Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18070This study evaluates, through computational modeling, the structural performance of the Real Class building, located in Belém, Pará, Brazil, which collapsed during the construction phase in January 2011. The building consisted of 35 stories and reached a height of 104.74 m, with a reinforced concrete structure supported on deep foundations. The objective was to separately evaluate the effects of masonry panels and soil–structure interaction (SSI) on the structural analysis results of the building, verify column safety at the stage in which the failure occurred, and compare the material quantities from the original design with those from an alternative structural conception sized in accordance with the valid codes at the time of the project’s development. The masonry walls exhibited little influence on the global structural response. In contrast, SSI proved to be decisive, leading to redistribution of foundation loads, increased global flexibility of the structure, and intensification of global second-order effects, particularly in the direction of lower stiffness. Column safety verification indicated generalized underdesign, with critical loading combinations dominated by wind action.
