HPV is the main risk factor for developing the disease, though not enough to cause it, requiring other associated factors. This study aimed to delineate the epidemiological profile and assess the prevalence and subtypes of HPV in women with cervical cancer. To this was applied a form epidemiological and viral DNA detection and typing of subtypes 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 52, and 58 for PCR. Ninety-seven percent of the samples about cancer of the cervix were positive for HPV. The prevalence of subtype HPV 16 was 48.6%, HPV 58 subtype was 10.8%, HPV 52 subtype was 5.4% and subtypes of HPV 18 and HPV 33 was 2.7%. Women in general were married had first sexual intercourse after the age of 15, had low education.
