Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18094This study has analyzed the relationship between the personality of parents, parenting styles adopted by them and their influence on the personality of their children and their prospects, with the aim of understanding how the parents‟ personalities influence the type of parenting style adopted by them and the personality development of their adolescent children and their prospects. This is a cross-sectional study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, carried out with a sample of 110 participants, 55 adolescents between the ages of 15 and 17, duly enrolled in the Escola de Aplicação da UFPA (EAUFPA) and one of their parents, father or mother, totaling 55, all residents of Belém do Pará. Data collection took place in a high school classroom at EAUFPA, made available for this research. A semi-structured interview script and two instruments were used, the Parenting Styles Inventory (PSI) and the Factorial Personality Battery (PFB), both applied to the adolescents and one of their parents. The results analysis was based on theories that discuss parenting styles and adolescent development from an interactionist perspective. The results show that parenting styles correlate positively and negatively with the personality traits analyzed and directly influence the construction of adolescents' future perspectives, whether through the emotional and moral support offered or through the absence or perception of controlling practices. The importance of implementing projects in schools that include guidance and improvement of parents regarding the parenting practices used and their implications for the development of adolescents' personalities as well as their professional prospects is emphasized. In light of this need, two instructional materials will be produced, one for parents and the other for teenagers.
