The research stems from the observation that, despite the presence of Black women candidates in these elections, the ballot results for Executive and Legislative positions raise concerns that justify an in-depth academic investigation. The central hypothesis suggests that the intersection of gender (sexism), race (racism), and social condition (classism) are crucial factors contributing to this scenario. These factors are examined through the concept of “controlling images” discussed by Collins (2019) and Gonzalez (1984), which explores how the behavior of these women is shaped by society. The methodology includes analyzing data provided by the Electoral Justice regarding the situation of Black women in Brazil and in Igarapé-Miri/PA, as well as responses to questionnaires from the Marielle Franco Institute concerning political violence in the 2020 elections. With this data, the research aims to discuss the identified problem and the proposed hypothesis, concluding with reflections on the party environment and electoral campaigns, and suggesting directions to mitigate the adverse effects on Black women's candidacies from the perspective of controlling images.
