Uma abordagem híbrida e semiautomática para estimativa de regiões cobertas por nuvens e sombras em imagens de satélite: análise e avaliação
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2014-03-31) SOUSA, Danilo Frazão; PELAES, Evaldo Gonçalves; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0255430734381362
The main goals of this work are to propose a more automatic and efficient algorithm to replace regions of clouds and shadows in satellite images as well as an index of reliability that is previously applied to each image, in order to measure the feasibility of the estimation of the regions covered by atmospheric components using that algorithm. The motivation comes from the problems caused by these atmospheric elements, among them: to impede the identification of objects of the image, to make the urban and environmental monitoring more difficult, and to interfere in crucial stages of digital image processing to extract information for the user, such as segmentation and classification. Through a hybrid approach is proposed a method for decomposing regions using a median non-linear low-pass filter, in order to map the regions of structure (homogeneous) and texture (heterogeneous) in the image. In these areas was applied restoration methods Inpainting by Smoothing based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), and Exemplar-Based Texture Synthesis, respectively. It's important to note that the techniques have been modified to be able to work with images obtained through of satellite sensors with peculiar features such as large size and/or high spectral variation. Regarding to the reliability index, it aims to analyze the image that contains atmospheric interference and hence estimate how much reliable will be the redefinition, based on the percentage of cloud cover over the regions of texture and structure. This index is composed by combining the result of supervised and unsupervised algorithms involving three metrics: Average of Accuracy Global, Measure Of Structural Similarity (SSIM) and Average of Pixels Confidence. Finally, it was verified the effectiveness of these methods through a quantitative assessment (provided by the index) and qualitative (the images resulting from processing), showing the possible application of the techniques to solve the problems that motivated this work.

The objective of this research is to analyze the dynamics of the mangrove areas in the north coast of Brazil from images of remote orbital sensors and hydrosedimentological data (flow and suspened sediment concentration). We tried to understand the existence of causality between the expansion or retraction of the mangroves with the suspened solid discharge calculated from the data of flow and suspened sediment concentration. The mangroves were mapped, using the object oriented classification technique, in the years 1975, 1996 and 2008 based on data from microwave sensors (RADAM / GEMS, JERS-1, ALOS / PALSAR). The data of fluviometric stations and sediments of the National Water Agency were used to calculate the solid discharge in suspension in the rivers Araguari, Gurupi, Pindaré, Grajaú and Mearim seeking to relate the addition and erosion in the areas of mangrove with the sedimentary load of the rivers that drain On the coast. The flow variations reflect the precipitation in the sub-basins of the analyzed rivers and presented a strong and moderate correlation with the temperature anomalies on the surface of the Pacific Ocean evidencing a relation of the El Niño and La Niña phenomena with the precipitation regimes in the Amazon. The variations of suspended sediment concentration were not related to the fluviometric variation suggesting that the annual mean oscillations are reflections of other phenomena (coverage and land use). The results show that the drainage areas of the sub-basins most impacted by the anthropic action contribute with a higher sediment load to rivers that have a higher concentration of native forest. Native vegetation contributes to containment of soil erosion and exposed soil and pasture areas are more vulnerable to soil erosion. The Gurupi, Pindaré, Grajaú and Mearim Rivers presented solid suspended load higher than or equal to the Araguari River. Analyzing the mangroves in the estuaries we noticed the addition of mangroves along the estuaries of the Gurupi and Mearim rivers (Baia de São Marcos) and the reduction of mangrove areas in the Araguari estuary. The Amazon coastal zone is subject to natural processes of great magnitude, but atrophic activities influence the natural dynamics of the region by implementing unsustainable economic practices.

