The System and Substation Operators are a fundamental component, both for society and for electric power companies in regards to the correct operation of electric power systems. In order for them to perform their duties satisfactorily, they must undergo constant refresher trainings and operation simulation of such systems, through the operation simulators. The task proposed here will be to present an operation maneuvers simulator, which can be used both for system operators, such as installation, which contains instructions for restoring maneuvers when transmission lines disorders occurs, transformers, equipments for compensation of reactive power and installation sectorals, such as the recovery when acting for breaker differential protection and circuit breaker failure. The latter two being repeatedly reasons of anxiety and difficulties of recovery for demanding high degree of operational knowledge. The pilot substation utilized to create the simulator as well as the creation of recovery maneuvers instruction is the Substation Guama, from the company Eletrobras Eletronorte.

SwImax: um simulador em realidade virtual para auxiliar o ensino do padrão WiMAX

The IEEE 802.16 standard, also known as WiMAX, is a network technology for broadband wireless metropolitan areas, used as an alternative for streaming Internet signal to regions that do not have wired network infrastructure. Currently, the teaching of technology in the classroom is only theoretical, which hinders students understanding to certain features of WiMAX. Accordingly, this work discusses the design development of a virtual reality simulator, called SwImax, facing the aid teaching of IEEE 802.16. Thus, SwImax simulates some features of the functioning of this pattern, which are: operating frequency bands, coverage area, handover procedure, non-line of sight transmission, among others. The dissertation presents the related work that influenced the development of the project as well as a summary on the IEEE 802.16 standard. The text also presents the tools used in the development and implementation of SwImax simulator. At the end of development, the software was subject to an assessment of the users, so that the results are also discussed in this dissertation.
