Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18437This work presents a study about breeding behaviour of the Orange-winged Amazon Amazona amazonica in Santa Bárbara do Pará, and about vocal dialects in individuals from nine populations: seven from Pará state, one from Tocantins and one from Paraíba. Through observations concerning its reproduction we verified that A. amazonica’s breeding season is from August to February, when food is abundant for adults and nestlings. Concerning the behaviour in nest area, parrots are cryptic, remaining in silence or emitting low-amplitude vocalizations when near the nest. Moreover, we registered the emission of 12 vocalizations associated with diverse contexts, and different postures and gestures displayed during visual communication. Such strategies may have been developed to prevent the high index of natural and human predation. Furthermore, we found audible and structural differences in contact calls of nine populations studied, and these changes from population to population are not gradual, some next populations have more different calls in relation to populations that are more distant. Additionally, individuals from Salvaterra had presented greater vocal isolation, possibly because they are in an island.