Análise de imagens de sensores remotos orbitais para mapeamento de ambientes costeiros tropicais e de índices de sensibilidade ambiental ao derramamento de óleo no Golfão Maranhense
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006-04-18) TEIXEIRA, Sheila Gatinho; SOUZA FILHO, Pedro Walfir Martins e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3282736820907252
The oil spills in Brazil are more and frequents, causing several impacts on environments and biological communities. Envronmental sensitivy index maps of oil spils are indispensbles components of contingency and emergency answer plans for this tpe of accident. These maps present a system of classification based on geomorphologic characteristics of the áreas, which are defined by the following factors: wave and tidal energy exposure relative degree, shoreline slope and substrate type, and also, the easiness to clean and remove the oil impacted áreas. In this contect, the “Golfão Maranhense” region, located on Northern “Maranhão” State, was chosen in order to map and analyze the environmental sensitivity indexes (ESis) of oil spills on coastal environments, for in this área, we find the second largest port in draught of the world, the Porto f “Itaqui”. Moreover, this region is the route of six hundred oil tankers per year, which are potential agents that cause the oil spill. The methodological approach for creating the maps of environmental sensitivity index included the integrated analysis of coastal environments based on digital image processing from remote optical sensores, in this case, Landsat-4TM, CBERG-2 CCD and SPOT-2 HRV, SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images from RADARSAT-1 Wide 1, SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) elevation data, geographic information system and Field surveys related to geomorphology, topography and sedimentology. Using the aforementioned methods, the coastal environments recognized in “Golfão Maranhense” were grouped according to their envronmental sensitivity index: 1 – Solid men-made structures (ESI 1B); 2- Cliffs (ESI 1C); 3 – Fine grained sand beaches and móbile dunes (ESI 3ª); 4- Tidal sandflats (ESI 7); 5- Mixed intertidal Banks, tidal mudflats and ebb-tidal delta (ESI 9ª); 6- Supratidal sandflat (ESI 9C); 7- Saltmarshes (ESI 10ª); 8- Fresh marhes and intermittent lakes (ESI 10B) and 9- Mangrove (ESI 10C). This approach is efficient to recognize and analyze coastal environments and, therefore, it pernitted the sensivity index attribution for the oil spill on yhese environments, in a georefenced data base, which allows making faster e more efficiently decisions in case oil spills come to happen.

Análise de imagens Landsat ETM, Radarsat-1 e modelos numéricos de terreno para o mapeamento dos índices de sensibilidade ambiental ao derramamento de óleo na costa de manguezais do nordeste do Pará
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2006) BOULHOSA, Messiana Beatriz Malato; SOUZA FILHO, Pedro Walfir Martins e; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3282736820907252
Accidents related to exploration and oil transport are a threat to coast zones araund the world. Oil spills are an ecological disaster that may cause irreparable damage to the environment affecting living beings that live in these coast zones and also the local economy. Characterizing coast environments is very complex because of the many limiting factors during the mapping process. When it comes to humid tropical environment, like in Pará northeast coast, it gets worse because this area is typically dominated by macro tide. First of all, the macro tide plain creates low areas where informations about the relief are, most of times, scarce and the plain metric representation is dominant. Secondly, the tide variations with its vertical and horizontal moving produces strong changes on the sediment coast environment limits. Thirdly, the geomorphological modifications in the coast areas are intense and fast. Towards this context, the objective of this master’s degree dissertation is to create a map of the coast environment and a rating map of the environmental sensitivity about the oil spills in a certain part of Pará state northeast coast. The methodology consisted on processing digital images from remote sensors in the range of optical (Landsat ETM +7) and microwave (RADARSAT–1 Wide-1) associated to data from the SRTM (shuttle radar topographic mission) digital model of elevation, and to the field data collected in SIG (geographical information system) environment, providing an integrated analysis of the spectral, geomorphological, altimetrical and sedimentological characteristics of the coastal environments in cartographic georeferenced bases. The most important results of this dissertation allowed: 1) The evaluation of the potential of the images Landsat ETM +7, RADARSAT-1 and of the multi sensors fusion products used for identifying the coastal environment and the Environment Sensitivity Rates (ISA) of oil spills in this areas 2) Recognizing and describing five main morphological unities and fourteen sub unities: Coastal Plateau, Tide Plain, Coastal Plain and Alluvial Plain 3) Identifying and classifying eight unities of Environmental Sensitivity Rates (ISA) for the Amazon coast zone which are: ISA 1B – support wall; ISA 3B – exposed scarps with declivity to the sand; ISA 9B – sand bank and plains of tidal vegetable mudflats; ISA 9C – hypersalt herbaceous fields, ISA 10A – salt and salobre herbaceous fields; ISA10C – Mangrove; ISA 10D – Lea; 5) creation of the Environmental Sensitivity Rates map to oil spill of the studied area. The using of remote sensors techniques and SIG proved to be an important tool for recognizing and analyzing coast environments and for generating maps to coast environments and to environmental sensitivity rates to oil spills in the northeast coast of Pará.

