Like other activities, Journalism also needed to adapt to the so-called “new normal” with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic. WhatsApp - which was already widely used by TV stations in Belém (PA) - became even more strategic for the production of television news after the start of the health crisis. Producers began to accumulate functions and use the app even more in information traffic and in contact with the public, characters, specialists and official sources. In view of this, the purpose of this research was to investigate what are the procedures adopted by these professionals to filter and verify the information that reaches the newsrooms, through WhatsApp, after March 2020, the month in which Pará registered the first case of Covid-19 and the firsts restrictive measures were implemented in the State. This work also proposes to indicate the profile of the professionals who are part of the journalistic production staff of the TV stations in the capital of Pará, including gender, age group and time of profession, in addition to mapping the perception of these professionals about the fight against disinformation, the challenges of producing and the defense of Journalism when the press is suffering so many social and institutional attacks. The research is supported by the concepts of Information Disorder (WARDLE and DERAKHSHAN, 2017), Participatory Culture (JENKINS, 2009), Interactivity (LEMOS, 1997), among others. To achieve the objectives of this study, a qualitative approach methodology was adopted and online interaction application techniques were used, which included 28 professionals from six stations in Belém, in addition to semi-structured interviews and participant observation. The survey results indicate that 100% of those who use WhatsApp do it in their work routine and most of them feel responsible for combating misinformation, although some were in doubt whether they have already aired a content without proper investigation. The most common checking procedures among producers are: asking the complainant for more information, researching the matter on the internet and asking official sources for a position. As for the profile of professionals, the study shows that the production staff of the stations is formed, mostly, by young professionals with little career time. The survey also pointed out that professionals face conflicts in carrying out their work, mainly due to the accumulation of functions and the precariousness of the profession.

(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2021-10-25) OLIVEIRA, Regina Mares de Souza; FÜLBER, Heleno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5018616409948511; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7327-9960
The advances in digital technologies and the widespread use of smartphones have greatly changed the way people communicate, mainly through social platforms. At the same time, the sharp growth of the elderly population raises the question of the relationship of the elderly and the new digital media, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic that has conditioned social isolation. This research aims to investigate the communicability of the interaction of elderly users with the WhatsApp application. Methodologically, it began with a systematic review of the literature, later, a case study was conducted with a group of 10 elderly, applied the Communicability Evaluation Method of Semiotic Engineering with the objective of knowing and explaining the communicative problems of use and relating them to the characteristics of the elderly. The results indicated interaction problems related to the attribution of meaning, perception, recognition of icons; indicated the most frequent communicability ruptures; indicated low vision as the most common change of aging; presented reports of the experiences of use of the elderly and also regarding the satisfaction and classification of the service.

This research aimed at creating a product to support the digital pedagogical practice of English teachers on WhatsApp application by analyzing data from a work that it is called “English in the Palm of Hand” project which was designed for 25 students of the English language teaching undergraduate program at the Federal University of Pará on WhatsApp application and validating the product by using an Expert Panel composed of three English teachers and three researchers from the fields of language learning and teaching, mobile learning and Information Digital Communication Technologies and Education. The product “English in the Palm of Hand: a guide to support the digital teaching practices on WhatsApp application” provides guidance, three activities and digital materials for English teachers(GIFs, images, videos and PowerPoint Presentation). This study is grounded on theoretical discussions regarding the mobile learning concept (SACCOL; SCHLEMMER; BARBOSA, 2010; BRAGA, 2017, among others), its advantages and limitations (SACCOL; SCHLEMMER; BARBOSA, 2010; SILVA; ROCHA, 2017, to mention a few), mobile learning as a tool on teacher education (BARAN, 2014, among others), the history, definition and features of the WhatsApp application, (LOPES; VAS, 2016, to mention a few), as well as how language is used on application (MARTINS; BATISTA, 2005; MAGNABOSCO, 2009, among others) and finally, the possibilities and limitations of using WhatsApp as a pedagogical tool (OLIVEIRA et al., 2014, to mention a few). This research is considered a qualitative case study (FONSECA, 2002; MARTINS, 2006; DÖRNYEI, 2007).The research instruments were: the students’ interaction records on application, a semi-structured individual interview and the researcher’s field notes. The results point out the relevance of the project actions and activities because they involved aspects of the students' reality and interest, increased the students’ opportunities to use the language, built affective bonds among them, encouraged their reflection and autonomy in their own learning process, as well as presented the challenges and technological, technical, and pedagogical practice limitations related to the methodology in the digital environment. The results of the product validation point out the need of some adjustments related to the text review and correction .The guide was considered relevant to support and inspire English teachers who work in different contexts to apply, think and rethink other activities besides the ones proposed on the guide.

IZAP: redesign do aplicativo WhatsApp para o público idoso
(Universidade Federal do Pará, 2025-04-17) MIRANDA, Samara da Rocha; MERLIN, Bruno; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7336467549495208; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7327-9960
With the increase in life expectancy and the advancement of technology, the elderly public's access to the internet grows together as a means of entering the digital world, a movement accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the conditions inherent to age, such as memory loss, low vision and reduced motor capacity that interfere with learning to use technologies, causing the need to adapt existing technologies in the market. Based on previous studies that analyzed the communicability of WhatsApp from the perspective of the elderly public, this work proposes a medium fidelity prototype of WhatsApp without the need for a final application built by the Figma tool to have the functionalities that allow simulate the necessary elements to evaluate the communicability between the user and the designee based on the Communicability Assessment Method - MAC of Semiotic Engineering to compare the results of the previous work done with the native application and the prototype.
