In this context, the present dissertation aims to analyze land use and vegetation cover changes in the municipality of Igarapé-Miri, in the state of Pará, through the Geoecology of Landscapes approach, seeking to understand the organization, functioning, and dynamics of local environmental systems. Methodologically, the study is based on the framework proposed by Rodriguez and Silva (2018), encompassing the stages of collection and systematization of secondary data, integrated analysis of the physical and anthropogenic components of the landscape, preparation of thematic land use and vegetation cover maps, and geoecological interpretation of landscape units. For the spatial analysis, geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques were employed, enabling the identification of the main land use patterns, with emphasis on floodplain vegetation areas, agro-extractive systems—particularly those associated with açaí production—and areas subjected to deforestation, livestock farming, and mining activities. The results indicate that the transformations observed in the landscape of Igarapé-Miri are associated with local socioeconomic dynamics over time, including the timber industry, the sugarcane production cycle, and açaí extractivism, as well as the expansion of productive activities and the natural conditions imposed by river dynamics through seasonal flooding and low-water periods. It is concluded that the geoecological approach proves to be effective for the integrated understanding of Amazonian landscapes, contributing to environmental planning and sustainable territorial management, particularly in floodplain areas.