Knowledge of spatial and temporal distribution and monitoring of its dynamic evolution are the most important factors for the study and management of wetlands. The aim of this study was to characterize, to map, to compare the spectral response of coastal wetlands, as well as detect the changes on the eastern shore of Marajo, State of Pará, using images from TM Landsat-5 reflectance. To this end, the images were geometrically and radiometrically corrected. Were collected in the reference image (2008), at least 20 polygonal samples (5x5 pixels) for each type of land cover. The analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey HSD Test and an index of spectral separability of pairs of regions of interest (ROIs) were calculated. The mapping was generated from the supervised classification Spectral Angle Mapper, and validating data, outlined by the Confusion Matrix. Thus were recognized the following units: MAN - mangrove, MAD - degraded mangrove, PRD – beaches and dunes, VSI – initial secondary vegetation, VSA - advanced secondary vegetation, ACS – water with sediment, ASS - water without sediment, OCH - human occupation and CAM – marshes. The result of ANOVA showed that there are significant differences between the average reflectance in all classes and at least one pair of means, for all bands (1-5 and 7) image. The Tukey HSD test found that the smallest difference between two means of bands 1 and 2 occurs in pair VSAMAN, the band 3, VSI-MAN, the band 4, OCH-MAN, the band 5, OCH-PRD, and band 7, ASS-ACS. The function of spectral separability of pairs of ROIs highlighted a low value for the pair of classes OCH-CAM. The calculation accuracy of the mapping showed acceptable values. Was also applied the technique of spectral mixture model to determine the fractions – green vegetation, water and/or shade, soil and vegetation not photosynthetically active – in reflectance images in years from 1988, 1994, 1998, 2004, 2006 and 2008. The detection of changes over the years was done with the help of the tri-linear diagram of Thompson, used to analyze the evolution of Mangrove environments, Salt Marshes with a predominance of soils, Grassland Salt Marshes, Beaches and Dunes, Wet Sediment, Water with Sediment and Water without Sediment. The results showed that 80% of the samples from mangrove environment, maintained their spectral characteristics, ie, the environment has not changed over time, and that 15% of possible paths indicated a gradual change for the formation of mangrove until 2008. Of the total number of pixels analyzed for this environment, 93% corresponded to the actual mangrove, confirming a relative stability of this environment in the study area. Salt Marshes showed an unusual condition in the analysis of the image of the reference year (2008), with spectral response similar to the soil characteristics, this is not checked in years gone by. In recent years, there was a predominance of Grassland Salt Marshes. As for the environment Beaches and Dunes revealed a considerable increase of its surface (66.7%) in the 20-year period (1988-2008). Overall, the results suggest that the study area has undergone the process of progradation of sediments along the shoreline and stabilization in the increase of surface Mangrove since 2006. For the Salt Marshes detect the variations in the abundance values among the three fractions (Green Vegetation, Shade/Water, Non-photosynthetically Active Vegetation and Soil) generated by the spectral mixture model, mainly due to seasonal climate in the region. The method of change detection applied fostered the development of a model spectral dispersion diagram for coastal wetlands. This model should assist in future research about the monitoring of the impacts of the humid coastal environments from the increase in sea level, the location and spectral characterization, and change detection.

