The research proposes to analyze how the conservative discourse was disseminated by the Pará press, represented by the newspapers ―Folha do Norte‖, ―O Estado do Pará‖ and ―A Palavra‖, in relation to the right of women to vote. These journals played a key role in disseminating and legitimizing conservative ideas that restricted women's political participation. At the same time, the research seeks to understand how suffragette women used these same communication vehicles for joint strategies of awareness and engagement, in order to make known their aspirations for political and social equality. They took advantage of these spaces to challenge traditional conceptions that limited their role in society and claimed their right to full citizenship. The chosen spatial cut is the city of Belém do Pará, which will serve as a representative example of the Pará context. The chronological outline of the research begins in 1919, from the elaboration of the bill of Senator Justo Chermont, which proposed the extension of the right to vote to women. Through this study, we seek to understand both the resistance faced by suffragettes from Pará on their path towards equal rights, as well as the coping and overcoming strategies adopted by them. The study will contribute to the understanding of the history of feminist struggles in Pará, expanding our knowledge about the process of winning the right to vote for women.
