze the phenomenom of economic and social globalization over these dwellers’ culture and Berger & Luckmann with his theory “The social construction of the reality” to analyze the livelihood and the production of knowledge. In the field of Ethnomathematics, I used the Ethnomathematics under D’Ambrosio’s approach as well as the research of the area. At the end of the analysis, concerning to the mathematics, I realized that having control over calculations and formulas of this area of knowledge was not the condition enough to enable the subjects reach the target of the clinic, once either the entrepreneurs or the dwellers faced the Mathematics in different aspects when it came to explaining and seeing the world. Through this cultural conflict, it is possible to point out that the subjects of this research would reach the target of the clinic and establish a great amount of relations among academic Mathematics and the knowledge of their traditions if the mathematics studied, during the clinic, were re-meant in the context of the dwellers. As consequence of the first analysis, it is also possible to conclude that, according to the conception currently present in the school environment that not only distinguishes but also separates the cultural values which considers the production of knowledge coming from academic/scientific environment and that these types of knowledge should be socialized in a disciplined way, the possibilities of a greater number of relations between knowledge of the cultural tradition and the scientific tradition have more possibilities to occur in non-academic environment.

The central goal of this thesis is to understand and analyze the dynamics of sustainable use the natural resource by the cabocla-riverside populations aiming the application of sustainable development concept and, starting the observation the everyday the way of life, the use of natural resources and the process of diversified production as empirical elements required to think a new pattern of development, in other words, the sustainable, anchored to traditional knowledges of cabocla-riverside populations of lowland areas the territory of Baixo Tocantins of Amazon Paraense. Like this, sought , starting of theoric debate, develop a criticizes to modern science, with specificity to instrumental rationality, that promoted fragmentation the relationship between man and nature, through development of destructive activities the natural resources that compromise the own human life , the same time, was introduced an approach of interdisciplinarity as one possibility of articulation in different areas of knowledge for a intervention under perspectives of dimensions the social life and natural. The study to elaborate this thesis has as universe the Baixo Tocantins territory, where it considered the lowland ecosystems of municipalities Abaetetuba and Igarapé-Miri, in their components considered strategic like: riverside communities, agro ecosystem and riverside population, constitutive the Tocantins river margin. For this, was reconstituted of synthetic mode, the historical trajectory of this territory through of occupation, development, and use of natural resources, which were analyzed from adaptive productive dynamics , and use of natural resources in their multiple activities of management of lowland ecosystem focused for production and management of açaí , agroforestry systems (SAFs), agriculture, creating of small and medium-sized animals , creation of fishes, vegetal extractivism and animal , shrimp fishery and fish on lowland ecosystem. This practices of use the natural resources, traditionally employed by inhabitants of lowland areas makes part of one lifestyle, that secularly has guaranteed the production of knowledge acquired/inherited of past generations, how management and use nature resources of this agrosystem. The productive diversity strategies, management and multiple uses the nature resources follows the rhythms imposed by nature of adaptation capacity of relation with natural conditions of lowland areas, such as : flood process, flood and ebb the rivers, erosion/ deposition , environmental impacts by great developmental projects, elevated levels of the rivers , among others factors, keeping a high degree of interrelationship balanced with nature. Can mean that, in the lowland ecosystem, man and nature are completed, creating a single standard of sustainable development.

The present research treats of a study which discusses the instruments of urban reform conceived in the City related to the socio-spacial specificities of an amazônico riverine municipality. We search to identify and analise the ideation of urban reform proposed by MNRU (national movement for urban reform) and conceived in the law of the city considering the socio-spacial specificities of Cametá municipality, state of Pará. To achieve the research, we appeal to a historic-dialectical approach about the problem focused and the procedures of research used were those of the survey and a bibliographical and documental analysis (law of the city and the guideline plan of Cametá); semi-structured interviews were made by the elaborator team of the municipal guideline plan, along with the integrator of the urban and rural socio- movements and the government.Through the analyses, we concluded that the riverine municipalities such as Cametá, owing to showing socio-spacial specificities in the Amazônico and Brazilian context, face dilemmas related to the planning and to the urban municipal management, which sometimes they distance from the guidelines and the principles established generically to the national territory. Such inquiry reveals the importance of thinking of Brazilian and Amazônica socio- special diversity, as well as the necessity of enabling adequacies of instruments and precepts which search to a direct number of the practices of planning and of management considering the region of Cametá only, in spite of the advances related to those same practices in the last few years in Brazil.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2014) PÓLEN, Ricardo Reis; NAHUM, João Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9009465125001273
This work makes a analysis of two extractive rural communities in Abaetetuba , in the Baixo Tocantins region from their production strategies, which have the economic base mainly on the extraction of açaí , where the Campompema community has links with cooperative and the Capim community that have his production marked by individualistic strategies for production and marketing. For such done we work to characterize the typical peasant from Amazon, the riverine, and their strategies for production and social reproduction and their territoriality. Mainly due the açai in recent decades have become a product of high commercial value in domestic and foreign markets. The objective of this analysis was to demonstrate that strategies of collective action, especially cooperatives, is an element that can be worked in order to ensure better living conditions for the riverines and regional markets for its mainly açai products, without losing the ties with the land and strengthening their territoriality.

Cardiovascular diseases have emerged as the leading cause of death in Brazil and in the world, representing a third of the deaths and the main spending on health care. Between 2000-2010, the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease in one hundred thousand inhabitants increased by 28% in the North, with dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome among the main risk factors. These values become more worrying as it may be underestimated because of consequential underreported the geographical isolation of the region, which is characteristic of northern Brazil. Dyslipidemias correspond to changes in the plasma lipid profile, and represents a criterion for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome can be defined as a set of metabolic changes such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, hypertension and obesity. Recently, animal studies and clinical models have shown increased risk of atherosclerotic disease and hypertension with exposure to mercury. In the Tapajós River region, several studies have shown human exposure in riverine populations that consume fish contaminated with methylmercury. Also, recent data from our group show that the riverine communities of Tucuruí have high levels of mercury. The aim of this observational cohort study was to analyze the possible lipid abnormalities and the presence of metabolic syndrome in riverside communities in the Amazon region: Boa Vista do Tapajós, Barreiras, Pimental, Brasilia Legal, Fordlândia and Pedra Branca (Tapajós), Vila Cametá and community Ouro Verde (Tucuruí) with mercury exposure history. For this, the calculations were carried out in body mass index (by weight and height), blood pressure measurements, analysis of glycemic control (fasting blood glucose) and lipid, by plasma levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL and the calculations LDL, VLDL and HDL cholesterol did not the lipid. After application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 337 adults of both sexes (220 of the Tapajos and 117 Tucuruí) were analyzed. High average levels of obesity and high frequency of individuals who had dyslipidemia were detected, especially in Tucuruí, where the frequencies were even higher than in the Tapajos. Also, high percentages of individuals were identified with metabolic syndrome (14% to 35% depending on the definition adopted). The criteria adopted by the NCEP have proved the most sensitive for the identification of metabolic syndrome (MS) in these populations. The main factor that contributes to the detection of the presence of MS was the low HDL level, present in 32% of individuals with MS. In Tapajós, the second and third most common factors were the high levels of triglycerides and glucose, however in Tucuruí was altered blood pressure and high triglycerides levels. In conclusion, our study provides, epidemiological data on the prevalence of dyslipidemia, overweight and obesity, high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome in adults bordering the Amazon. Adding to this, the epidemiological assessment of the lipid profile is an important tool for the promotion of health measures to prevent and reduce cardiovascular risk factors.