Análise dos efeitos térmicos de superfície na cidade de Belém-Pará-Brasil utilizando imagens de satélite
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-08-12) CORRÊA, Leda Vilhena; VITORINO, Maria Isabel; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4813399912998401
Using observational data of precipitation and air temperature from1967 to 2008, which drafted the climatology of these variables and analyzed the weather influenced by ENOS, were made an identification, characterization and analysis of spatial thermal effects in Belem (PA), from surface meteorological data and MODIS sensor images (which is prepared on a platform of the Aqua satellite). The average annual precipitation was 2978.6 mm/year, and presented an upward trend over the years, similar behavior has proved to the air temperature. In General, the results show two centers of greater intensity of surface temperatures: a center in Belem and another center in nearby town, Ananindeua. These centers vary spatially and temporally in intensity. During La Niña events, the center of heat island is located in the neighborhoods closest to Guajara Bay, while in the El Niño events, these neighborhoods have milder temperatures than the neighborhoods farther from water sources. The thermal amplitude of surface temperature between urban and rural areas varies greatly, with largest variation of 30,8°C and the lowest of 16,8°C. Thus, the highest surface temperatures were observed in neighborhoods with low NDVI, which is a consequence of a denser urbanization. Urban areas and most vegetated surfaces show cause/effect relationships very close, especially during the dry season, this can be realized by correlation that has value greater than 50%. This study presents results that assist in better understanding of behavior and spatial and temporal thermal effects in Belem, because the use of satellite images is important for the identification and characterization of climatic environmental conditions and urban heat islands.

Knowledge of the location of reservoirs of water bodies is extremely important for the study and management of water resources. However, the registration of such information is mandatory for large dams, however, it is performed in a purely informative manner by most entrepreneurs, and it is up to them to correctly inform the data or simply ignore its importance. The cost of on-site registration is high, in addition to taking a long time on the part of environmental agencies such as ANA, ANM, SEMAS. In this sense, orbital images can offer maps of buslocations at low cost, covering large areas, including difficult to access. The present work has as main objective to perform a temporal space analysis through the MNDWI index, with the objective of subsidizing the registration and location of the buses in the state of Pará, which have an area of water depth greater than 3,600m², using for this purpose , 192 imagesof the Landsat sensor that cover the entire state territory. The results obtained showed a significant increase of 656% in the total number of dams in the last 20 years, mainly in the eastern region of the State. Having identified 3,704 dams in the State of Pará, however, only a total of 314 are registered on the ANA website, throughout the State. It was also identified the relationship between the largest cattle and soybean producing cities as the cities with the highest number of buses. It can be concluded that the method used proved to be efficient, since it managed to efficiently characterize the evolution of the dams over time, as well as their distribution and spatial variation, thus being able to assist in the planning of the inspection bodies in the identification of the most critical sites that need to be inspected, thus making inspection more effective and allowing better management of water resources.

Análise espaço-temporal dos manguezais degradados de Bragança, com base em imagens de satélite e modelos de elevação digital
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-02-22) MOLANO CÁRDENAS, Sergio Mauricio; COHEN, Marcelo Cancela Lisboa; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8809787145146228
The Bragança Peninsula occurs at the northern littoral of Brazil, in the state of Pará. It is characterized by the largest continuous mangrove belt in the world. The construction of the PA- 458 road in the ‘70s changed the hydrodynamics of the peninsula, causing the degradation of a considerable portion of the mangroves in the central region of the peninsula. Recently, degraded areas are being colonized by mangrove trees, mainly by the Avicennia germinans specie. This study intends to identify changes in the degraded areas of the tidal flats in topographically higher sectors during the last 35 years. To reach that objective, we used the following techniques: a) manual mapping of the degraded areas with mid spatial resolution satellite imagery; b) object-based classification of the degraded areas and mangrove species, using high spatial resolution satellite imagery; c) photogrammetry of drone imagery; d) digital elevation models; and e) topographic validation with theodolite and GNSS GPS “Antenna Catalyst”. From 1986 to 2019, there was a reduction in the degraded areas of 247.96 ha according to the mid-resolution “dataset” quantification. However, high-resolution data showed a reduction in the degraded areas of 211.65 ha between 2003 and 2019. The degraded areas quantification presents fluctuations in the regeneration trend; it is related to significant climatic phenomena such as “El Niño” and “La Niña”, accompanied by periods of drought and high rainfall, respectively. Overall accuracy and Kappa index values for the high-resolution data generally exhibited values above 0.9. Producers’ and users’ accuracy and Kappa per class values showed the difficulties separating mangrove species due to the lack of radiometric resolution of the analyzed images. The digital terrain model representing the tidal flat showed two topographically differentiated regions in the degraded areas, separated by the PA-458 road, which are mainly influenced by the Caeté’s and Taperaçú’s characteristics. This same difference was found in the vegetation height model, where the largest trees are located toward the SE side of the road, reaching 25 m, while at the NW side of the road, the tree heights oscillated mainly between 5 and 15 m. The sea-level rise specifically controls regeneration rates. This relocated the intertidal zone to topographically higher areas, increasing tidal flushing processes, essential for the mangrove forests development.

