Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Detecção sorológica e molecular de Anaplasma marginale em búfalos na Ilha de Marajó, Pará(2014-01) SILVA, Jenevaldo Barbosa da; LOPES, Cinthia Távora de Albuquerque; SOUSA, Melina Garcia Saraiva de; GIBSON, André Felipe Bagarrão; VINHOTE, Wagner Marcelo de Souza; FONSECA, Adivaldo Henrique da; ARAÚJO, Flábio Ribeiro de; BARBOSA NETO, José DiomedesThe aim of the study was to test the molecular and serological prevalence of Anaplasma marginale in water buffaloes of the Marajó Island, State of Pará, Brazil. For serologic research were randomly selected 800 buffaloes and for molecular research 50 of these animals were randomly chosen. To quantify the serological prevalence we used the indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (iELISA) with total antigen containing proteins outer surface. To quantify the prevalence molecular was used the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) involving gene amplification fragment larger surface protein 5 (MSP5). The prevalence of positive animals in iELISA was 25% (200/800). In the PCR we detected the presence of A. marginale in 2% (1/50) of animals. Although only one animal was positive in PCR, we found that it was negative in ELISA. The presence of the agent, even in low prevalence, shows that buffaloes can act as an important reservoir for transmission of the pathogen to cattle in northern Brazil.Item Acesso aberto (Open Access) Equine infectious anemia on Marajo Island at the mouth of the Amazon river(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2015-12) FREITAS, Nayra Fernanda de Queiroz Ramos; OLIVEIRA, Carlos Magno Chaves; LEITE, Rômulo Cerqueira; REIS, Jenner Karlisson Pimenta dos; OLIVEIRA, Fernanda Gonçalves de; BOMJARDIM, Henrique dos Anjos; SALVARANI, Felipe Masiero; BARBOSA NETO, José DiomedesEquine infectious anemia (EIA) is a transmissible and incurable disease caused by a lentivirus, the equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV). There are no reports in the literature of this infection in Equidae on Marajo Island. The objective of this study was to diagnose the disease in the municipalities of Cachoeira do Arari, Salvaterra, Santa Cruz do Arari and Soure, on Marajó Island, state of Pará, Brazil. For serological survey samples were collected from 294 horses, over 5-month-old, males and females of puruca and marajoara breeds and from some half-breeds, which were tested by immunodiffusion in Agar gel (AGID). A prevalence of 46.26% (136/294) positive cases was found. EIA is considered endemic in the municipalities studied, due to the ecology of the region with a high numbered population of bloodsucking insect vectors and the absence of official measures for the control of the disease.
