Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/7704This paper presents the results drawn from the observation of the festivities dedicated to St. Benedict in the neighborhood of Jurunas, in the city of Belém of Pará, Brazil. The objective of this study is to understand the process of elaboration of symbols in the context of these celebrations, considering them as a product and reflection of mixtures produced the hybrid aspect of Brazilian culture, from the relationship between Catholicism and popular culture. The paper considers these festivities, as a sign representative of the Jurunas neighborhood's identity as a between-place producer of tensions, however, are mitigated by the context in which they perform carnivalized celebrations.