Análise integrada da paisagem para avaliação da vulnerabilidade à perda de solo das margens da Baía de Marajó, estado do Pará
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2011-11-30) GUIMARÃES, Ulisses Silva; COHEN, Marcelo Cancela Lisboa; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8809787145146228
Marajó Bay is part of the Coastal Zone in the Amazon estuary, and it constitutes a form of "V" with intensive processes of erosion and progradation. The bay shores are the object of this study, from the west coast, represented by the west coast by Salvaterra and Soure municipalities, to the east coast of Mosqueiro Island. The purpose is to analyze the coastal environments adjacent to the Marajó Bay, with a systemic and integrated approach using thematic databases (geology, geomorphology, pedology, climatology and Use and Land Cover) and remote sensing images (Landsat TM 5 and MDE SRTM) to prepare maps syntheses of landscape units and vulnerability to loss of soil as a subsidy to coastal management. The main steps of this methodology are: i) atmospheric correction by dark-object subtraction, geometric correction by orthorectification, with supervised classification algorithm Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) through training samples to map the Use and Land Cover; ii) compilation, adaptation and classification to improve data of morphology; iii) development of derivatives geomorphometric; and, iv) integration of the thematic basis for map algebra, with an overlap equation for synthesis of the landscape units maps and another equation for the preparation of the arithmetic average map of vulnerability to loss of soil. The Marajo Bay shores have mostly the unit of Fields with 17.61% of the study area (50,483.16 ha), maximum altimetry of 58 m, the topography is flat and smooth, the relief were overwhelmingly straight and planar. The integrated data indicate that the pedogenetic processes prevail in only 3.58% (10,231.38 ha) of the study area. The areas in balance between morphogenic and pedogenetic processes correspond to 3.75% (10,737.63 ha), while morphogenesis is prevalent in 42.40% (121,317.39 ha). The superiority of morphogenic units shows the hazard of coastal environments per surface mechanisms, how substrate desegregation and erosion by processes of runoff and mass displacement.

