It is a quantitative descriptive research developed with 488 employees of federal institutions of education. One questionnaire was applied using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, the Organizational Citizenship Scale for Knowledge Workers, and the Generic Job Satisfaction Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistical techniques and structural equation modeling. It was found that job satisfaction is positively influenced by OC practices with emphasis on civic virtue and without effects on voice. Tests indicated a positive and significant correlation between job satisfaction and work engagement. This study differs from the others by exploring organizational elements insufficiently studied in the Brazilian civil context and broadens the discussion on the factors that can lead civil officers to work with greater satisfaction and engagement, bringing theoretical contributions and practical implications for public managers and organizational studies.
