Metaficção historiográfica em "Jangada de Pedra"

Abstract

This study focuses on the approach of the Saramago's novel: The Stone Raft. It analyzes the relationship between history and fiction presented in the writing. In the novel occurs a geographical detachment of the iberian peninsula from the remaining european continent. Starting from this fictional fact, the portuguese writer sets up a novel that anticipates the European economic chaos, taxed by the neoliberal politics, by joining the European Common Market today. Portugal and Spain sail adrift without identifying themselves with the cultural, social or economical identity of the continent. The foundation of the relationship between history and literature in the post-modern novel, in this analysis, is guided by the concepts of Linda Hutcheon .