Análise temporal da cobertura vegetal de um fragmento da RPPN Seringal Triunfo, Ferreira Gomes - Amapá
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-12-27) SCHNEIDER, Juliana Cristina; GODOY, Bruno Spacek; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4036516695601666; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9751-9885
The construction of dams became necessary for national development, the Amazon region, for having a great hydro-energetic potential, was also used for the construction of these projects. River Araguari's hydrographic basin has three hydroelectric dams (Coaracy Nunes, Ferreira Gomes and Cachoeira Caldeirão) built in its middle course, in the municipality of Ferreira Gomes, however the construction generated several problems, such as loss of territoriality, difficulties in subsistence of villages and the environment modification. However, in 1998, there was the enactment of the Seringal Triunfo National Heritage Private Reserve, which aims to conserve biodiversity. Therefore, there is a need for studies aimed at improving the knowledge of vegetation cover, which have occurred since the enactment of the RPPN. In this sense, the present study sought to understand whether there were changes in the vegetation cover in the RPPN from 2000 to 2015, after its approval and with the construction of UHE Ferreira Gomes and Cachoeira Caldeirão. For this, remote sensing data were used. Twelve images obtained from the TM/Landsat-5, ETM+/Landsat 7 and OLI/Landsat-8 satellites were used, delimiting the study area with the creation of two polygons (buffer), one located within the RPPN and another adjacent with approximately the same size. Digital processing techniques were applied to these images with the aid of pixel counting software. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was calculated, making it possible to obtain the median. The obtained results show that the image processing allowed differentiate its constituent elements (vegetal cover and exposed soil). The calculation of the NDVI medians, for the scenes between the years 2000 to 2015, in the area located within the RPPN ranged from 0,37 to 0,64 and the medians of the adjacent area ranged from 0,29 to 0,63, thus, the statistical analysis showed no relationship with the years (F1,10 = 0,02 and P = 0,87), indicating that during the analyzed period there was a stability in the vegetation cover, the same occurred for the adjacent area (F1,10 = 0,11 and P = 0,74). This stability in the area of the RPPN may be related to the role it plays in nature conservation and in the adjacent area to the stagnation of population growth in the municipality. The use of images from remote sensors proved to be a very valuable tool for the present research, even without carrying out an on-site visit, it was possible to calculate the NDVI. Therefore, it is recommended for future work to analyze the NDVI from years prior to 2000, that is, years prior to the approval of the RPPN, as well as on-site visits, for the validation of the components observed in the NDVI, for the NDVI classification to the studied locality.

This study was carried out from 1990 to 2020 in the insular region of Baia do Guajará, state of Pará and aimed to analyze the dynamics of land use and cover on the islands of the insular region of Baia do Guajará through the NDVI vegetation index. with the intention of provoking the discussion and insertion of new urban, economic, social and tourist development strategies in the region in the APA of Ilha do Combú, located in the municipality of Belém, Pará. To achieve this objective, the script to generate vegetation index (NDVI) was prepared in the code editor of Google Earth Engine, comparing it with the monthly and annual averages of rainfall. It was found that seasonality consistently influences the behavior of vegetation and, consequently, the NDVI, since anthropic changes were minimal on most islands.

Environmental studies require information on land use and land cover. This paper presents the applicability of multi-sensor satellite data (optical and radar) for land use and land cover on the Amapá coastal plain for mapping and recognition of natural and anthropogenic dynamics. This area is influenced by the Amazon River, by tides (tidal bore) and by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Anthropogenic processes are associated with water buffalo ranching. The environmental information was acquired from previous data and field observation and was correlated with remote sensing data (JERS-1, RADARSAT-1, image from ETM+ sensor from Landsat 7 and DEM SRTM), digitally processed for multi-sensor, multi-scale and multi-date approach. Eight patterns of land use and land cover were identified (mangrove, "várzea" forest, arbustive vegetation area, freshwater marsh, anthropic field, intertidal plain, estuarine channel and lakes) as well with indication of natural and anthropogenic geomorphic features. The results from the evaluation of remote sensing data and the techniques applied demonstrated the potential of the remote sensing tool for studying environments in highly dynamic tropical coastal areas of difficult access. However, these tools may present some limitations once applied to application to the Amazon coast, which is a region under strong dynamic natural and anthropogenic processes.

This research introduces the use of virtual sensors to estimate the concentration of physico-chemical parameters and metals in monitoring water quality of reservoirs Amazon through artificial neural networks (ANN) and images of remote sensing. A factor analysis of the variables considered in the study confirmed the relationship of the first factor with Secchi disk, Total Iron, PO4, Total P, TSS and Turbidity on a single factor, as these have a high reflectance and good energy absorption by satellite sensors. These elements were determined by ANN's, producing satisfactory results approach 100% between observed and estimated. The tests resulted in a good approximation, the first band Secchi disk depth, total Fe, STS, and turbidity of the water reservoir. In the specific case of the parameters PO4 and Total P, besides the problem of the small number of sampling stations available data and the variability inherent in the hydrological cycle of the region, it was found, through the interpretation of images, lack of similarities between the data used in training and validation of RNA. Overall, the study demonstrated the effectiveness of the application of virtual sensors in monitoring water quality of reservoirs in the Amazon by satellite imagery, providing a precise and less expensive alternative resources in the process of environmental monitoring.

