Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18302The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries marked a period of international migration to the Amazon region and, more specifically, to the state of Pará. Favored by the demographic shifts occurring in Europe as a result of the Industrial Revolution, thousands of individuals migrated to Pará, drawn by immigration-incentive policies crafted by the state government, including promotional campaigns, legislation, and the provision of free transportation and services for those relocating to the agricultural colonies established in northeastern Pará. This research aims to examine the role of this Spanish population in the production of space in the former Benjamin Constant colony, as well as to trace their subsequent destinations and dispersion across Pará, Brazil, and abroad. Through the analysis of historical documents, interviews, and fieldwork, the study reveals the diverse forms of socio-spatial integration experienced by this population, demonstrating how they became socially embedded and participated as active agents in shaping both the collective and individual life of the former colony and of Bragança more broadly.
