Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) Escravos no purgatório: o leprosário do Tucunduba (Pará, século XIX)(Casa de Oswaldo Cruz, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, 2012-12) HENRIQUE, Márcio CoutoThe article analyzes the experience of the slaves interned at the Tucunduba Leprosarium in Belém, state of Pará during the nineteenth century. The slaves were freed once they showed the marks of their leprosy, and expectations were that they would submit to the segregation policy meant to keep them from contact with the rest of the population. The documentation produced by Santa Casa de Misericórdia hospital in Pará and by the province's political authorities reveals the strategies the slaves devised in response to this policy; they used their numerical predominance at the leprosarium to create a network of solidarity that allowed them to recreate their lives and stand in opposition to the type of nation that the era's hygienist theories envisioned.Tese Acesso aberto (Open Access) Leis, mortes e fugas: o processo de abolição da escravidão e a entrada dos imigrantes no Piauí (1872 – 1887)(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2022-08-19) SILVA, Rodrigo Caetano; BEZERRA NETO, José Maia; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7000143949499821the objective of this dissertation is to defend the idea the there were several contributing factors in the process of decrease of the slave population in Piaui' province. I addition, I propose that the entry in Piaui' of immigrants trying to evade the drought contributed to the process of transition of the slave labor into the labor provided by free persons. Among the factors that contributed to the decrease of the slave population, I point out: the Law of the Free Womb and the Law of the Sexagenarians. When analyzing these two laws I focused mainly on the creation of the Fundo Emancipador (Freedom Fund), on the criteria used to free slaves using that fund, and how this mechanism functioned. The process of decrease of the slave population also included: deaths and escapes. The spatial framework for the research is the province of Piaui', where until today there is a lack of scientific verification about the process of decrease of slaves and freedom of slaves. The chronological framework encompasses the period between 1872 to 1887. Such framework is justified because it was in this period of the nineteenth century that the struggle against slavery intensified in Piaui'. With the selection of this period of time, some questions became pertinent and gave impetus to the research: Was the decrease of slaves in Piaui' inserted in the same process on a national context? In this process of decrease, were the slaves aware of what was happening? Was there a sui generis characteristic in the process of aboliton of slavery in Piaui'? The theoretical basis for the text was established in the arguments by the British historian E. P. Thompson, who proposes a dialogue among the different agents reacting to actions existing in the environment.Artigo de Periódico Acesso aberto (Open Access) O tráfico de africanos na Amazônia colonial: abordagens historiográficas(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-06) SILVA, Marley Antonia Silva daThis paper discusses the perception of historiography about the tra" cking of enslaved Africans to the Grand Para and Rio Negro. From the productions analyzed was evident in some studies that the African presence was in second place, on the grounds that the captaincy (Grão-Pará) o# ered restrictive conditions to the entry of the captive black. Among the recurring elements impeding the work is, the poverty of the inhabitants, abundance of skilled indigenous manpower, the inconsistency of agrarian enterprises (no plantation) and the “inability of tra" cking”. However, local culture is evident in the strong presence of African elements, hence the need for scholars seeking to justify the reasons that made possible the entry of these in the region. Said the native indolence, the con ict between religious and residents because the domain of the latter, the debate on the legitimacy of slavery and enslavement of indigenous epidemics, the Brazilian experience, the di" culties of boarding, the resistance of the Gentile, the indigenous law among others, are reasons that help to explain and understand the African presence in the Amazon Colonial . New approaches, there is already clear that one can’t think the African presence in the Amazon Colonial in a strictly economic perspective, the region and has had speci cities, think African slavery in the region implies launching new looks about the same.