The urbanization has been provoking local variations in several climatic elements, among them it a increase of the temperature of the air, provoking the emergence of portions of the space with larger temperatures than the areas to yours spill, that calls her of urban islands of heat. Among the causes of the appearance of the islands of heat, the retreat of the vegetable covering is the most relevant. The purpose of this work was to identify, through the technique of remote sensing, the urban islands of heat and the urban islands of coolness in the continental area of the Municipal district of Belem, as well as the variation of the vegetable covering, comparing the results of the years of 1997 and 2008, in order to reveal a possible relationship between the variation of the vegetable covering and the islands of heat and urban islands of coolness. To develop this research, it was fallen back upon thermal images of sensor TM for determination of the temperature values, as well as data of temperature of the air observed in the stations: climatological conventional of Belem (2o. DISME / INMET), meteorological sinotic of Val-of-Cans and meteorological automatic sinotic of Belem (2o. DISME / INMET). The vegetable covering was also determined with use of the images of sensor TM, with the bands 3,4 and 5. In agreement with the obtained results, it was ended that there was an increase of the urban islands of heat in 2008, mainly in the located neighborhoods in the areas of the Avenue Augusto Montenegro and Highway Arthur Bernardes, and reduction of the islands of coolness in several parts of the continental area of Belem, due to the absence of the vegetable covering, in relation to the year of 1997. It was also possible to identify that in the study area, there was a reduction of the existent vegetable covering in 2008 in comparison with 1997, reduction that that happened mainly in the area that is besides to 1st Patrimonial League of the municipal district of Belem, in the axis understood between the Avenue Augusto Montenegro and the Highway Arthur Bernardes, enlarging the urban area and the increase of the temperature, that it favored the expansion of islands of heat.

The study site is situated in the Cretaceous Bragança-Viseu coastal basin. The holocenic evolution of this area is marked by muddy progradation over a submerging coast, where is developed one of the most mangrove system of the world, with almost 6,000 km2. This research has showed that orbital remote sensing data can provide excellent geologic and coastal land use information. The SAR RADARSAT-1 imageries represent a powerful tool to understand the coastal processes in the wet tropical environments, mainly in the mangrove coasts. This fact is related to microwave radiation can be interpreted for Amazon coastal zone mapping and monitoring, because SAR image constitutes in the unique source of data with all-weather remote sensing capability, in response to difficulty to get optical images in the Amazon, due to all-time cloud cover. Landsat TM imageries are excellent data sources to integration with RADARSAT-1. They present a good performance in coastal environments discrimination. The remote sensing data integration allow a synoptic view of the area and provide geobotanic (relation between coastal environment and vegetation) and multitemporal information. In addition to integrated data, geographic information system (GIS) combines different data sets and simultaneously interprets the spatial and temporal relationship between various coastal environments. This way, GIS allows for a more comprehensive, accurate and easier interpretation of a geomorphologic mapping under an organizational philosophy to control data towards use the information to coastal zone management. The application of remote sensing data in the tropical coastal studies was used in different approaches. In relation to spatial and temporal variability of the shoreline, this study has revealed that during the Holocene, the coastal plain is marked by a muddy progradation. However, from the analysis of the remote sensing images were possible investigate the shoreline variability under long (1972-1998) and short (1985-1988, 1988-1990, 1990-1991) term, which is characterized by shoreline retreat, probably due to climatic changes, such as El-Niño and La-Niña events. These climatic events control the rainfall along the coastal zone, where severe erosional period (1985- 1988) are coupled with high precipitation rate (> 4,000 mm/yr.). From the point of view of the spatial analysis of the coastal changes, the mangroves constitutes one of the most environments to be analyzed by remote sensing images, as in the electro-optical spectrum due to their high reflectance in the infrared, as in the microwave due to their rough surface responsible for high backscattering. Therefore, mangroves have showed to be an excellent geologic indicator to detect and to quantify short and long-term morphological coastal changes. To conclude, remote sensing data integration, GIS and auxiliary fieldwork data present a fundamental role to the integrated coastal zone management, environmental risk assessment, local characterization of the study sites, base maps upgrading and information dissemination for public consultation, which are all significant factors in this decision-making process.

