Acesso em:.https://repositorio.ufpa.br/handle/2011/18099This doctoral thesis scientifically investigates the relationship between society and nature in Marine´s Extractivist Reserve Mocapajuba, coast zone in the northeastern Pará. It was based on the problem between human pressure on nature and the guarantee of essential goods for survival over time. Thus, the central question was to determine whether the socio-environmental dynamics produced in the Conservation Unit are markers of happiness in the territory. Happiness occurs in the process of making daily decisions in continuous articulation with the ecological, cultural, political and economic dimensions. The concepts of territoriality and governance were articulated in order to reveal strategic movements for decision-making consistent with the local environmental reality, highlighting the ecological, cultural, political and economic dimensions. Based on theoretical contributions from complex thinking, the research outlined a methodological path aligned with the contributions of Environmental Geography, centered on the inseparability between humanity and nature. It used empirical instruments such as field research and participant observation, application of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires, bibliographical survey and composition of tables for analyzing results. In the end, some findings are suggested, such as the recognition of the environment as a complex system formed by ecological, cultural, political and economic dimensions, which act concomitantly in the composition of the territory; the necessary coherence in decision-making processes, from the individual to the collective sphere; the requirement to strengthen the educational process linked to local environmental knowledge as a condition for sustainability; happiness as a construct inherent to the territory; and geographic science as a pressing framework for better interpretation of complex reality.