Caracterização dos padrões morfodinâmicos em cristas de praias na costa amazônica

Knowledge of beach environments requires an integrated morphodynamic approach using different spatio-temporal scales, in order to understand the role of coastal and marine processes in modifying beach morphology. There are some important peculiarities about these processes on the beaches of the Amazon region, such as the large hydro-sedimentary discharge from the estuaries, high rainfall rates and the high amplitude and intensity of the tidal currents, which shape the often complex beach systems, such as beach ridges. The objective of this research was to analyze the morphological dynamics of a beach ridge segment located north of the mouth of the Amazon River, in Goiabal (city of Calçoene), in the coastal ocean sector of the state of Amapá.The hypothesis is that the morphological changes in the segment of beach crest under study are influenced by the hydrosedimentary dynamics of the Amazon River. The research methodology was based on three stages: (1) determining the morphology of beach ridges and their changes (beach profile variation, sedimentary deposits and beach classification); (2) analysis of morphosedimentary processes (physical coastal agents such as tides, waves and currents, and sediment supply such as sediment plumes; (3) data integration (correlation between the processes analyzed in stage one and two). The results indicate significant average variations in the morphosedimentation of the Goiabal beach ridge system, with seasonal migration (~24 to ~42 meters) towards the mainland. Erosion and deposition on the ridges and subsequent channels averaged less than 0.30 m along the beach profiles during the seasonal cycle. The oceanographic parameters indicate an average wave height of 0.25 m and an average tidal range of 5 m. Coastal currents are directed west-southwest and there is a predominance of ebb tide currents during the rainy season. The sediment plume of the Amazon River was closer to the study area during the rainy season (~15 to 25 km), with a predominance of ebb tide currents. Thus, it can be concluded that the segment of beach crest studied has a greater influence from the Amazon River sediment plume during the rainy season, intensifying the deposition of fine sediments. The displacement of beach ridges and the supply of sediment have a strong relationship with tidal dynamics in the region.

Costa de manguezais de macromaré da Amazônia: cenários morfológicos, mapeamento e quantificação de áreas usando dados de sensores remotos
(2005-12) SOUZA FILHO, Pedro Walfir Martins e

Oil palm cultivation is a spatial process fostered by actions between the State and the business sector, enabling the expansion of oil palm cultivation in the Amazon. As a research focus, we argue that oil palm cultivation emerges as a central activity in monoculture expansion in the Amazon, bringing a series of socio-environmental damages, especially in the Tomé-Açu Microrregion (MRTA). The research consists of a multifaceted analysis, from the historical context and set of laws that facilitated the expansion of oil palm plantations, to the application of advanced geoprocessing techniques and remote sensing to detect and understand changes in land cover and land use. Thus, the general objective is to understand the expansion of oil palm cultivation as a source of socio-environmental damages in the Tomé-Açu Microrregion, PA. The chapters of this dissertation were written in the format of scientific articles, corresponding to chapters 2, 3, and 4. The study area is the Tomé-Açu Microrregion, in northeastern Pará, and we used the Arauaí settlement and the Jambuaçu quilombola territory as clipped portions from the study area. The methodology consisted of literature review, supervised classification of satellite images, and field visits to communities impacted by oil palm cultivation. We perceive the persistence of the discourse promising economic and social integration of rural areas adapted to oil palm cultivation. There is no room for discussion of alternative proposals for rural economic integration, nor is the peasant way of life considered in the conception of integration projects. Geoprocessing techniques proved to be efficient in identifying oil palm plantations and detecting deforestation associated with the expansion of oil palm monocultures. Between 1988 and 2023, 32,322 hectares of forests (primary and secondary) were converted into oil palm plantations in the MRTA. Family farmers associated with the production chain are irreversibly linked to oil palm cultivation. Residents of Jambuaçu suffer from pressure on the territory caused by industrial oil palm cultivation.
